FletchI think it is incredible that AP have risen so much in the last couple of years. I’m not here to judge who can and can’t afford AP and what car they should be getting.
Seems as though there is a public outcry at Electricity, Gas and train fares amongst others going up and rightly so but Motability customers are expected to sit back and do nothing about the massive increase in prices. My Kuga cost £1749 in Q2 and is now £2200.
I feel sorry for anyone ordering at the moment. When will the price increases stop?

ajnI agree it’s very, very expensive..
If I stay on and don’t end up extending at the end of this one, (we don’t know how things will pan out in 2years)….I’ll go for the cheapest biggest thing on the scheme at the time, if however it a load of Chinese junk I don’t like I’ll go get my self a camper..

I agree. For those who are in the financial position to look elsewhere, the combination of rising AP’s and ever decreasing choice means that Motability is becoming less and less attractive. The sad fact is that the majority of Motability customers probably aren’t in a position to explore other options and are therefore trapped.
It’s easy to lose sight of the scale of these AP increases as we talk £ rather than percentages, but the AP on your Kuga has increased by 26% in a matter of months. I hadn’t realised until a few days ago that the X1 that we took delivery of a few months ago has gone up by £500, which is an 18% increase. We had contemplated extending our last lease but it would have been a huge mistake if we had. In just a matter of months since we ordered, costs have gone up, choice has gone down and lead times have got ridiculous – and that’s pretty much across the board.
November 5, 2021 at 8:39 am #168405Our XC40 has gone up £1200 this quarter. At the new AP price, we wouldn’t have chosen it .

JojoeSkoda Octavia DSG eTech 1L mild hybrid gone from £749 Q2 to £1749 Q4. Motability need to turn on the taps of £2 billion they have in reserve.
If you speak to Motability, they will say you can apply for a grant. But we are not all entitled to a grant. This will probably be our last Motability car if AP’s don’t come down.

Lets Get OrganisedIt’s amazing how much the prices have gone up but if the chief executive is on over a million with all the bonuses and Motability made 150 million profit last year then they have no choice because someone has to pay for all those nice perks and swanky offices and now the Scottish government is setting it up its own version so it must be a profitable business flogging leases to the disabled.
Its a long read but you only get the figures at the end you can also find out that notability has its own separate business at disposing of the lease cars and it should be more transparent about what they offer us the car at the end of the lease and what it actually goes for
its a very interesting read and as stakeholders 650,000 of us we should get together and get more organised to start to pressure on Motability to prioritize us as customers as we are the sole reason why they even exist.
please feel free to pass this on to as many Motability customers as possible

PaulWhen you get a quote to buy from motorbility after your lease, they wont budge on what they want .I offered £2k less than wanted and refused,it went to auction and they got £1600 less than my offer.Recently was told they prefer to goto auction than sell to us , because if they do sell to us thats a loss of a new lease customer.
.
November 5, 2021 at 10:51 am #168425Also it’s advantageous to manufacturers to supply Motability knowing that after three years the cars go back into the trade to keep the main dealers supplied with stock.

Spot on. I always ask for a price at the end of each lease out of curiosity and it’s always a few grand more than the car is worth. People who are tempted to buy ‘because they know the car’ often forget that the price being asked by dealers is always negotiable and furthermore it will come with a warranty – unlike any car you buy from Motability. As with financial products, it’s fair to say with cars that ‘past performance is no guarantee of future success’. As with white goods, it’s often as though manufacturers programme faults to occur during the year after the warranty ends!

November 5, 2021 at 12:28 pm #168437My example, I paid just over 1k for my current vehicle 2 years ago, you would 4k AP today.

If the demand for second hand petrol and diesels continues to decline over the next 5 years we are likely to see higher AP´s to offset the lower residuals.

That’s spot on, just hope Motability reflect this is the AP of Electric’s, as they seem to be holding their value really well.
November 5, 2021 at 2:18 pm #168447The only way buying your own car will work is if Motability go back to HP that was how it used to be once lease came to an end you could buy using your allowance on Hp your happy Motability still make interest and profit. Then chances are when your car is 6 years old after buying you go back for a new lease everyone wins. Unfortunately there would never have been a better time with the stock shortage so I am guessing if they don’t go back now they never will

It was £795 in quarter 1 this year so an increase of 475%, shocking.

KwikfitmanOh the illusion of choice now let me see those nice people at the banks are nice friends with the people that make cars and they are so nice that they and the government have got together and had really nice jelly and after that they all got together and decided that those disabked folk could do with some help so they invented the Motability charity to help them disabked folk with their finance, oops no change the name before they find out what we are up to

washing powder adverts over timeEarly years ” what you want is a big box of powder it will last a long time and do lots of washes
No you don’t want that old box of powder what you want is liquid because that old powder will clog up your machine liquid is the future
No you don’t want that liquid you want that old powder but this time we have squeezed it into a hard block its called a tablet but not the kind you would want to swallow that will come later
No you want the liquid in a bright colour like a sweet that your child will swallow thats what you want
No use the same analogy for cars
You want petrol
No you want diesel
No that diesel that we told you we now found out its bad
You want petrol
No you don’t
You want electricity
Guess what you wanted Hydrogen all along
Silly you

KwikfitmanThe ilussion of choice yes you do have a choice if you have deep pockets so the vale of choice is there but few can afford it so shut up and put up or we can get ourselves organised and have a go back by voting 630,0000 thats quite a big army at £250 a month and we can choose where to spend our money and Motability or what can call the incumbent supplier need to wake up a bit and see the completion
