We are looking to get a microchip operated one to fit through a double glazed door panel. There seem to be three makes, all around the same price:. Sureflap, Petsafe and Cat Mate (now called Closer Pets).
Anyone any experience of these things? I’d welcome any thoughts..

ajnNot what sprung to mind Ww with the title, but no cat here so no info to share, however a reply is always welcome I guess, in the time you’ve had since asking, any updates ???
October 27, 2022 at 9:51 am #199217Have you looked at the reviews and do any come out on top.
October 27, 2022 at 11:38 am #199229Thanks ajn. I am amazed at the lack of interest in cat flaps on this forum. Clearly some effort should be expended to raise awareness of this important subject.
Kezo, their seem to be no direct comparisons but I looked at the two most popular ones in the local pet shop and bought the one which appeared to be best quality which was also the cheapest, which if anyone cares is the Closer Pets / Catmate one. Now in the process of fitting it through the conservatory wall.
October 27, 2022 at 1:26 pm #199237Never really been a cat lover to be honest. I see my neighbours cat daily when it comes to shit in my garden, which I then have to tell my neighbour to come and clean it up on a daily occurance.
Regards a microchip flap, I would say is a good idea from an owners point of view as it will hopefully keep other cats and unwants pests out. FWIW mate the closer pets one had a better review score of 4.4/5 than the others when i did a quick search on Amazon.
My dog got killed because of a cat when I was a young lad of 7, it may sound silly now but I still have that thought in my head and probably the reason why I’m not a lover at all of cats sorry.

ajnSlightly off topic, I used to have a neighbour who’s cat ran up the wall on to a low roof, then up the house wall to the bedroom window ledge, then jump to the bathroom window ledge, then in through the small bath room window…
All done at a steady pace and made to look so easy..

October 27, 2022 at 3:42 pm #199250no not a fan,ive built a bunch of raised beds and i am surrounded by neighbours who all have cats. they seem to think i built the raised beds as their personal toilets. ive tried every reppellant going, told the neighbours i am going to get a shotgun or a bunch of claymores, not the swords either.

You can get a cat spike mat/prickle strip for your raised beds mitch, but you shouldn’t be the one having to sort the issue .

ajnGood idea the micro chip sensor, otherwise all sorts of riff raff moggies will be in there scoffing food, marking territory, be like a feline orgy in the cat basket/bed..

BertyI have the Sureflap and its worked flawlessly for 6 years.
Interestinlgy Kezo…if you r dog was run over by a car would you hate cars?
I dont understand people who hate it when cats crap in their gardens, the cat is fertilising your garden for free. Some people cant think logically.
I had a Labrador once many years ago and off lead he would mop up any cat turds in the neighbourhood. He was a nutter of a dog.

ajnI’ve never smoothed or picked up a cat/kitten in my life even as a kid, as far I remember, wouldn’t say I hate them, I just leave them be, I’ve had a few dogs/pups/litters in my time though…
Also I think for some reason cats avoid me which is good for me and them..
I tend to stop them in their tracks, weird

If the cat hadn’t been there the dog wouldn’t have got run over regardless which was to blame.
How about those who have small children its not nice for neighbours cat to choose your garden to sh!t in. Those that have gone through great lenghs to get their garden to look nice such as @mitch, its also not nice to smell or see sh!t or p!ss lol
October 28, 2022 at 2:41 pm #199326Cats know who their friends are. Apart from our own one, two other cats are regularly in our garden. Very rarely is there an evidence of their toilet habits. Unlike damn foxes!

More to the point @Wigwam have you fitted the flap?
October 28, 2022 at 4:28 pm #199335@kezo, I’ve cut through the inner leaf of the cavity wall and marked out the outside opening. I will tackle that tomorrow, weather permitting. So I should have it working and all made good this weekend. I may have to make him a little ramp (should that be a catwalk?) on the outside…

ajnI do t get the cat problem, simply because they must hate me ?, no problem as I’ve no interest in liking, owning or discovering ?..
Wide birth cats from us both ????

LOL did you expect anything else 🙂
No doubt a few treats and experiments, it will become second nature to the cat, and you can then sit back with a cuppa and say money well spent.
October 30, 2022 at 8:19 pm #199437if there was a catflap in my door i would have a gillotine blade fitted lol messy but it might stop them ruining my garden.

ajnHave your cat mastered the newly fitted device yet Wigwam, guess the weather should speed up the process ?⛈?⬅️
November 5, 2022 at 8:33 am #199840He’s good at going out, ajn, but hasn’t mastered coming in yet! He just miaows at the kitchen door.
November 5, 2022 at 10:31 am #199854Give him time and he will master it 🙂

ajnCan the catflap door stay open so he/she/them ? can see through from either side Ww..
reminds me of when my dog wouldn’t push the opened gap door to get in, he’d stand there looking at us, in till a clap of thunder helped him master the situation… came in like a greyhound out of the traps
