BlackjJust spoke to motability about cancelling an order. They said dealer may charge a fee. Also it’s nothing they can do if charged. It is between me and dealer. Has anybody been charged a fee for cancellation and how much.

PaulDid you pay any deposit?
September 29, 2023 at 1:49 pm #235230I have never been charged but, thats not to say it doesn’t happen!
If you order factory option packs, more so option packs that don’t sell well, youre more likely to be charged, especially if you have paid up front for them as many dealer request.
September 29, 2023 at 1:53 pm #235232If you have parted with any money up front they may have you by the short and curlys. I have changed my mind twice and cancelled an order when something better came on and never been charged but both times they were standard builds with no extras.

BlackjI have not paid for any extras or paid a deposit. The reason I am cancelling, they told me 4 to 6 months delivery. I have made my own enquires and on this site and checked with other dealers. The estimated delivery time is 12 months.
September 29, 2023 at 3:00 pm #235246Then i would go and cancel and refuse to pay anything.

ColinIt depends on terms and conditions on order form when you placed order If you didn’t get this at point of order the onus is with dealer
Each motor group or dealer have terms and conditions when ordering but if outside of what you were told at order speak to sales manager As the ordering dealer has to cancel order on the system before new order can placed elsewhere
Hope this helps

They always say this mostly, I think, to deter people from doing it, but I’ve never known anyone to be charged a fee and I think we would have read about it on this forum if they had.
One or two people have had a bit of difficulty getting deposits or money they had paid for extras back, but have always been successful in the end as the dealers were just trying it on.
The key reason that you shouldn’t be charged a fee is because we never actually enter into a legally binding contract with a dealership. The contracts are between the dealer (or manufacturer) and Motability Operations and between us and Motability Operations. The latter is the only one that we can be held to and only comes into force when we enter the PIN as we accept the car.
In the scenario that you describe you can cancel and the dealer has no come back. Just be honest with them about the reason that you are cancelling so that they learn from it.
September 30, 2023 at 10:43 pm #235488With delivery so far in the future your order is still a twinkle in the factory’s eye.
More likely the dealer will be grateful for the build slot back 🙂

GeeNot so long ago Ford Redhill tried to retain my £500 deposit for a Puma ST Line.
I hadn’t signed anything, in fact the only contact that i had with the dealership was a phone call that i’d made to them informing them that i was planning on choosing the Puma ST Line as my next Motability vehicle.
The dealer asked me to pay a deposit of £500 so that they could start the ball rolling with the factory etc.
To cut a long story short a few days later i had a change of heart regarding the Puma so i called the dealer who informed me that they would not refund my £500.
Lots of telephone calls then followed (some less than polite)
Ford Redhill were not budging though insisting that i had lost my £500
I then attended the dealership in person and after being informed by the salesman that they were still keeping my £500 . . . all hell broke loose!
The dealership duty manager then very quickly arranged a full refund of my £500.
SUMMARY:
I was at fault for paying monies up front – a mistake that i will not make again.
They were at fault for trying their luck at keeping my £500 when there was no legally binding contract in place.
