Hello,
I am under 25 looking to get a motability car
Currently living in Reading.
I will use the car for running errands, work. I furthest I will travel is around 30 miles.
I considered a mokka-e but EVs have low range
I want a PHEV but they’re not available.
I want an SUV that’s spacious

Quick search on the Motability site gives all the choices and there are quite a few
Three petrol electric hybrid – Suzuki S Cross and Vitara and Toyota Yaris Cross. There is absolutely no doubt that you will have to compromise somewhere
You mention the Mokka E but that it does not have enough range but it will definitely do a lot more than the 30 mile journeys so could be worth considering if you have somewhere to charge it

January 28, 2024 at 6:35 pm #256571Which one do you recommend?
January 28, 2024 at 6:40 pm #256574Wow thats a tricky one and what you do will depend on whether there are dealerships near to where you live. I would say try and get to a dealership and as a minimum have a sit in them, unfortunately you will find some are not so helpful when they know its a Motability car.
I have an Audi A3 (under 25) and its an amazing vehicle but with a fairly high advance payment!
January 28, 2024 at 6:55 pm #256576yeah but which car is the best out of all of them
January 28, 2024 at 7:58 pm #256586If the most you’re going to travel is around 30 miles, then I’d say an electric vehicle would be ideal.
It would never have worked back when I was doing lots of miles, but now I’m a ‘townie’ for 95% of the time, it’ll work just fine.
I was looking at the Mokka, but had to discount it as I need my wheelchair with me unless I’m going to the gym and can park right outside.
I’d go and take a look around a few dealerships as recommended above, and then you can sit in some cars to see which ones take your fancy.
As you can see from the ID.4 thread, best is in the eye of the beholder. One man’s trash, is another man’s treasure 🙂
January 28, 2024 at 8:04 pm #256587It also very much depends on your disabilities!
Do you need room for a wheelchair, hoist or other adaptions as that could determine your choice?

January 28, 2024 at 8:07 pm #256590Which one do you recommend the most?
January 28, 2024 at 8:15 pm #256593Thats a million and one question mate! Would you prefer spoty looks?
January 28, 2024 at 8:17 pm #256596An attractive looking car would be nice.
But not crap
January 28, 2024 at 8:21 pm #256598Joint first, although I’d probably favour the Kamiq as its slightly bigger. Both VW group cars
Kamiq
Arona
January 28, 2024 at 8:24 pm #256599Joint second, I’d prefer the ZS 🙂
January 28, 2024 at 8:35 pm #256600My personal opinion is the Hyundai Kona Advance – the new one looks stunning!
January 28, 2024 at 9:15 pm #256603Yep, having looked at the Kona there’s a huge amount of car for the AP and with electric versions available I’d be going for one of those.
Electric cars are ideal for around town and short distance driving. Most complaints you hear about particle filters clogging up are because the car hasn’t gone far and hasn’t done the sort of driving that clears them out. Add that to the extra wear and tear the engine suffers over short trips, I’d be going electric. For what you’re doing it’ll make absolutely no sense to go any other direction, for me.

January 28, 2024 at 9:16 pm #256604Would you say the same for the old kona?
The old kona is the one being advertised on motab under 25r

The old Kona is a fantastic car, it’s one of the few cars that actually achieved it’s WLTP range and could exceed it. If i could have found on in budget it would be the car I’d be selling off rather than the ZS EV that I’m selling to get my Ioniq 5 scheme car.

January 28, 2024 at 9:24 pm #256607Why would you sell off the old Kona if it’s that fantastic?
January 28, 2024 at 9:25 pm #256608I didn’t think it was suitable for under 25’s but, it is after checjing the 1.0T. Shame the Ultimate doesn’t scrape in, as not a fan of the black arches 🙂
Decent car though, with proper buttons and the twin curved dispplays 🙂
January 28, 2024 at 9:27 pm #256609Why would you sell off the old Kona if it’s that fantastic?
Because the Ioniq 5 I’m getting is better. My needs have changed since I bought my current car, a bigger car, with more comfortable seats has become a much bigger requirement for me, the Kona is good, very good but the Ioniq 5 Namsan Edition is the top of the range, the next range up.

He means the selling off the ZS and also refering to the electric Kona, which I believe is for over 25’s

The 100kW 39 kWh Kona is available for U25s, it’s not the 150kW 64kWh bigger ranged version but zembbd is only traveling locally. It’s plenty for around town purposes.

Its smaller than the new one, which maybe a problem if zembbd is after something roomy. The interior maynot be zembbd cup of tea either out dated compared to the new one?
However as with any new car your best going to look at it in person 🙂
January 28, 2024 at 9:51 pm #256613I’m a bit suspicious that this is a wind-up… very strange questions being asked ?
And to say that the furthest you’ll travel is 30 miles but not an EV cause they have low range is just odd ?
Anyway, just in case it’s a serious question ?‍♂️ go onto the Motability Web site, search for all the cars suitable for under 25’s, write them down along with the prices, cross off the ones you’re not interested in, then start going around the garages to try them out… no one, here or anywhere else, can decide which is the best car for you. Good luck in your search ?

Come to think about it, you could be right, as didn’t twig on the EV bit!
