The home button on my old iPhone 8 has gone wrong and won’t work it has transferred to my screen so I can still use my phone thank goodness I’m on o2 sim only pay £8 a month will take it into O2 shop to see if they can repair it or I may have to have another phone ? I see they do refurbs as good as new they have an iPhone SE around £200 3 years old ! Is that a good phone ? I’ve always had iPhones

My niece and her husband are very well off they have always had iPhones he may say the Chinese phones are cheap rubbish and will only last 2 to 4 years it does say that online ! The phone at £150 at Argos looks fab and I’ve saw the YouTube videos All great reviews ! My phone has 85% battery health will tell him everything tonight Thankyou all for your help

Like anything it depends how well you look after it and how heavy a user you are. The main things that need replacing are batteries, charging port or buttons, In the case of Iphone a simple homebutton replacement requires an expensive logic board for it to function properly.
I still have my old Galaxy S6 I purchased in April 2015 when it first came out. It is as good as new and works perfectly, I even side loaded Andoid 12 on it in 2o21. I replaced the battery in November 2021.
With android you have to be careful at the budget, budget range they are not built to last as long. Thats why I suggested midrange or above (flagship). Apple don’t do budget phones You get the the midrange SE or flagship.
You will always get people who sit one side of the fence regardless whether that is with androis or iphone, Rolls Royce or Bentley. Neither is better than the other I repair both Apple and Android products and I can say I have not repaired more of one than the other.
I sit in the middle but favour Andoid because I think Iphone are crap (they aren’t) I just sit more over to the android side of the fence. Why – because Iphone won’t do what I need with arduino etc, They will both make and recieve calls and texts take good quality photo’s especially upper mid range and flagships, allow you to use social media/vide calling such as whatsapp and play the latest games.

I have a Huawei P30 that looks and operates like a new phone until my whim got the better of me and I got a redmi note 10 pro, both are midrange and will be used for working with. The Huawei is 3-4yrs old and I expect it to last at least double that unless I brick it!
I will only buy midrange phones even for arduino projects etc. My daily is a flagship oneplus that is as good as my mates iphone 13 and even has a better screen resolution than the 13.

Budget, budget Android phones are unkown teritory. They do the basics and get good reviews for doing so, but longetivity is anyones guess!

Personally Mike I’d go new, and learn how to navigate around the android..
I dont want to push Mike one way or the other for various reasons ajn. If Mike is told Android is Shite so be it, many know different including myself. Infact the latest data from Statista, in 2020, Android OS accounted for 53.24% of the mobile operating system market share in the UK, with iOS commanding 46.6%. …, Or his friend like to make a statement then again thats fine or whatever they come up with.
On a serious note Mike has got to feel comfortable switching platforms, understanding at his own pace his email address etc will work seamlessly across platforms and I will continue to answer any questions he may have on either.
I wouldn’t want Mike to have what I wouldn’t my self have only to come back to me and say its crap. I myself wouldn’t have an ultra low end budget £79 regardless of the rewviews, because thats where they get their bad rep from. Ive maintained the Redmi note 10 pro just under £250. Learning isn’t such a big deal because there isn’t am awful lot of difference between them, however each android manufacturer has its own skin over the android system, but there much the same in using.
He has got to have peace of mind regardless whether he lives with it for 3,4,5 or 8yrs. If I’m honest he may be better sticking with iphone soley because if he needed he can immediate help from his family, however once a phones set up regardless of which it is there’s really little help needed.
I initially suggested the Redmi note 10 pro soley because it was far cheaper brand new infact nearly 2 for the price of one so essentially yous get better longetivity than 1 iphone lol saving money from the old back pocket.
The redmi note 10 pro is an excellent phone excellent oled screen with great resolution, decent processor, decent camera foreveyday shots to put on social media etc, 6gb or 8gb ram for a little extra. In compattison the iphone se 2022 has 4gb ram and 128gb of onboard storage far more capable than his needs.
Ive been honest as I can and neutral through out. It would be nice to convert him if only to show his mates how capable and probably better such a phone is, dont get me wrong its no iphone 12/13 killer but neither is the iphone SE.
As I say if only for Mikes peace of mind he has got to choose and we can only guide and help along the way 🙂
By the way ajn pretty nice phone you have and lucky to get hand me downs by the throw away clan!

Sorry to hear that Mike, unfortunately you here of it all the time. I only read yesterday some scooter rider snatched somebodys phone riding past.
A quicky the Xiomi redmi note 10 pro (more specs towards the bottom of my last post to ajn) apart from decent specs it has both face unlock and fingerprint unlock. Its worth remembering though if an Iphone or Android get into the wrong hand with those with the know it is easy to bypass all this. Yes I can do it for legit reasons and no I’m not a theif lol., but you need the hardwares and software to do so and if someone as legit lost or cant recover their credidentials I can do it but I need proof.
Eight I’m talking about brand new shop brought amazon argos etc. The Iphone Se is about £450 thexiomi 10 pro £237. Its alot less painfull if that got stolen. If your going Android chinese korean taiwan even the iphones made in china I would like / recommend you go mid range. Apart from maybe opening the eyes of your friends they really do have a better spec and screen quality in this case amoled (oled) If it is your desire to go budget because it has little impact on you wallet if it gets pinched. Please just beware they are of a lower spec and screen quality won’t be great even possibly worse than your current Iphone, but they will do every day basic tasks
There are other midrange phones that could be cheaper and will have better specs screen quality maynot oled but overall better that came out in late 21-22 if you would like me to look when I get back from shopping?

Short answer YES with little to no learning.
I would be more than happy to assist you in setting it up initially and then you could either take it to o2 ee cant remenber who your with to transfer contacts or there a know how guide on apple website that is simple to use by a quick read.I’ll lil later.
However look att the last part of my previous post. Honestly though I don’t think you can beat the 10 pro price point especially with the oled screen normally only seen in flagships.

Worth a look, Amazon warehouse used very good Xiomi redmi note 10 pro £172.72. comes with 12 months warranty.( Returnable)
Will be missing flimsy silicone back case, sim ejection pin (but you will already have one) screen foil protector(I always remove them and put glass protectors on anyway) May have small scratches on the glass back cover. Comes with original box (may be damaged). comes with charger etc
The phone has gorrila glass 5 back and front (tough glass) but I always recomend a glass screen protector and decent case.

My niece said she had a new battery and screen fitted at the Apple shop last October ! Now is this a good thing or a bad thing how much would have cost her ? She is seeing her today as it got late last night my niece certainly thinks she wouldn’t want more than £100 will let you know more later

I have the iPhone 11 Pro, got it when it was launched, I think it was 2020. Absolutely love it, I bought it for the camera, I’m into photography and have a digital SLR and all the lenses and filters, but I can honestly say I use the phone a lot more when doing landscapes in Cornwall. The Pro version has the ultra wide angle lens, 11 Pro has 3 lenses standard 11 has 2. If you’re an iPhone user you’ll love the iPhone 11. Music Magpie are selling the 11 for £340 with an extra 10% off.

If the apple shop near your niece is also listed as an apple authorized service centre, the screen and battery replacement would be about £300 for both the creen and battery. If she had apples care+ cover the repair would have cost about £30 for the screen and battery replacement is free. An authorized repair centre would amost definately of gave your nieces friend a receipt with the apple logo on.
If it was repaired at a general apple phone repair shop you see in town, they would use oem parts and the rapair cast would have been under £150 as they would use non genuine parts.
If you can get it for £100 I would say its a very good buy, as you are getting a 3yr old flagship phone for the budgety end of uncharterd waters android phone 🙂
I’m a bit bemused with the swipe action, moving fingers bit Mike. Android swipes just like an Iphone does, I only have to touch the screen and move/ my finger ever so slightly (small flick) in the direction I want and the it will swipe just as it does on an iphone 13 say, so that has confused me lol. Unless your sister has the screen sensitivity turned right down, then you need to swipe from one end to the other, very tedius! Even a budgety version of samsung should be no different than an Apple in swipping. The only other that would cause that is if your sister as had low quality screen replacement at some point, my bets on the creen sensity turned down!
One other thing Mike with having a phone stollen before, remember the theiving sods are on the look out for flaship android and apple devices, maybe a phone case you can fit a small chain to and then attached to a belt loop may pursuade them to look elsewhere, but if they want it they will have it and its not worth putting your life in danger for these idiots.

..Very true mate, appart “kezophonewizzard” only if I replace a screen for “ajnmobile” I would only use what I’d be happy using myself. In most cases I’d be more expebsive on screen replacements, than say ” @wncforum ‘s phone repair service shop”, soley because I’d only use top tier screens. but, had penty custom at the time. Know I only do it for family nd friends. Thats why have been wary through out of Mike buying any old refurbished phone on ebay.
As an example there is a Iphone 11 replacement screen on Ebay for £30, I couldn’t buy decent screen at trade price for that amount.
Its all right for wmc to say “excellent Mike” but I’d want to know – was the phone repaired at an apple authorised repair centre or “ajn apple repair shop” the battery not so much an issue as long its genuine ce marked and not a copy of one. Ive been in the game long enough to see what goes on having reapaired a fair few after they gone to the foreigner’s shop!
Never the less I’d buy it for £100 receipt or no receipt where its been repaired given its from a freind of the family 🙂

Well my nieces house is in a cul de sac of half a million pound houses so I’m sure her friend in the same close had it done at genuine Apple shop as certainly not short of money I’m sure she will phone me tonight
The main thing Mike you will be getting it of a freind of close family and in my book that’s as good as guarantee you will get. Regardless whether they live in a £100,000 house or a million pound house.
As I said yesterday, I think in the long for your own peace of mind you have made the right decision, along with the fact you have family around the corner should you ever have a “bad user moment”
