Reset didn’t do it today my nieces husband said he can do it Thursday night ?.!! Had a go with friends iPhone 12 today with face recognition she said to get one of those as will get new Apple updates with it being just 2 years old !
I agree with your friend getting a newer model. As Isaid previous it would have better security and recieve IOS updates.
Maybe your nieces husband will hit it with a hammer as that often works lol. Seriously its worth him having a try even if its only cleaning the button again or a factory rest but I doubt that will work if a hard rest didn’t, plus youd loose all your data if the phone wasn’t backed up.
At the moment you still have a phone that works even without a functioning home button. Why dont you sit back and have a think about what to first 🙂

You will always get the old argument Iphones better or androids better, but laggy certainly not unless you buy the basics of basic phone, even then were talking 10yrs or more ago. Its worth remembering that for evey Iphone there is 10 if not more andoids in the same catorgory. There are 2 main players in the top end of the market in 2021 Iphone 12 and Samsung galaxy 21s in 2022 iphone 11 and Samsung 21s etc
I use android to upload programs on my projects and when I was working to upload onto bms. Iphone can’t do that but, if android was laggy I wouldn’t be using one. Its worth noting I used a Huawei P30 to do this untill recently I purchase a Redmi note 10 pro at a steal. If we lived closer I’d let you use it for a week. My everday phone is a oneplus. My daughter uses a redmi note 10 pro for watching videos as a tablet would be to big for her disability, if anyone is going to slow a phone down its her but alas she never has.
Iphone run 2 phones the main player say iphone 13 and its budget – midrange SE 2022. Andoid is swamped with phones in the budget – midrange catorgory.
To make below top end android phones cheaper they come with what is knwn as bloatware a kind of advertisment, but its as simple as putting your finger on the app/widget and swiping it to the top or bottom of the screen and its gone. You can also un-install anything in the app settings the same ou can with Iphone.
Theother thing with android if something breaks such as the home button its just a simple replacement and everything will work as did unlike iphones.
For an what I call an average user like yourself any phone will do whether android or iphone.
Unfortunately the Redmi 10 pro was reduced £150 in argos before christmas and its back to £250ish with the cheapest now £237 on amazon.
I got go hospital now but the redmi note 10 pro is Xiomi’s budget phone but it punches well into the midrange sector of android phones, with its snapdragon processor, Amoled screen, 120hz refresh rate, ram and storage. forgot 2yr guarantee.
I will come back after the hospital but heres a little video of it.

AnonymousAll 3 of my brothers had iphones but 2 have swapped to samsungs and said they never will swap back. The other bro, his phone is provided by his company, so he don’t care it’s free and he’s had company samsungs also.
Personally I’ve always had android phones and I have a s10+ right now got it from samsung at 0% at launch on their exchange scheme and sent the S9+ back after a year of having it, as battery was starting to have issues. That they’d fixed on the S10 and it does everything i need still. Good thing about getting it direct from samsung was it’s open to any network and I just have sim only deals. Are getting very expensive though phones and i think i would of had this one 4 years soon.
The big problem though is how they become obsolete after a while, we have many tablets/pads from both that no longer can update or run programs as they not compatible any more.
January 3, 2023 at 2:36 pm #204505Mike, the iPhone 8 can support the latest ios16 software.
January 3, 2023 at 2:57 pm #204510Sorry I had to rush off and bever finished Mike.
I also mwant t add its got face unlock I think you mentioned aswell as finger print unlock, The video tells yo everything though!

I’m an android fan and depending what you want from a phone theres one for everyone at a realistic price bar the likes of S series and other flagships. Apple can’t do what I want it to do for various reasons. The phone I sugested has thesame oled screen as the S21. I know Iphone has come on but your limited to apps you can get and many payable more than android, reminds me how Huwawei have gone since loosing their google licience although there sister company Honor isn’t affected in this way.
I converted my brother to even sideloaded ios on at the beginning but he’s now on his 4th S series.
I agree with tecnolodgy of any kind they only suport it for x years and something new comes out every year.
January 3, 2023 at 3:35 pm #204514Another way of looking at it you go out and buy the cheapest midrange Iphone I think is around £450 you keep it 5-6 yrs and it breaks or develops a fault. Like wise you buy a mid range android keep it 5-6 years and it breaks or develops a fault (easier to repair) yoi can bin it and go out and by another that will last another 5yrs forthe same price of the one Iphone.
The problem with apple is they have no competition to drive down prices, unlike android where companies are fighting for the best spot at the best price.

AnonymousVery true kezo, my mrs on the other hand has had sony phones for many years. last one I bought her from sony as a wedding present.
She got an upgrade recently for the same amount as she was paying for her sim only, phone arrived end of nov an s20 but it’s still in the box.
I have a sim in her name and they won’t give me such a deal although I do pay less than she doe’s for the exact same allowances.
I am now out of min contract also, so may switch or if a good deal comes along grab it or if she don’t use the s20 i’ll use that. One thing I do need is unlimited data for kids and devices to stream in the car.
Often you pay for the phone over the course of the contract but sometimes they offer good deals to keep you a customer. Right now I get unlimted data for £20 a month but is now £21.80 and will rise in april again. but i dunno if i want to takeout another sim only deal incase then the phone packs it in or games I play are not supported. Guess I’ll have a look about soon.

About supported operating systems
Currently, we provide support for and recommend using the following devices:
Android running OS 4.1 and newer
iPhone running iOS 12 and newer
KaiOS 2.5.0 and newer, including JioPhone and JioPhone 2
Once you have one of these devices, install WhatsApp and register your phone number.
Note:
WhatsApp can only be activated with one phone number on one phone at a time.
Your phone must be able to receive SMS or calls during the verification process. We don’t support setting up new accounts on WiFi only devices.
How we choose what to support
Devices and software change often, so we regularly review what operating systems we support and make updates.
To choose what to stop supporting, every year we, like other technology companies, look at which devices and software are the oldest and have the fewest number of people still using them. These devices also might not have the latest security updates, or might lack the functionality required to run WhatsApp.
What happens if your operating system is no longer supported
Before we stop supporting your operating system, you’ll be notified directly in WhatsApp ahead of time and reminded a few times to upgrade.
We’ll update this page regularly to ensure that the latest operating systems that we support are listed. You’ll always be able to call and text until they say get rid of 4g and only 5g can be used for example.
January 3, 2023 at 5:19 pm #204552Yes as wmc says the phone will still work fine, it just won’t receive any later IOS updates.
Just make sure the ebay seller has a decent feedback score given the age of the phone 🙂

I always buy sim only deals and put money to the side if my phone breaks or I fancy a new one. I find Pay monthly deals they overcharge for the phone.
I recently picked up an Oneplus 10 pro 5g £600 and 2 redmi notes 10 pro for £150 each from argos before Xmas. One for me working with and one for my daughter and can’t faults them.

Mike11Will know more tomorrow night Thankyou so much for your help I am used to iPhones but I’m not paying a lot as could easily be mugged in my country park 3 miles away
January 4, 2023 at 8:54 am #204619
ajnI’ve always had hand me down iPhones this one is now a 12 pro ..
My phone before that was the 8+, I’d say it’s the best phone through the ones I’ve have (from the 4)..
big screen easy to hold and use, no fuss..
this 12pro has no face fronting home button, instead a side button, if I’m not taking accidental continuous screen shots, the bloody flash light is on, not exaggerating it’s a pain in the bum…
January 4, 2023 at 9:23 am #204628
Mike11Yes I think an 8 plus in black would suit me a nice one with 85% battery health etc off seller with no negative feedback like you say the plus is bigger and easy to hold
January 4, 2023 at 9:54 am #204630
ajnJust be careful for the as mentioned iPhone updates, as somethings can stop working on older phones, that’s what prompted me to change, just to keep upto date really..
Unfortunately Mike I handed the phone to young lad down the way, as he damaged his, otherwise you could have had it..

Mike11I’m a tight fisted guy and it’s so tempting to just go Argos buy a £100 phone and take to my 02 shop as I’m on O2 sim only and let them set me up ! If it only lasted 3 years I wouldn’t lose out ?

You would get 3 or more years Mike out of a £100ish phone, there are many between £50 – £100 that would be able to call, text and Whatsapp on, The pixel density screen resolution won’t be great but it will be useable. It won’t be laggy but it will be limited to what tasks you perform as the processorwill be low end and the onboard ram will be 1-3gb and onboard storage will be more than likely 32gb possibly a more realistic 64gb. It will take photos but the camera wont be the best.
You could get a 5g phone for probably less than £200 but, cost savings will be made elsewhere with screen resolution and its internals.
That said a £100ish phone will give you the basics of calls, messages, social media and video calls over Whatsapp Messanger etc.
There are some smartphones in this catagory that I wouldn’t touch and others I would, so please ask before rushing out and buying one.
Apart from calls messages video calling what do you want from a phone-photo quality etc.
I’m not saying taking it to a shop to set up, but I’d be doing the basics like charging the phone and letting it fully apply any updates and setting th easye basics up prior. we can go into that later.
What

More than capable Mike for what you need and yes they will come with a charger etc in the box. Which takes your fancy and would you like me to look at any?
I don’t know where that stray “what” can from at the bottom of my comment lol
January 4, 2023 at 1:03 pm #204664Quickie @Mike if you increase your spend £40-£50 you will get a 2400×1080 HD displaywith a decent 405 pixels per inch (higer resolution) and a 90 hertz if thats important and possible 5g such as the Oppo a54 5g.
January 4, 2023 at 1:46 pm #204672Xiaomi redmi A1 £79.99 at Argos has good reviews
Hi Mike yes its got good reviews and will be more than capable for your needs, plus putting photos on whatsapp, and yul probably be happy with it.
Now I will give you my honest thoughts Its only got 720 x 1600 pixel screen (non HD) more importantly the pixel density per inch is 269 whils’t not bad its not the best in my oppinion.
Your current Iphone SE screen is 1334×750-pixel resolution at 326 ppi whils’t being a retina display. the Xiomi redmi A1 what be as good as your current SE on screen resolution.
My honest advice is whils’t being a skinflit don’t be too much of one and dig in your pocket for another £70 withe the suggestion I made above with the Oppo A54 5g 2400 x 1080 405 pixels per inch screen will be more akin to the screen you enjoy on your Iphone SE. Your still getting a brand new phone at around the price you were looking at paying for a 7yr old used Iphone yesterday and a third of the price of a new mid range I phone.
I like to be as honest as I can Mike and have no intention of being rude lol.
