      Thankyou in advance

i currently coming to second year of my car and I’m unable to drive it

due to the virus etc I no longer have a driver.

its a manual car seat atega

im in catch 22 position my money pays for the car so unable to save up and I’m paying for taxi as I can’t drive

im a large guy whos 6foot 3 not wheelchair bound but not far off it

most cars I cannot exit, I can get in but unable to get out without a dramatic exit.

i will need hand controls I can definitely see that one coming as my legs are unpredictable

I had a spinal injury and now heart issues and osteoporosis

can anyone suggest a large vehicle that’s automatic that’s below say a thousand please

i very low mileage user so plan to keep the car extra long so a nice comfortable car please

I find the higher seat easier to exit vehicle

VW Touran slightly over your budget at £1099 for the auto in the SEL spec.

I have a mitsubishi asx, it might be slightly higher than your £1000 but it’s a really good car and my husband is tall but it has so much room and actually comes with quite a lot of extras. It’s comfortable and being a tall man the height would be good for you to get in and out of. It is really easy to drive also, I don’t have much use of my legs and can’t really turn without pain but it’s a dream to drive as it’s so light and the seat height is great.  Mitsubishi only take a few weeks to get the car as they are in the UK already also. And if you can’t afford the AP but the car is a necessity i.e you need auto contact the grants team as they will help you and can pay for the adaptions needed and the AP so you can get on the road again. I’ve been a motability customer for 13 years and didn’t know they existed until this time and the process was simple and fast and the staff were lovely so it’s an option you can explore.

its not so much the money (but then everything boils down to money lol) it’s thought of paying another year for a car I can’t drive

ive got my head around this a bit more now though can we pay deposit on a credit card?

Touran SEL dsg seconded. I’m 6 2 and also have spinal injury plus slow burn Congenital MND. For my 5’6 wife and I the Touran has superb access. No high sill, wide opening doors.  900 litre boot. Roof rails handy grab rail. Very comfortable, refined and excellent visibility. A lot of car for £1099 good luck and I know how debilitating spinal problems cause so many restrictions  to life.

Have you spoken to Motability about your circumstances? I’m sure they’ll allow you to return your current car so that you don’t have to keep paying for it. There might be a grant that they can help you with towards the advance payment on a more suitable car and cost of adaptations.

They are aware of the situation

to be honest I haven’t found them like they were a few years ago.

they did reluctantly put my son on the insurance to prevent me returning the car ( he lives 15 miles from me) under the new insurance rules etc.

but since Covid started he has kept he’s distance as he works in a hospital at that time on Covid section and since contact has been mainly phone calls etc so the car has sat.

im not knocking anyone but the communication I did have previously was certainly different from 7 years ago when they honestly fell over themselves helping me (and that was just because the car we ordered didn’t have adjustable seatbelts and due to injury car was increasingly uncomfortable

but this time I went through a couple of departments resulting in the termination along with the fees when they finaly offered to put someone outside the allowed area to be insured to drive it for me

But I’ll ring them and say terminate it, if I’m allowed and can afford it I’ll get another car or at least have the money to pay towards the taxis I’m using

Honestly call them now they are almost back to normal service and hopefully you’ll get a nicer agent. Tell them your needs have changed so you need to exchange the car and enquire about the grants as they are what can be used so that the car you get has the adaptions needed with very little from you. What you have said you need can be done and you could drive it’s finding the right car and there are so many now. Like I’ve gone for the X1 because the seat height is perfect for me to get in and out from they agreed and are paying the advanced payment for me. There are ways around your problem to keep you on the road if that is what you want. Just give the call centre a ring or even go on live chat. If you don’t ask you don’t get as they say.

                        Thanks for replys

i know I’m not but nowadays I feel like a beggar

im paying good money for a car, it’s within the rules yet I literally got talked into current situation for past year

looking at the list and I know automatics discussed greatly I just don’t think there’s much of a future for disabled drivers

not so bad if car is driven able bodied but with more cars in automatic suitable for people like me (20 years ago a taller larger car was little choice) it’s nowadays more suited for able bodied drivers
