We are in the process of having a log burner fitted – not cheap, but the combo of wife wanting one for ages and the glut of cheap wood up here after last years storms have made it an attractive option for heating (with gas CH still in use, just turned down a lot). Also like the redundancy of having a secondary heat source should things go wonky over winter.

And did I mention the wife wants one? Brownie points to be had.

Our current cheapo gas/electric fixed tariff (2.7p/17p) runs until May ’23 , so expecting mucho bill shock at that point. Even on that tariff our bill is currently £300 a month, our gas use is insane and it’s just the heating and hot water, everything else is electric. Fairly new Worcester Bosch combi boiler – just no insulation/too many big rooms/single glazing.

In life, it's not who you know that's important, it's how your wife found out.
