There seems to be a glut of posts on the forum over the last few months about the Skoda Enyaq (also BMW I4) but much less so about its cousins the Audi Q4 and VW ID.4/ID.5. Why is it that so many people are fixated on the Enyaq over the others?
I know some of the posts have been triggered by the 80/85 upgrade and by Motability’s chopping and changing of the options on their list but the Audi and VW counterparts also went through this to a lesser extent.
So is it perhaps because the Enyaq is offered in higher trim levels, is it the AP or is it something else?
It would be interesting to know whether this is reflected in the numbers of Motability orders placed for these cars.
OK, so I realise I’m adding to the glut of posts about the Enyaq with this

In comparison the Enyaq has a better feel and look than the VW offerings and also a bigger boot. There’s also a common response to the VWs that they’re a little ‘plasticy’ inside. The Audi is only available in one rather poverty spec. It’s not a bad car but when you compare the base Q4 to the Enyaq 85 Edition or Sportline+ it’s just not a fair comparison.

I'll try to give my honest opinion but am always open to learning.Mark
January 17, 2024 at 3:53 pm #255548I like that it looks like a real car inside too, theyve not been too gimicky with it.
January 17, 2024 at 4:57 pm #255557PR, I think reviews generally found that the Enyaq was the better option of the EV’s built on the VW platform. It is also better equipped when judged on a price point basis.
The real reason for its popularity on Motability would be the lower Advanced Payment, which makes it a stand out scheme vehicle.
Only my opinion of course.
January 17, 2024 at 5:08 pm #255559We’ve had 3 Skoda Octavia’s in a row on Motability and enjoyed all of them. We’ve also just ordered an 85 Enyaq Edition EcoSuite at £1699 AP. The cockpit of the Enyaq feels very similar to the automatic Octavia we have, other than charging it, there’s not a lot of difference, even the buttons in the steering wheel look identical.
January 17, 2024 at 5:37 pm #255561And, without wishing to upset anyone, VW’s are extremely bland in their design (IMHO).
January 17, 2024 at 10:29 pm #255594Beauty is in the eye of the beholder as they say. Cars come into fashion. The enyaq is a horrific looking car to me. The BMW is beautiful but has a horrrifc AP.
no idea what I’m gonna do when I come to my end lease. Not paying thousands of pounds for a car I’ll never own. And my god the profits at motability show they are making a profit from us.
January 17, 2024 at 10:58 pm #255601Well so far I’m pretty much enjoying mine!
Apart from the faulty subwoofer and some software I don’t like it’s a nice drive.
I think the only bad thing about it is the colour, Race Blue, looks lovely when you get it but after a few days of Winter driving it looks absolutely filthy!!.
Never had that problem with the Red Ateca or Tiger Eye Orange Kuga or even the White Yeti 🙂
Hopefully my charger cable will turn up from Ohme tomorrow so I can give it a charge, currently sitting on 34% and 72 miles.
Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!
January 18, 2024 at 9:34 am #255617I looked at a few cars and the Enyaq stood out as the best looking and great interior compared to the ID4/5, Q4 etron, hyundai and kia.
The cabin features, the seats and spec are great, it also drives very well, and has a great boot.
The id4 looks very spartan and feels cheap inside, tte q4 feels claustrophobic and tye cockpit is to me, not ergonomic.
We all have different tastes, but to be, all BMWs are fully, the ecs look the worst especially the i4 which looks like a rabbit teeth grille.
January 18, 2024 at 10:32 am #255623Pretty much what I thought when I looked at the ID.4 and Q4. The Enyaq had more room inside than the Audi and the cabin finish is much better than the VW.

And you get a brolley in the drivers door. Simply Clever!
January 18, 2024 at 10:54 am #255635I have 2 🙂
I kept the one from my Yeti when it got written off 🙂
And of course you get the free ice scrapper (not that you need it with pre-heating) and it also has a tyre tread depth gauge on it as well 🙂

January 18, 2024 at 11:07 am #255638I had 2 umbrella’s when I had the Superb and the ice scraper in the fuel filler door.
I took them when I changed cars. Simply Clever!
January 18, 2024 at 11:34 am #255641There’s also a secret storage drawer under the passenger seat.

Is there a place for an umbrella in both front doors? I just presumed that if it’s one umbrella then it would be only the drivers door that has the purpose built housing for it.
January 18, 2024 at 12:57 pm #255662Just been out in -3 to have a look for you 🙁 🙂
There is, the old umbrella is a bit of a tight fit but it’s gone in, not had the new one out but it may be slightly different.

January 18, 2024 at 1:32 pm #255673Ah cheers. I have a few aftermarket things book marked and the second Skoda umbrella was one of them.

Just buy a 265mm umbrella a store it in the compartment under the passenger seat. Cheaper than paying £30 odd quid for one.
January 18, 2024 at 4:29 pm #255697I think I’ll just stick with one in the passenger side as I’m a baldy.
Mind I did see some lovely rubber mats on Skoda parts.com that have the ENYAQ writing in red £50 with delivery, also aftermarket Skoda mudflaps and rubber boot liner.
From the Enyaq forum they appear to be pretty good quality.
January 18, 2024 at 4:58 pm #255706I have two umbrelkas in my Superb, ordered one for the passenger side, cost £19.99
/^÷_ are OK, but nit massive, in reality individual person brolly.
Will just take my second one with me when the Enyaq arrives
January 18, 2024 at 7:45 pm #255724I opted for the Enyaq due to looks
I prefer the fact it still looks like a normal car. I know my grille is fake but at least I have one. I hate the EV,s that look too much like an EV.
When choosing I dismissed the ID range of VW as they just look dull. No style at all . That’s from a VW fan handing back a VW. The Q4 too pricey and under specced.
The reductions in Enyaq AP helped a lot.
I considered other EV,s but was put off by either AP price or designed I didn’t like .
January 19, 2024 at 12:21 pm #255769I did research on the Enyaq Coupe for months before deciding to order the car.
The Upgrades to the MEB platform & the revamped infotainment to version 4.0 made the decision easier. I’ve also ordered the 85x as it has the updated battery management the same as the VRS and also upgraded batteries from a different manufacturer, from memory. Also the rear motor on the 85x is the new Ap550 higher torque motor.
I test drove the same car but a 80x Sportline Coupe and it drove really well, quite fast and quiet & handled firmly. To say its a 2.4 tonne car it can certainly go around corners. The car looks modern in design & the build quality is second to none both inside & out. A lot of the old extras now come as standed too & with a competitive AP makes the car affordable. The car I ordered works out at £55k, how the he’ll could you afford to buy one at that price. Leasing companies are charging £800 plus a month for a 85x Coupe without the benefits of Motability.
So for me, it was a no brainer. It was the correct height for me, I can get in & out easily even with poor mobility & the driving position makes maneuvering the car easy. It’s my choice I know but, it’s a hell off a car and I think one of the best value cars on Motability.

January 19, 2024 at 7:17 pm #255811Someone after my own heart! I came to exactly the same conclusion having viewed the options. I like the look of the Coupe and the compromise of losing a little volume in the boot and no rear wiper was worth it. Whilst the AWD might not be needed quite as much for the small amounts of snow we get, it will certainly come in handy for the excessive rain we seem to be getting !
Enjoy your new car when you get it.
January 19, 2024 at 7:18 pm #255809The batteries on the 60 & 80 series are made by CATL. The batteries on the 85 series are made by LG Chemicals.
The BMS (Battery Management System) is upgraded on the 85x & VRS models.

January 21, 2024 at 9:51 am #255896I tested my brother in law’s new Enyaq for nearly an hour yesterday , an 85 with
ecosuite, and I must say that I was very impressed, and there is no wonder that it is attracting so much interest on the forum! It is well put together, quite quick quiet and smooth , with loads of room , and a fair bit of kit on board- I don’t know the range but I estimated that it was doing around 150 miles between charges?
Altogether a nice roomy car, which is heading the list for my next change (which can’t be ordered until August 2005, )assuming that the AP’s are realistic?
In the meantime (as we travel longish distances each month, the wife was not keen on the EV range between top up’s) I have a QQ ePower, a sort of’ half way house’ in that it has a 100% electric drive, giving an EV type of driving experience, ie smooth ,quiet, instantly responsive, but with the battery being charged by a petrol ICE, rather than having to be’ plugged in’ & with absolutely no range anxiety, as the ice can be topped up at any fuel station, just like any other car?
