Thank you for all your advice. So as not to upset anyone at Motability I have decided to route the cable from the 12v socket under the dash and up the A pillar to the dash cam. As my better half has pointed out I usually remove the camera when parked anyway, I’ll just have to remember to do it.
Yes, there is an option for a USB port in the mirror housing. Unfortunately it comes as part of an additional package which at the time of ordering was around £1000 and included adaptive cruise control etc. Looks like I will have to remember to unplug the dash cam from the 12v socket every time I leave the car. Why the 12v sockets are always live I don’t understand.
Robert88, just got back from Skoda Derby, spoke to Luke who did the original order. Five minutes later he had reordered the same car. £500 saved. Happy bunny!
Robert88, I placed the order two weeks ago anticipating that there may be a price change. I asked the salesman if he would be able to reorder, he said if the price changed he would contact me if I didn’t contact him first,, which was always going to be the case. I will contact him tomorrow and let you know the outcome.
I have just ordered a Skoda Karoq. I wanted the premium paint and was prepared to pay the difference, about £400. The salesman phoned motability and says he was told I had to pay the full price, around £1000. I don’t understand it, surely the resale value after the lease expires would have been greater. BTW I declined and have settled for metallic silver. Only good news is the AP has dropped by £500 in Q2 so I will be contacting the dealer shortly.
Glos Guy, you may remember I also had the BMW X1 on the scheme three years ago. My handover is due in June and I have spent the last few weeks looking around for a replacement. I surprised myself after test driving the Skoda karoq how similar the driving and seating position is compared to the X1. I know it doesn’t compare to the overall luxury of BMW but my wife found it very easy to get comfortable in, so much so she has convinced me to place an order. But yes, I will miss the X1 .
