For those who may not have spotted it, I just noticed that the recent update to the Volvo Cars app has restored the ability to schedule charging times.  It was removed last year because in some circumstances it was causing starter batteries to go flat.

I was planning to fit a 13A socket with a built in timer when our new car arrived, so charging could done at night, but obviously no need now.

Wigwam is it just a standard outdoor socket you have just now?

I really like the idea of how you can choose petrol or electric with that car Ww, I defo would have had one of those.

Yes. Brydo, I already have a socket in the porch which should be near enough – if it turns out not to be I can fit one further away without any bother.

The XC40 onboard charger has a maximum charge rate of 3.7kW, so at that rate, empty to full takes about 3 hours. But it would mean buying a suitable charge cable and fitting a 16A commando socket, so about £200, which doesn’t seem worth the bother to me. The standard cable charges at 10A, so empty to full takes 4 to 5 hours, which I’m ok with.

Struth, one of the determining factors in going for the XC40 over another X1 was looking forward to me being able to de-ice and warm the car up on dark winter mornings before MrsW went off to work, while sitting having breakfast!

Yes, its something i would like, as my mobility is getting worse and on my own now, but finances might make it difficult right now and finding a suitable one size wise.  Also although i only mostly drive local i like to go down to N Wales and thats further than a charge in most. Also as im in rented accomedation im not sure if they will accept a box.

Still thanks for all the info.. all the stuff here is great to learn from.

Hi Wigwam. I’m a new XC40 owner, just discovered this site. Have you still got the charge scheduling function on your app? Mine disappeared overnight, Volvo said they know about the problem and are working on it! Thanks ?

Yes, Baz96. It’s there and seems to be working fine. The car charged on schedule last night.  The app is version 5.4.1 Android.
