Thank goodness our xc40 is back, no more driving about in a smelly Ford Focus.
The car hire company had no large vehicles available so a Ford Focus was offered, and reluctantly accepted. When it arrived it was stinking of cigarette smoke with stained cloth seats. Phoned and complained, got a “sorry about that” but no alternative available.

Volvo Hillington Glasgow where brilliant, apart from not having a courtesy car available, and they turned a normal four day repair around in two.

So back to pure electric driving and hopefully everything works and continues to work.

Just heading out to fill up the courtesy car with petrol, how much is a litre now?

The only person who got all his work done by Friday was Robinson Crusoe.

Why don’t you go and find out for yourself.

Brydo, don’t put anything in it. Let them come and collect it.

@Philip we were given a courtesy car when our Kuga broke down a couple of years ago. They are delivered brimmed and are supposed to be returned brimmed. I had to do a lot of running around and brimmed it prior to returning it, then had to do another couple of unplanned errands. The needle was barely off full, but I thought nah, they won’t penalise me for that. Not only did I get charged about £3 for petrol, there was also a charge made against my card (I forget the amount, £10? £25?) for “inconvenience” fees. They will come and fetch the car from your home (and the miles they put on it before delivery to the next customer means they might have to brim it again anyway, making a mockery of the inconvenience fee), so even if you’ve only done a few miles best to brim it again

I would  replace what used.I left it for collection and company charged well over the odds for fuel top up,gurantee they will charge you more than if did yourself. It should say in paperwork their costs for topping up.

This is Europcar. They make up their own rules, then break them.  Whatever contract they have with Motability/RAC they make a point of supplying the worst cars they have available.  Plenty of history with these people…

I topped it up, just short of £10.

So glad to have the Volvo back reminds me of the old saying “you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone”. If anyone sees me complaining about it give me a virtual slap ?.

And now the wife can get out and about again.

Its a beautiful day so I’m now heading out with the wife for a drive. No further than 27 miles return though as that’s the max electric range ????

28th mile instant drop to 21mpg.

Still shocked by how bad that petrol engine is, glad you get 27 miles of joy out of it before the drunkard comes back on.

That bad petrol engine gets me 45-48mpg on long runs, not too far off the mpg of the lighter 2 litre BMW X1 we had before the T5, Rene. Do give it up.

Pleased that you have the x40 back. I found Europcar pretty good.  We got a Passat, not a perfect replacement but clean.

Glad your cars sorted and Volvo have done a good turnaround on the issue.

We had an issue where we couldn’t have a courtesy car and they got us an hire car but  I refused to have it, it was disgusting and smelled. The guy who brought it was an arse and said that the car was to there standard.

An ev might of been better to stretch your 27 mile run though.

When it comes to Europecar like a lot of businesses I think it comes down to location. We had a Grand Land last year it was spotless, the only issue was the seats were bloody uncomfortable it was a business edition if that makes a difference.

We thought we had struck lucky with Europcar when the provided us with a Mercedes GLB for a week last year. Other than a stain on the front passenger seat, the car was clean and had no odours. The problem was that the car was cr@p as the digital dashboard kept crashing and I had a bland screen and no idea how fast I was going. Also, it went into ‘limp home mode’ once and I couldn’t go over 10mph unless going into kick down. To be fair, these were Mercedes problems, not Europcar ones.

I took a leaf out of your book Wigwam when we took our X1 on holiday last week. I set cruise control at a sedate 60mph and achieved 51.4mpg which, with the large fuel tank, was a range of 650 miles. Best of all, I didn’t have to plug it in once during the holiday ? ?
