when i took delivery of my juke hybrid the first thing the motability chap did was show me how to turn stuff off. esp the lane assist. most roads round here have cars parked both sides so you have to play slalom with any on coming traffic so you effectively drive down the middle of the road. of course all the tech goes bonkers bleeping and fflashing up on the screen and attempting to take over. its mad.
never mind adding extras they ought to let you take stuff off.
its now autumn and the plain trees drop leaves the size of dinner plates which of course activates the collision avoidance sotware. now in a morning i kangaroo off the estate its a pain as you cant turn that one off.
i miss the hillman imp lol.

I’m with you all the way, with all the crap bings and bongs and the whiplash caused by the shadows or leaves the size of dinner plates!
If only life was that simple anymore choosing and owning a car that doesn’t sound like Big Ben on speed!
It also seems life has become to difficult for manufacturers, they don’t know what a real knob or button is anymore and choose to integrate things in a touchy feely kind of way!
Now, are you sure the 1001 page online manual doesn’t give you destructions to turn the sensitivty of these daft features down.

Roger WikcoQuite simple, the generation buying these cars are the mobile phone/PlayStation generation and buy cars such as Teslas, because it fits in with their lifestyle.
October 31, 2023 at 7:04 pm #241098A lot to do with NCAP I suspect, safety first!

October 31, 2023 at 8:21 pm #241114well since may the closest ive come to an accident is someone almost running into the back of me because the collision avoidance braked suddenly because it couldnt tell the difference between a child and a plain tree leaf.
i suppose the boffins would say at least the car behinds system worked.
although it was an old fiat so i doubt it had one lol.

AnonymousSome cars only have the high ncap rating because of the safety features. It’s progress if it saves lives. It’s a pain but like everything else we adjust. You can’t do anything nowadays without it involving a ton of tech.
November 1, 2023 at 5:39 am #241139@mickc I don’t have to touch anything, not even the handbrake as there isn’t one for the driver. I get in, put it into drive and go. Simple! No buttons, to which there are none, bongs or lights a flashing.
It’s one of the best features of the ID3.

November 1, 2023 at 9:39 am #241172@DumfriesDik dont you even have a box pop up on the screen telling you how many seat belts are in use, with the message suits you sir OK…..if i dont click OK the message stays there for about 30secs.
So i have seat belt message to OK
I have drive mode to select i choose ECO because i am an ecovangelist
I deactivate auto start/stop
I deactivate lane keeping
I wish i could delete the emergency brake assist, its there lurking in the background waiting for you to go round a bend and there is a parked car in a layby which it thinks you are going to drive into so up pops a big flashing red box with a message…………..argh were going to crash …do something.
November 1, 2023 at 9:53 am #241173@MickC can you play the piano? You soon will! Yeah, I don’t turn anything off, what car are you driving?

November 1, 2023 at 12:16 pm #241201Surely it must be more distracting someone having to adjust things on a screen rather than using knobs. When was the last time anybody actually had to look at a heater or volume knob when turning it up or down.
November 1, 2023 at 12:39 pm #241212The thing that Pee’s me off the most is before you set off you have to stop the lane change ete etc. Then you stop at paper shop, In and out in 30 seconds and every setting you changed has reverted back to default! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Previous car:Peugeot 308 GT Premium 1.2 Pure tech Petrol.November 1, 2023 at 6:02 pm #241261I’ve had to change the route to the supermarket because of the stupid emergency collision system. We have a rather sharp corner with residential parking right after the corner. Every single time I use that road it’s convinced I’m going to crash and hits the damn brakes. Going the other way there’s a road the goes off to the right off the same corner (outside of the bend) and the speed warning picks up the 20mph sign and ignores that the road goes the other way, thus for the next 2 miles I’m nagged for speeding at 30mph in a 30!! There’s also a factory entrance that has put 5mph signs up on each side of their gate. Needless to say the squinting camera picks that up and decides that’s the speed limit for the main road. Another few miles of getting nagged to death.
Only upside is that the stupid system doesn’t control the speed to suit what it thinks the limits are, I’d be rear ended before long.

This is the next step of autonomous driving!
At that stage I will be looking for an older car..
November 1, 2023 at 6:35 pm #241265The Enyaq already adjusts speeds on ACC when going into new speed limits. Great for road works on motorways but not where there are side roads with greatly reduced speeds.

New cars are now flashing a symbol and/or bing bong when you go 1 or 2 mph over the speedlimit as part of a new EU directive, which affect most cars sold in the UK. Give it a couple of years now may cars are connected, it will likely be mandatory always on ACC around towns with an out of tune ice cream van sound if you try to push past the limit ?

SonnyThe emergency braking saved me rear ending someone on a traffic lighted roundabout, they were clearly looking at the wrong lights and slammed on the brakes part way round it. The car reacted before I did.
The lane assist was switched off as soon as I realised it had it, not at all suitable unless on a motorway. On ours it stays off, no need to keep doing it.
Only thing I do every time I get in is turn off the stop start which is on a physical button. It’s a shame it’s not off by default but after 3 years it’s second nature. I read somewhere that it actually uses more fuel with it working.
When we first got the car it bonged loudly none stop every time a door was opened. People would stop and stare. Thankfully a “convenience update” was release which the dealership installed free of charge which stopped that, now it only bongs when it thinks I’ve left the key in the car I.e. when I get out and back in again. It’s not very clever but I guess some people need it.
