I know very little about those being talked about as the next Prime Minister but going on the basis that nobody could be worse than BJ I am relaxed about who gets the job, as long as it’s not Liz Truss.
So I’m sure there are members who have a deeper knowledge of those being touted so it would be good to hear your views and comments.

Ah… Someone who tries to up the profile by shoving herself on to “reality” Chav-TV telly. Just the sort we need as a wise, statesmanlike PM to represent the country’s interests on the world stage, then.
July 15, 2022 at 9:44 am #190867Kezo if your description is correct you would expect him to be a “shoe in” with the Tory members as they love a dodgy rich boy.

She joined the RN reserves when she was trying to get elected MP for Portsmouth (lots of Navy votes there) as a subaltern. She was given an honorary Captaincy as a forces minster and she shows off her photo in her Captains dress uniform. Never served.
July 15, 2022 at 9:56 am #190870Brydo, I would hope Tory members will have had their fill of dodgy rich boys by now.

That does not make it ‘Fake’ she did join – so it is real.
July 15, 2022 at 10:18 am #190875Miss Mordaunt signed up as a Royal Naval Reservist in 2010. She was made an honorary commander in 2019 and an honorary captain last year. But she has not served on an operational deployment. She does not currently fulfil the Royal Naval Reserve’s training commitments or receive a salary, as her entries to the MPs’ interests register confirm.
July 15, 2022 at 1:02 pm #190883I tend to be wary of political threads on forums because they become contentious. Politics is tribal and talk is usually combative and often dripping with vitriol, and that can spill over into our lives when we share opinions on it.
This particular ‘PM’ election is shaping up along the same self interested lines that the few who are involved in ‘king or queen making’ always follow. Which candidate is genuinely the best to look after the best interests of the UK population at this very difficult time has become a non existent issue in this ‘dogma’ dog fight.
As we continue to discuss the ongoing election, let’s remember that we all have, and are all entitled to different opinions.
Respect in all things …. Thanks.
Can I please appeal to all of you to post respectfully as an acknowledgement

why you little!!! lol. yes they can be, and often get deleted/closed when they do. quite frankly none of us should really be bothered much as none of the above in race will do anything for us; or if they do itll be by accident. they are now nearly all interested in themselves and their rich masters.

I do dislike the blatant dishonesty of politicians and call them out when I find it.
Mordaunt just told a barefaced lie in the conhome podcast which I am watching. When answering a question about defence, she claimed 12 years in the navy. Reality is she spent 5 years as a temporary reserve subaltern with no active service. Wikipedia has the details if anyone cares.

Luckily I thing everyone is on the same or next page on this thread so more comical than anything else.
Have you any thoughts POPS who you would like to see as next PM?

Full time job that Wigwam.

BrydoToo late to keep BJ ?
Liz Truss could be PM ???????????????????????????????.
All she has to do is get into the final two.???????????????????????????
Just when you think it can’t get any worse.
??????????????????????????
July 19, 2022 at 8:22 pm #191161As someone who would like to see a Labour government, Liz Truss doing well is a good thing. She’s continuity Boris, she’ll keep the same people around her, Mogg, Dorries, Patel and Williamson. She’s a Remainer/Brexiter , Tory/LibDem. She gets destroyed in any debate I’ve seen her take part in.

July 19, 2022 at 8:41 pm #191162Yes she is pretty useless. The conservatives really must find a better way to elect a leader. All the MP climbing the greasy pole will now be whoring themselves to whoever promises them a plum job.
July 19, 2022 at 9:32 pm #191165How I see it is come the worse we only have till 2024 for the next election.
July 19, 2022 at 11:08 pm #191168i am dreading the next election, last time labour got in they nearly bankrupted us. they threw good money after bad at the nhs and it ended up worse than when they began.
and i havent heard a single policy out of their mouths since they binned corbyn probably because all they have had to do is sit back and wait for boris to implode.

BrydoAs much as I want a change of government I can’t help looking at the Labour Party and thinking “where’s all the talent”. If they have up and coming MPs that are capable now is the time to promote them as what I see on offer just now doesn’t cut the mustard.
Based on my view of the conservative members position on electing an Asian PM I assume the next PM will be a woman.
July 20, 2022 at 10:39 am #191194Regarding the NHS, the Tories paint a corridor and say they’ve built a new hospital.

July 20, 2022 at 1:53 pm #191216Jojoe be careful what you wish for, as one is not better than the other regarding the nhs and the Private finance initiative as an example of that it was started by john major but Tony blair took it to a whole new level.
Meanwhile our local hospital will have spent six times the amount on the contract to refurbish and service the site than it actually costs, by the time payments are complete.
The project cost developers £326 million but, by the time it is paid off, interest and fees will take it the money forked out by NHS Sherwood Forest Hospitals to just over £2 billion. That’s payday lender rates if you ask me.
In 2017 there were around 700 PFI schemes in Britain, with an estimated capital value of about £59 bn but which cost taxpayers over £308 bn.
By 2050, when the NHS makes its final payment for the 118 PFI schemes to build or redevelop hospitals in England and Wales, it will have shelled out £78.3billion.
In the context of the NHS, the contract between a SPV and an NHS Trust can be for as long as 60 or even 100 years. The difference between the original cost of a building and what the Trust will have paid by the end of the contract is usually massive: there are instances where some NHS Trusts are paying almost 12 times the initial sum borrowed. It means that while investors in PFI schemes make extraordinary profits –sometimes as much as 40 to 70% in annual returns – the NHS Trusts involved have less money available in their operational budget for equipment, staffing and patient care and are therefore cutting services. Increasingly, Trusts with PFI contracts are going into financial deficit.
Take, for example, Bart’s Health, the biggest NHS Trust in England, which entered into a 35 year PFI contract for the provision of new medical facilities at two of its sites. The new buildings came into service in 2012. The cost of providing the facilities was £1.15 billion but with the cost of inflation-linked repayments rising every year, the total cost to the Trust will be £7 billion by the end of the contract. In 2015 alone, repayments will amount to £143.6 million, with the Trust running a budget deficit of over £90 million. In the same year, the Trust received one of the worst inspection reports ever issued by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The CQC, which had previously placed the Trust in to Special Measures, rated services at Barts Health as ‘Inadequate’: concerns included poor patient safety, a high rate of cancelled operations, and high levels of stress and low morale amongst staff.
So that the reason the nhs is in the state it’s in and where the money goe’s.
July 20, 2022 at 4:07 pm #191232So it’s odds on to be Truss for PM then.
July 20, 2022 at 5:07 pm #191240I was going to put it in the news thread, however here I think is more appropiate.
We want a vote to keep Boris Johnson as PM, demand Tory members
More than 2,000 Conservative members have written to the party’s chairman to demand a vote on whether Boris Johnson should carry on as leader……
Personally I would rather Bojo with all his faults to stay, rather than have iffy fishy rishi rich boy as PM.
