Who can drive a motability car?

Previously my son stayed with us and was on the insurance of our motability car. He has moved to his own house about ten minutes away. On occasions he would need to drive our car as my wife doesn’t drive and I periodically suffer from a bad back that can confine me to my bed.

I am aware that there are rules to who can go on the insurance but not sure what they are. Ideally my son would be able to go on the insurance but I’m not sure he would be allowed.

      Any info would be appreciated.

i dont think youll have a problem as i assume the car will primarily be at your house. i think they only get a bit sniffy if the car stayed with him an he was usuing it as his dail transport. thats when they start asking questions an wanting trackers etc.

i have my sister on my ins as once a year she needs to take me for my spinal injection and the dont let you drive after and she lives 30 miles away. its cheaper than a cab lol.

I have my sister as a named driver.  She lives approx 25 miles away, half an hour’s drive.  Wasn’t an issue.

My best friend lives 25 miles away and she is on my insurance as she takes me to hospital appoinments when they say not to drive yourself. She also can drop me off closer to places and then go park the car plus share the driving when we go out.

                Hi Mate,

I hope you are well ??

like others have posted I can’t see it being an issue , especially when you explain your reasons for wanting your Son on the policy

I’ve had my best friend on all my policies, she lives 15 mins away in the car , She’s only on it for extra peace of mind/security incase my back went

I’m always the driver when we go a run in the car etc, so it’s good knowing that she can take over if I need her too , never had to so far ??

I’m sure MB will agree it’s a good idea to have your Son on the policy just incase

i had to call MB recently and the wait time was horrendous, Guy advised that if you’re going to call them best calling them first thing in the morning to avoid most of the queue
