BrydoI should have clarified that I mean “car dealer” just in case there was any drug related misunderstanding ?
During the order process and including any test drive what is the minimum service you should receive as a motability customer?
I would start with courtesy, the number of posts on the forum complaining about the way they have been treated is a disgrace.
Honesty, is that too much to ask for? Someone to tell you the information they have about delivery times and availability.
Taking it to the day of pick up should the salesman set the car up for you? Many cars have a number of technical hoops to jump through that make using the car much easier. Could they pair your mobile phone to your car or set your driving preferences such as seat position driving modes etc.
Even showing you where the windscreen top up is, the control for popping the bonnet and where to find the car tyre pressure guide.
Obviously we all have different capabilities but I recently put air in the tyres and topped up the windscreen washer reservoir for an old guy, not disabled, the other week, he had no idea how to pop the bonnet.

I think my dealer has been reasonable for these times.
To be honest I read and view so much about a car long before I order one I think I know more about the car that the dealers do. The dealer on collection started to run through a few things about the car but he could see my lack of of interest and sure he felt he was just teaching me to suck eggs.
He did ask if I wanted the “Car Connect” set up but as that includes passwords and all that I gave it a miss but was a bit worried because in the past it require authorization from your dealer but again I read they’ve changed that and the security is via having the two keys for the car present.
I waited near on 15 months for my new car and the dealer always got back to me whenever I called them but then I understand the current situation with car deliveries and its mostly out of their hands so I always spoke to them with a civil tongue. ?
On this handover I just wanted to know how to pop the filler cap as normally the first trip from the dealer is to a petrol station however they already put half a tank in, a first for me in the five Motability cars I’ve had.
March 8, 2023 at 12:41 pm #2143552 years ago my Toyota dealer let me have a 2 hour test drive in a Yaris and a CHR what I ordered both test drives were on my own ps Brydo I love your Oled tv
March 8, 2023 at 1:15 pm #214361At least a cup of tea or coffee and be treated like a first class citizen and not second class just because its a Mobility order. Although a free set of mats and a full tank of fuel would be nice and would earn the dealer a good review!
March 8, 2023 at 1:19 pm #214362Kezo I’ve always had coffee and hob nobs would you believe at VW dealer next door hadtin of Diet Coke
March 8, 2023 at 2:28 pm #214381On collection…The keys to the car. Don’t need anything else.
And the rest…some basic courtesy, a decent test drive, competence and knowledge from Motability guy about the cars on Motability (had some say “its not on the scheme” when it was).
Not bothered about coffee/tea/nibbles, nice when available, sure, but it’s not a cafe & I am after a car.
Worst experience? Being shouted at to GET OUT just after walking in the door…Thanks, Renault Perth, you remain the worst car dealership I’ve ever been to…Ooops, just checked, there are now no Renault dealerships in Perth…not surprised! Best? Several dealers all the same here, decent courteous service, good range of test drives and treated like a human being…
In life, it's not who you know that's important, it's how your wife found out.
March 8, 2023 at 2:32 pm #214384On all 3 occasion Ford Focus, Ford Kuga and Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, dealers just gave us the keys for a test drive on collection again just gave the keys.
Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally I get confused and often say the wrong thing.
March 8, 2023 at 2:35 pm #214386Abercol why did they shout get out at you ?

BradAm I right in thinking some dealers offer a 48 hour test drive? To see if it fits up the driveway/ what it’s like shopping in in town etc? I think Land Rover use to do this?

steveAs a minimum I believe the dealers should have an equivalent or better vehicle as a service loan vehicle. So many times I have been offered the lowest possible model and specification possible sometimes not even from the same manufacturer.
It isn’t just a recent or Motability thing. In the 1990’s I had an outrageous BMW that cost almost as much as the house I was living in. When the car went in for some work they offered me a Cinquecento https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiat_Cinquecento
Lets say the air was a nice shade of blue when they expected me to drive to business meetings and park in the executive car park.

Brydo@Steve my xc40 was in for a service recently and I was given an xc60 as a replacement, it was nice, having had one previously on motability, but it made me realise how much I prefer our xc40.
When I wrote this post I really was expecting many more posters looking for help settling up the tech in the car. I wrongly assumed that this could would be the biggest hurdle as cars nowadays have a lot of tech installed.
Just shows how wrong you can be and how tech savvy many of us are ?
March 9, 2023 at 10:46 am #214485Some of the lesser brands have small family type dealerships which can be much more friendly and interested in the customer as a person rather than as means to meeting a sales target. Of course they lack the corporate facilities, which bothers me none. Our local Suzuki dealer had all the time in the world to natter when we were last there, three of them joined in, and invited us to call in any time, despite us having two test drives and declining both cars. And the test drives were “take it away, bring it back” no paperwork or checks.

BradWe also had a bad experience with a VW dealer. Got followed around the dealership had to literally tell the salesman to go away

Don PurdyBig shout out for the the MB guy at Cars2 Seat Wakefield,
Nothing was too much trouble, first class service from start to finish, and Car supplied inside of a week!
If your after a Seat and in the area, i’d highly recommend them!
March 13, 2023 at 10:34 pm #215117Same with local VW here, won’t ever set foot in the place again, terrible on all 4 visits over the years, alweays ended up ordering from a different brand. Only exception was Ashley at JCT600 Wakefield who was brilliant, unfortunately Covid hit and never did get the R-Line Tiguan.
Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!

Hi Brydo
Getting the dealer to set up all the tech, where’s the fun in that?
Took my new car out on the Motorway to see how all this lane keeping and adaptive cruise control and the likes works and within a few miles had it mastered once that is I had the confidence in knowing the car would brake to a stop and pull away again with the radar locked onto the car or lorry in front.
Within 20 minutes the car was driving itself and I could break open a bottle of brandy, light up a cigar and put my feet up on the dash and get some sleep.
Just joking folks as with my disability I can’t put my feet up on the dash.
???

FeefeeI done a test drive with nissan qashqai last month. Got a 40 minute test drive. First thing he asked when I got back was are we signing the paperwork. Never really said much when I said I wanted to think about it. Went into mazda today and won’t be back to that dealership, wasn’t interested at all, was a hassle when asked to view car, asked what model was available on motability he said well you better come inside then but didn’t even offer a test drive or discuss prices and said if you wait till next month the AP is going up and you won’t get any new cars coming on.
Then went in VW garage. They were excellent, very knowledgeable discussed my needs but sadly no cars were suitable.
