I have extended my lease, but quite tempted by the ID4.
I rarely do more than a 60m round trip nowadays, and they’re available for almost no AP with the £750.
Might have to take a trip to VW next month.
December 26, 2023 at 2:56 pm #252361Thanks Glos Guy and MF. I’ve driven both the Ioniq 5 and 6 with digital camera mirrors. They give a very clear high resolution image, but will take a lot of getting used to because of the relocated viewing position. I didn’t intend to order them but the colour I wanted is an unusual ‘minority choice’ and I was offered a car that was supposedly being built that week in that colour, with the camera mirrors. The alternative was a factory build for delivery approximately late May. Another reason for the camera choice on the Ioniq 6 is the fact that the twin screens placement is already built in to each end of the dash, and with standard mirrors you are left with two blanked spaces. The aircraft styled dash with its swept up ends look as though it needs the two lit up screens to complete it aesthetically. That’s just my opinion, having spent a fair bit of time sat in three different ‘6’s lol.
Yeah, that makes sense. I can’t see why they would be deemed a bad idea, unless the cameras gunk up in poor weather and cause visibility issues like my reversing camera lens (albeit that’s at the back of the car, which attracts muck whilst driving). Maybe part of the reason they say to avoid them is the cost?
December 26, 2023 at 3:04 pm #252363The Id4 certainly looks like a bargain now especially with the power increase and software improvements.
December 26, 2023 at 3:12 pm #252366I wouldn’t imagine you are @POPS ! Its a shame this has happened, as I know how much you were looking forward o having it. Is there another Hyundai dealer in your local area, perhaps you can order from?
Incidently, the only incident recently of car ended up in a ditch, was on November 6th, where a transporter fell into ditch alongside M4 during crash near Bristol. However that was carrying Dacia & Renault vehicles!
If the GT Line S were to join in Q1, at a reasonable AP, then thats equivulent to the Ioniq Ultimate minus the heatpump. However you can use the mirror money to spec a heatpump, if you really need one 🙂
December 26, 2023 at 3:15 pm #252367The KIA EV6 really does seem vastly overpriced at the moment and surely that will change.

The GT Line S would be an amazing car, I’ve sat in one and it eclipses the GT Line and that stereo upgrade is much better than a Bose one.
That car below £5,000 would be tempting, below £4K would be awesome.

December 26, 2023 at 3:51 pm #252371Retail prices on the EV6 are interesting:
Model Retail AP
EV6 ‘Air’ 77.4kWh lithium-ion 226bhp RWD 1-speed auto £45,275 £5,999
‘Horizon’ 77.4kWh 226bhp 1-speed Auto (RWD) £45,995
EV6 ‘GT-Line’ 77.4kWh lithium-ion 226bhp RWD 1-speed auto £48,275 £6,499
EV6 GT-Line 77.4kWh lithium-ion 226bhp RWD 1-speed auto (Heat Pump) £49,175
EV6 ‘GT-Line’ 77.4kWh lithium-ion 321bhp AWD 1-speed auto £51,775 £6,999
EV6 GT-Line 77.4kWh lithium-ion 321bhp AWD 1-speed auto (Heat Pump) £52,675
EV6 ‘GT-Line S’ 77.4kWh lithium-ion 226bhp RWD 1-speed auto £52,775
EV6 GT-Line S 77.4kWh lithium-ion 226bhp RWD 1-speed auto (Heat Pump) £53,675
EV6 ‘GT-Line S’ 77.4kWh lithium-ion 321bhp AWD 1-speed auto £56,275
EV6 GT-Line S 77.4kWh lithium-ion 321bhp AWD 1-speed auto (Heat Pump) £57,175So, should the AP reduce by £2,000 the RWD GT-Line S could then be somewhere around £5,250-500 area, drop it to in line with the Hyundai (around £2,000 up to £3,500) and the GT-Line S would be around the £4k area and the AWD could be £4,500, all without heat pumps.

We can live in hope.
GT Line S has uses Meridian 14-speaker Sound System compared to Bose 8 speaker system in the i6 Ultimate. Bose for example is famous for emphasizing the mid-range, so will depend on ones ears which system is best. However many in car premium sound systems are licensed out to third party manufacturers.

Most OEM manufacturers still use relatively cheap speakers and still run on the theory that more speakers = better sound (it really doesn’t). What I look for is the ability to tweak the sound – the ZS has a 5 band equaliser and allows you to set the volumes to each corner so you can focus the sound to come from the front, mostly the front or all around. For best sound in the front seats you want the most of the sound from infront of you (all except sub bass is ideal). The ZS requires a certain level of rear sound as the midbases are much stronger behind and add some depth that the fronts simply can’t. So a premium sound system with a decent, programmable equaliser and I can get the best possible sound, usually the premium sound might add some deadening behind the speakers, improving their sound for little extra cost.

Its whether the in car audio tuned by Bose for example or Bose simply supply the equipments. As long as we remember its a car and not going to be a dedicated a Hifi system wewill be on a winner. That said some cars have tremendous systems in them, of which the Mazda CX60 Bose set up was excellent and imo better than the Bose in the i6. Meridan is equally a good premium system. My mate has Meridan in his Range Rover Evoque and it is outstanding. My Tuscon Ultimate has Krell, also premium but, its crap, so I guess it how manufacturers implement them in their cars. I do wonder what it would sound like, if I could retrofit my amp and Kef speakers in my car lol.
Hope your Christmas going well.
December 26, 2023 at 8:16 pm #252400He denied it of course. I was then offered a curated silver ‘6’ with digital cam mirrors, that had “just come off the transporter that afternoon”. He said that his dealership would pay half (£500) towards the mirror if I agreed to change the order. That sounded reasonable until I realised when I went into see it that it was actually the same “new car” that I had test driven days earlier. (the clear plastic protective coverings had been ripped off and were still in the same place that the sales person stuffed them and the delivery sticker on the side window had the same serial number as I had photographed at the time). So it was more than a bit annoying that I had been given totally ‘wrong info’. At that point I cancelled my order.
Hope you don’t mind my asking but can I ask if you told the salesman that you were cancelling the order due to the dishonesty you’d experienced? Or did you simply say: “not interested, I’ll try somewhere else” and just move on?

I’ve been involved in the process of car sales and car leasing long enough to know that car dealerships and sales persons have a job to do. It’s not just about getting a ‘sale’ or even ‘upselling’ options. It’s about meeting monthly targets, month in month out, year in year out. It’s a very tough environment and a stressful job.
I’m a customer with more experience than most of the buying and leasing process, so I accept that the showroom process is a search for mutual benefit. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, but you always have the option to walk away if you feel the deal isn’t right for you.
I told the manager firmly that I doubted his explanation about the ‘accident’ and also his offer about the silver ‘6’ off the transporter, but I didn’t fall out with him. He did what he felt he had to do, and I opted out.

Oh the wisdom. Everybody has target to hit, we want a car before the quarter changes and prices and availability change. The sales people are keen to hit their targets, their managers have their targets and the dealerships will have theirs to achieve on top. None of it is personal, all they’re doing is their very best to achieve and surpass those targets and maximise their income, wouldn’t you in their shoes?
As a customer, you have plenty of opportunity to decide whether the way they do business suits you and whether you want to place an order with them. Remember everything they’re going through for work and it might work to your benefit, for example, if you’re able to order as of the 20th of March, if they’re struggling to get their numbers you may well get a great deal, all the car for all the AP with options you don’t have to pay for, just to get that number. However, as we all get upset when orders fall through, imagine how they feel if you cancel your order. You order on the 20th March without taking the time to make sure it’s the car you really want and can live with, then search online for reviews and owner feedback and then go out and test drive a few others, then go back on April 2nd and cancel your order, just because you can, how would your feel in the salesperson’s position?

December 26, 2023 at 11:48 pm #252412Would love to see the A4, CLA and the 3 series come back. It has been a while.
December 27, 2023 at 12:58 pm #2524364 days left til we get to see the 2024 Q1 prices, really hoping BMW, Audi and Merc make a change/return to the scheme, would be nice to have more ICE cars back with lower APs. The market really isn’t ideal for anyone that wants a luxury car but not willing to go electric as of yet.
The countdown begins…
December 27, 2023 at 1:16 pm #252437One change in procedure that I would like to see would be the publication of the new ‘next quarter’s’ Advance Payments at least five days before the end of the previous quarter. That would get rid of some of the worry if you were wondering whether to place an order today or hold on for a possible reduced AP in a few days time.
The current system creates a nervous lottery for people who are already coping daily with disability and can do without the extra stress.
Would it be workable?

Nice idea but I can’t see it getting too far. Dealerships will be fighting for targets, knowing their manufacturer has released next quarter’s pricing early and it’s all going down scuppers their chances of Motability orders. Although increases would help dealers.

December 27, 2023 at 1:29 pm #252440That’s a good point about targets Mark, but if Motability were to insist that manufacturers either publish new AP’s early, or agree to cancel orders that had been made in the previous week and place an immediate new order at the lower AP, then I think dealers might well prefer the first option.
The probability of course is that neither of these two options will become policy.
December 27, 2023 at 2:22 pm #252443I’d love to see Polestar go onto the list.
A Polestar 2, twin engine, long range, with a £2k AP please! ? Not a cat in hells chance unfortunately…?
C’mon Motability, you know you can do it, if you really want to…
Kind regards

I think that’s a very good idea. I can’t see it being a negative for dealers as for every winner, price wise, there’s often a loser, so it would balance out. It would also save them having to deal with cancelled orders and amended orders, such as when people place their order at the end of a quarter (just in case a car is removed or the AP increases) but then cancel if something better comes up next quarter – or ask the dealer to amend to the lower AP.
The biggest fly in the ointment is the fact that quarterly price changes aren’t really what they were back in the good old days when we had around 5 times as many cars on the scheme. Changes don’t just happen every 3 months. As we know from the excellent daily changes thread, cars come on and off the scheme on an almost daily basis and the quarter changes day can often be an anti-climax these days.

I actually wonder how many scheme users actually gamble and wait untill Q1, in the hope of better choice and lower AP’s.
That said the majority of dealers will apply the lower AP, should it be less.
