Good to see the Elegance and R-Line specs available in the Tiguan Allspace, albeit only the 1.5 petrol variants and, of course, it’s soon to be discontinued, so is effectively a run-out model. However, a decent size and well equipped, especially the Elegance

Like most cars you can turn off or lower the sensitivity of the over zealous safety aids. Not heard about the touchscreen or the ride lacking sophistication, having a sport suspension setup with active frequency dampers.

If the AWD joined, I’d drive to Birmingham the day it joined the scheme or the next day if the RWD joined lol.

Top Gear review are usually spot on

BYD isn’t there with chassis dynamics yet.

It feels softly sprung but doesn’t quite have the necessary damping control.

a lack of body control and a slightly scruffy ride

Too much road grumble comes back through the chassis at low speeds, the steering is distant and the damping is too loose to control vertical motion properly. It just doesn’t feel very cohesive

Even more intrusive, though, is its suite of active safety systems. ‘Yeah, yeah,’ we hear you say, ‘you always moan about these things’. But almost every rival implements them with more class, or certainly makes them simpler to turn off than the cumbersome trawl through tricky sub-menus required here.

You’ll get there in the end, but it’s not going to help you fall in love with the car.

                              WHAT’S THE VERDICT?

this is a car that lacks the charm or character to win your heart; and doesn’t quite stack up for the head either. Overall it’s a bit Beta.

i am just 7 months into a lease of a juke hybrid which is proving a good choice.

but looking forward i would like to see some sensible cars with sensible ap’s.

ideally but unfortunateley due to ee and uk regs impossible, far less computer interferance. the bings and bongs of big brother drive me mad. i have had 2 accidents in 43 years driving neither my fault and none of the bings and bongs would have prevented the accidents.

this time round the juke was pretty much the only car i could comfortably get in and out of in my price range and i am fortunate that i get wpms so the ap is a bit less and i get an auto grant of £660 from the veterans agency. so absolute max is £1400 ap.

the different shapes and windscreen slopes of small suv’s ruled out a lot of contenders.

then the ap of the likes of the countryman took them out. so i was left with the juke or larger cars like the qq,ateca etc the ap knocking a lot of them out.

i hope in 2 and a bit years the new countryman is on the scheme at a reasonable ap. or something new from left field.

merry christmas all and i hope the new year brings you the car to suit you at a good ap.

My Ioniq 6 Ultimate in Biophillic blue pearl with digital camera mirrors is on its side in a ditch somewhere according to the dealer. Ouch, I might be back on the hunt come January 1st.

So my wish is that Kia become more realistic with the AP for the Kia EV6 GT-Line.

? What a nightmare Pops. Sorry to hear that. Have you driven one with digital camera mirrors? Most reviews I read said to avoid them.

If you watch reviews where the reviewer has the car for several days and has driven plenty, then the camera mirrors are a positive change.  I’d argue that many of those providing a negative impression are doing so from the frustration of not looking in the right place.  Maybe more time to get used to a different position is essential to actually reviewing the capabilities of the digital image over the camera position?

Thanks Glos Guy and MF. I’ve driven both the Ioniq 5 and 6 with digital camera mirrors. They give a very clear high resolution image, but will take a lot of getting used to because of the relocated viewing position. I didn’t intend to order them but the colour I wanted is an unusual ‘minority choice’ and I was offered a  car that was supposedly being built that week in that colour, with the camera mirrors. The alternative was a factory build for delivery approximately late May.

Another reason for the camera choice on the Ioniq 6 is the fact that the twin screens placement is already built in to each end of the dash, and with standard mirrors you are left with two blanked spaces. The aircraft styled dash with its swept up ends look as though it needs the two lit up screens to complete it aesthetically. That’s just my opinion, having spent a fair bit of time sat in three different ‘6’s lol.

I question whether Top Gear have actually drove or even sat in the thing!

It doesn’t have the mid-speed pitching motion that plagues most of its Korean rivals. it’s impressively flat and quiet over coarse road surfaces. It equals the i4 – one of the few bigger EVs (aside from the premium-priced Porsche Taycan) that ride with true composure on practically any surface. The 2WD version is marginally the better of the two for suppleness. accurate and communicative steering, which we were able to investigate on a streaming wet handling track. Overall a composed ride.

Many of the Hyundai type warning bongs built into early models have been quelled and the ‘human’ voice that previously warned you about exceeding the speed limit has been muted.

ADAS aids can be turned off or their sensitivity reduced. I turn most of what I can off anyway.

The touchscreen is responsive, with perhaps too many sub menu’s however the ventillation controls are visable at the bottom of the screen. Every driven a Hyundai or Kia!

BYD itself is a massive company and isn’t new to the UK. In 2013, the BYD E6 taxi, was registered to green taxi firm, Green Tomato, BYD was also selling cars in Switzerland, France and Germany. European MD Isbrand Ho wanted a fleet of 2500 e6s.

The UK’s leading manufacturer of electric buses, the BYD ADL partnership have delivered fully electric BYD ADL Enviro400EV double deckers to London bus operator, Metroline, along with manufacturing them for other European countries. CATL has a similar partnership with EU’s top bus maker Solaris….

However BYD aren’t a premium manufacture like BMW, Merc etc.

Getting back on subject, if Motability are serious about their intention to push toward a majority EV car base they need to persuade manufacturers to agree to a more attractive “advanced payment” inducement for Motability lease customers.

Hyundai with the Ioniq’s and Skoda with the Enyaq have done this successfully, so now’s the time in quarters 1 and 2 2024 for more manufacturers to use the scheme sensibly to replace the reluctant private buyers.

                                                    I hope this happens soon.

I was in my local Kia dealership a few days ago and the Motability specialist was saying that they are expecting the APs for the EV6 to drop substantially in Q1 2024, we will soon see…

I really do hope so. It’s one car I like the look of.

Oh dear POPS. I wonder if it actually in a ditch or a novel exuse because it has been sold to a retail customer! The GT Line is more akin to the Ioniq premium and doesn’t have heatpump as standard!

I’m not backward in speaking my mind when needed keso. My first response to the dealership manager was “Is that sales speak for ‘we’ve just sold it to a private finance customer’ because we make more money on finance deals than Motability orders’ “? He denied it of course. I was then offered a curated silver ‘6’ with digital cam mirrors, that had “just come off the transporter that afternoon”. He said that his dealership would pay half (£500) towards the mirror if I agreed to change the order. That sounded reasonable until I realised when I went into see it that it was actually the same “new car” that I had test driven days earlier. (the clear plastic protective coverings had been ripped off and were still in the same place that the sales person stuffed them and the delivery sticker on the side window had the same serial number as I had photographed at the time). So it was more than a bit annoying that I had been given totally ‘wrong info’. At that point I cancelled my order.
