Kezo as I drove to Sheffield yesterday I realised the Sony 80K 50 inch is for me for the following reasons saw Tech Steve video against my beloved Qled 60B samsung the Sony blew it out of the water the picture was night and day ! Sony very good make and quality as you know I’ve always loved them parents had a triniton still going today ! The stand is adjustable 2 positions I love the youview Now that at Sevenoaks is a bargain be looking round I can get the 80k 50 inch around £600 with 5 year warranty ! I’m sorry but my lounge is very bright sun all day south facing till 7pm at night all summer I never shut the blinds love the sun so I’ve read an OLED isn’t for me
February 21, 2023 at 8:34 am #209932Mike, my Hisense is in a south room too. Big 3 sided bay window facing south, smaller windows facing east and west and we never close curtains. Plenty bright enough. The walls are painted dull red though so there’s no glare in the room.
February 21, 2023 at 8:36 am #209933What’s the difference between the x80k and the x81k?

Sony is percieved to be better quality and you pay a premium for that. Can you get better sets for the same sort money yes.
I don’t know how you watch TV in the summer or when the sun is low with out been blinded if you keep the binds open. My room is brighter than yours all day and Oleds fine and I think Ive just read Wigwan just said his room is south facing.
In terms of brightness the X80J/K is on par with the LG A2 Oled. They both score just an average 6.8 for standard dynamic range (SDR) brightness and are fine with a little bit of light. The A80J/K However, it isn’t good for watching movies or for gaming in dark rooms because it has a low contrast ratio and lacks a local dimming feature. HDR performance is also below average and only slightly better than the LG A2, although the A2 makes up fr it with its local dimming and contrast levels making for a better overall picture. HDR for reasons Ive said before is never brilliant on mainstream entry level sets.
SDR Brightness – most of what your be watching.
Real Scene Peak Brightness: A80k 302 cd/m² (nits) LG A2 309 cd/m² (nits)
Peak brigtness 50% Window: A80k 288 cd/m² (nits) LG A2 307 cd/m² (nits)
Peak brightness 100% Window: A80k 155 cd/m2 (nits) LG A2 168 cd/m2 (nits)
Sustained brightness 50% Window: A80k 284 cd/m2 (nits) LG A2 294 cd/m2 (nits)
Sustained brightness 1000% Window: A80k 152 cd/m2 (nits) LG A2 160 cd/m2 (nits)
There are 2%, 10% and 25% windows where similar results are seen but the A80k slightly pips the A2. However the main overall points are seen above.
In HDR the A80K just pips it with an average overall score of 7.4 against 6.9 for the LG. Howerver the overall picture quality is crisper and above all superior on the LG.
Pre calibration ~(quality of the picture) out of the box the LG beats it hand down with an overall score of 9.5, calibrated they are the same
Neither the A80K or A2 are perfect at low content smoothing as they don’t have the processors of higher end models.
Both handle reflections at above average.
As you can hopefully see on your device and from the pictures with 1080p they are as bright as each other with better highlights and contrast on the A2 especially when looking at the picture as a whole or at the buildings in the background. Darker scenes will be night and day against each other
LG A2
Sony A80k
Overall apart from better overall contrast on the A2 there is little difference in brightness. However if you are now saying you are watching TV with the blinds open in summer I can catagoricaly say neither of these will be brigt enough again’st the glare from the sun!
The Hisense A85h @wigwam has is much brighter than these and on par with the LG C2 at over 800 nits in some windows. Likewise you will have to go up a level if you prefer LCD or even better mini LED or an Oled with an EX panel.
Don’t believe everything you here about OLED times have moved on.

Picture wise nothing 🙂
February 21, 2023 at 11:19 am #209957Mike, my Hisense is in a south room too. Big 3 sided bay window facing south, smaller windows facing east and west and we never close curtains. Plenty bright enough. The walls are painted dull red though so there’s no glare in the room.
My TV is on the chimney breast with large windows facing both south east and west and like I have the sun all day in the lounge and the room is painted cream. The Hisense A85h is superior though to the ones above sharing the same panel as the C2. It just pips the C2on peak brightness.Personally I think its an excellent set especially at the price you paid when compared with the LG C2 considering its got the same display.
February 21, 2023 at 11:24 am #209958My advice to anyone with a bright south room is paint your walls a dark colour!

I wouldn’t say light cream forgot the name is dark, my parents lounge is white and like yours is a matt paint rather than gloss so will handle reflections well. Other than this colour has little to do with it.

Oh dear Mike lol.
Youtube is a different ball game and nothing to worry about there, as most video’s are shot in HD and 4k and TV’s have the appropiate codec’s anyway. So will be no different in reality.
I will speak later this evening if your on and put a guide up where who owns what in the TV world as youd be surprised and try and get some comparing between sets.
очень милая леди, посещающая глаз ? I worked in Russia for nearly 3yrs and 2yrs in Lativia in my 30s, and still speak to a few friends switching to Russian on my keyboard 🙂

ajnAll this is officially way beyond me?, I would simply buy a tv what I think is a reasonable price, size and name, and turn it on for the limited time I watch..
morning news, 6 nations, some football, snooker, rarely some films..
I use my phone mostly..
But it’s a great time for a basic upgrade I think at around 43”, anything else just would be added expense I feel..
great to see such enthusiasm though..
February 21, 2023 at 1:44 pm #209980Kezo sorry to go off subject but if CT scan shows nothing up is a MRI scan the next step ?
I’m certainly no doctor Mike and wouldn’t like to guess but a CT uses X rays and radio waves for a better quality than a standard Xray. Where Mri uses magnetic resonance imaging and radio waves as the name suggests. They are both used for different things, however an MRI is said to have a superior image quality
Other than that I know very little.

How far do you sit from your TV and where is the TV positioned in the room window and seating arangement.
TV’s start to see biggest reductions around the end of Feb and through out March as retailers want to make room for 2023 model year TV’s launched the end of March and begnning of April. Some Manufacturers launch their high end set later in the year but this is becoming less common. At the moment prices are fluctuating near their initial launch price and dropping to their lowest, and will soon settle. So its a case of keeping your eye open.
February 21, 2023 at 5:43 pm #209989Kezo I know what you are going to tell me tonight Sony TVs are now made in China ?,!!

February 22, 2023 at 11:49 am #210037Lovely afternoon Kezo are you ok ?
I’m fine other than a bit peed, as I typed up yesterday all the different TV manufactures and their involvment with the different manufacturers and other third party sources and it just vanished. By that I mean I was near finishing the last manufacturer on the list, went for a pee, made a drink, come back to finish and it had just vanished into thin air. Not amused 🙂
I will retype it on word later and copy nd paste it. At least that way it won’t vanish!
Did you manage to look up any videos yesterday or any further thoughts/questions 🙂
