War Pension Automatic gearbox grant

I know that as a War Pensioner, I can get a grant of up to £640 if I get an Automatic, this is normally worked out based on the price difference between the manual and auto version on the scheme.

Anyone had any experience of getting a grant it there isn’t an equivalent manual version to price against.

This is going to become the norm I guess as more vehicles go electric, but also currently, for example, the BMW X1 diesel is only on the auto box, as is the BMW 3 series?

      Thanks

My BMW X2 sport Petrol is an auto box and a fine one at that.

They either average it out based on the closest manual/auto matching vehicle in the range, or pay the maximum grant, (whichever is the lower). They are generally pretty fair with it though when there is no exact comparitor. Last time I got the full grant, when the closest ‘manual match’ was a about a grand less (I went for a diesel 4×4  automatic and the closest manual match was a same model diesel FWD).

If in doubt about the exact amount, e-mail Norcross, marked for the attention of the Supplementary Allowances Team who are very helpful. However with Norcross dropping into in Tier 4 from today, most Veterans-UK staff will be working from home again, hence it may take a little while to get a response..

ive had the grant twice now and only lost out this time because i changed early and you can only have one every 3 years. i was considering a bmw i3 as my change at lease end and spoke to mota to enquire and was told it would attract the full £640 grant as the ap at the time was £1300ish. as its electric there is no manual comparison so they must base it more on the ap. best bet is to ring mota and ask. they are very helpful. the grant team at mota will be the quickest route, its them that issue the grant etc on behalf of veterans agency, i did all my stuff through mota they sent me the initial form and once that was confirmed by veterans ive only had to deal with mota. saves a lot of time i am into year 2 of a reveiw with veterans and its still radio silence.
