VW receptionists worse than Doctors receptionist…

I have a VW Sharan 1.4 auto on the motability scheme. I checked the oil and it was very low so being a tight ‘arris I phoned my local VW dealer  to ask for a top up. I asked the female receptionist if I could  be put through to services but she insisted on knowing the problem first so I explained that I needed a top up as I was very low on oil.

Receptionist – “Is the oil light on”

      Me – “No”

Receptionist – “Oh dear, I’m afraid Motability won’t do it unless the light has come on.”

Me – “Can you please go and check your facts with your service department because if the light comes on it could already be too late and cause more damage.”

Receptionist – “There is no need, I know how motability works. They get funny if a disabled customer comes in asking for work to be done without a light on the dash showing up.  You could always book it in and pay for it yourself?

Me – “What?….You think we get these cars handed to us for free?

“I pay near on £300 a month for the privilege of having a new car sit on the driveway for the last 18 months of lockdown and you think I should pay your service charges?”

Receptionist – “Well it’s either that or wait until the light comes on. It’s up to you.”

Me – “Are you winding me up?

      Receptionist – “No, I’m not”.

Me – “I haven’t got time for this type of stupidity….. Cheerio.”

I phoned up another dealer, got through to the service department and was told I don’t need an appointment just bring it in and they will top it up.

They don’t lock ‘em all up….

      Please park between the lines

What if the light was on but the bulb was faulty and therefore appeared as if no light was on

Hhhhmmm the receptionist, hhhhmmm the phone…

I always try to email, that way question and answers can be retraced giving the mind time to think before replying, also can be helpful further down the line if in your case resulted in damage to the engine…

I don’t like using the phone at all…

Dom, this receptionist needs taking to task, both because of his/her obvious bias against Motability customers and because of his/her potentially dangerous advice. I would be speaking to the dealer principal who can get changes made. Obviously Motability would handle the matter too if you preferred.

Agreed. I recall that Motability customers have had similar issues with VW dealers over AdBlue top ups.

Wigwam – Is it today that you pick up the XC40?

                      Hi

I asked Motability if various checks on a car are covered between routine servicing.

                      Was told. Yes they are.

The servicing of a Motability car is down to the dealer, this includes but not limited to, all routine servicing, oil checks, brake fluid, screen wash and even Adblue. Any top ups needed of aforementioned are also covered. Just book the car in for a general health check.

Tyres can be looked after by kwik fit. checks, tread depth, pressure, damage, uneven wear and wheel nuts.

Only thing I’ll give my VW dealer credit for is that they have me a 1l bottle of oil for me to top it up.

Oh same with screen wash, it just gets billed to the Motability account on their side.
