My wife got this model from motabilty mid January. It was charging fine with octopus off peak. 8 days later flat battery in the morning. Car taken to  VW dealer and new 12v battery fitted. One week later same again and I started jumping it. Then that stopped working. Kept getting message hybrid system failure take to dealer. Had a look at ev forum and found out this is happening all over UK with 8.5  version. The car was at VW dealer for 3 days and today they told me car connot be repaired as this problem is known to VW and they are trying hard to update software for the 8.5 model It would appear  car is not going in to sleep mode when charging through the night and the battery cooling fan is constantly running draining the 12 v battery. They have returned the car saying I will need to charge it early evening when I am about in short bursts or get up at 2am if I want the cheap rate with octopus. Under no circumstances leave it on charge for 7 hours or the battery will be flat in the morning. They will be I touch when VW has found a solution. I have contacted motabilty and they have the full story and I have to keep them updated and they are raising it with VW.

Just my own opinion of course, but if it were me – hand on heart – I’d be returning the car and looking for something else. I just couldn’t be doing with all the faff, no matter how fond I was of the car. VW saying ‘We’ll be in touch if/when we find a fix’ would send me over the edge. What sort of attitude is that?

        Good luck whatever you decide.

Yes, I think you might be right. Have spoken to someone I know in VW. He has said get rid of it and go for the Tiguan same set up and engine but does  not have the problems of the golf. I will think about it over the weekend.

I’d be telling Motability its not fit for purpose and you want to change it! Based on what you were told by dealer, there  shouldn’t be a problem in doing so.

Thanks Kezo. I have said that. Your only speaking to the call handlers when you phone. It all logged and I am awaiting a reply from motabilty.
