In between launching the ex30 tiny SUV, Volvo have removed from the UK market the V60 Cross Country, V90 Cross Country, S90 Saloon, and XC40 PHEV.

Volvo state reduced sales and the move towards total electrification.

Volvo don’t know if they will walk away from the estate market, which used to be their biggest sellers

Estate cars used to be the best version of a ‘load lugger’ now there’s the SUV. the Utility Vehicle, the nearly van MVP replacement.   Modern vehicles are taller and, generally, heavier so there’s a lot of space

It does seem odd that at a point where the smallest Crossover EV they’ve released comes out the cars they’re removing are all big cars of various shapes.

The so-called zero-emission vehicles mandate is due to come into force from next January setting a minimum annual threshold for the proportion of all-electric vehicles each carmaker has to sell out to 2035 when all vehicles must be electric.

The mandate would set a level at 22 per cent for cars and 10 per cent for vans in 2024, rising sharply to 52 per cent and 46 per cent respectively by 2028. A ban on all petrol and diesel engined vehicles is then due to come into force in 2030, Manufacturers face heavy fines if these targets aren’t met, although manufacturers can buy green credits from other manufacturers to mitigate this, providing they have have met the target.

Because of this I don’t think Volvo will be alone by along shot removing their larger non BEV vehicles from sale in the UK.
