Hello All,
Greetings and Salutations. I would be most grateful for advice on whether anyone knows whether there is any possibility of Motability allowing someone to lease a vehicle that is “not on the Motability Scheme” or one which was recently taken off e.g. the VW Sharan? Has anyone actually been able to select a non-scheme vehicle due to their health and disability needs?
Many thanks. Mohammed.

Hi Mohammed
Not heard of anyone personally who have ordered a car not showing in the Motability search menu but I’ve heard it said that Motability might, and its a big might, let you order a car that’s higher up the trim level and not on the Motability because it breaks the AP limits as long as the base model of that trim is on Motability but you also must have a very, very good reason as to why you need the higher spec car.
As far as the VW Sharan is concerned reading the latest brochure published 11/05/2021 only the SE Nav is available to buy and only from stock so my guess is the car has been discontinued but surprised the SE Nav never remained on Motability until all the stock was sold, unless of course, all stock has been sold.
I’m due to order next month and with all the comings and goings it puts my head in a spin for sure so where all in the same boat I’m afraid to say.
Good luck with your searching.

I did try recently to get a higher spec car that was not on Motability but was unsuccessful.
June 17, 2021 at 12:49 pm #155495Hi Chris and John,
Thanks for your replies. I am very grateful.
Due to my health and disabilities I need a large vehicle with high seats, no big high central column (where the gear stick/control sits) as this hurts my left leg and knee.
Due to problems with my hands I need extra light steering.
Also an electronic parking brake and auto hold.
Also extra space in the second row with high seats and being able to stretch my legs/feet under the front seats.
I currently have a VW Touran. This meets all my needs save for that the seats are a bit low.
The Citroen Grand SpaceTourer is another one that meets most of my needs but the seats are even lower than the Touran.
The Sharan and Alhambra would have been perfect but at the time their steering was to heavy, but now Motability can arrange for the steering wheel to be lightened. But they have both come off the scheme…
I guess I’ll just have to wait and wish and hope for something like the VW T7 Multivan to come onto the scheme in the future or a large SUV…
Kindest regards.

June 17, 2021 at 1:42 pm #155498The Ford Galaxy and S-Max are still available on the scheme, they are almost identical in size to the Sharan
June 17, 2021 at 1:53 pm #155499Hi Noel,
Thanks for your message. Yes the Galaxy and S-Max were to of my list. They both met my needs BUT they have a huge Central column between the passenger and drivers seats.
In a previous 2010 model the central column was not too wide and high. But now it appears to be bigger and wider and when I sit in it my left leg and knee push up against the central column… I tried adjusting the seat but that didn’t help…
Kind regards.

I realise this forums a few months old but thought I would give you the information I found out
Due to production issues (global shortage of microchips being the main one) oh and some sort of global pandemic, VW has had to reduce production, because of this VW withdrew several models from the Motability scheme, since this decision was made production is ramping back up,It is plausible that the All the previous VW range (including Seat and Skoda models) will be returning to the Motability Scheme, the earliest date would be after the next Motability Sales quarter that will begin in October 2021,
Even retail customers can only currently order models like the Sharan that have been prebuilt
I have asked Motability to increase my lease time for another six months and hope that by then the Sharan will be available
The information was given to me off the record as it was not an official VW statement and any dates are subject to normality returning in some form or another e.g if VW have not increased production enough before October it could be January or even longer before the all the VW models will be available on Motability again.
I hope this will help some of you who are in the same position as me have already mentioned the Ford Galaxy is available and is a similar style and size, but theres a chance the Sharan will be available before the year is out (fingers crossed)
September 7, 2021 at 4:08 am #163635Hi Neil,
Many thanks for the detailed update. Thank you for finding out this information and for posting it. It gives me some hope that the Sharan and perhaps other large vehicles will return to the Scheme. It’s a bit depressing that so many vehicles are disappearing nearly every day. But I do understand that there is a pandemic and other factors in play.
A shame really that we are not allowed to select vehicles that are not on the Scheme but are pre-built and/or on dealer forecourts that are either new or nearly new (e.g. ex Motability vehicles).
Good luck to everyone and thanks again for update Neil.
Regards.

September 7, 2021 at 11:06 am #163678The VW Sharan and Seat Alhambra are now deceased, production has stopped. Sorry.
September 7, 2021 at 11:25 am #163680I have wondered with the massive hike in AP for the VW Touran SEL DSG we seen at the start of the year was due to that one being discontinued soon and yet its one of a very few MPV’s that has remained through the crises… or could be like myself I won’t pay over £3,000 AP for a car that is built on noughties technology.
September 8, 2021 at 2:19 am #163770Ah Well, too good to be true about the Sharan and Alhambra… Fingers crossed and wishing for either the VW ID BUZZ and/or VW Multivan to come onto the Scheme…
