£1249 AP on the scheme and £28000 to buy.

I have the use of one of these and thought my observations might be useful.  I know nothing technically about the car so have no particular expectations.  Also as I normally drive a Volvo XC40 PHEV which currently comes in around 455000, I try not to compare apples with oranges.

I like the look of it inside and out. The one I have is silver quartz and black roof which suits it.  It’s a well equipped car, the usual safety stuff, climate control, reverse camera and a satnav which finds locations competently using the key board on the touchscreen. There may be other ways…

First impressions are the ride is a bit hard and the seats aren’t the most comfortable for me.  The engine can be a bit strident when pushed too. But these are all forgivable for a car at the price.  The gearbox seems to be old-school automatic and not very well sorted. It wants to change up around 30 too soon and the engine slogs.  It’s a slow change too.

If anyone is interested in this model, I have it for a few days so can do any test and spend time looking it over.

Many autos even the dsg I had in the golf seem to change up too early, especilly if you say driving in traffic and then you need to accelerate from 30 to 40. One either has to kick down by pressing hard on the peddle(which is not good for me) of suffer the lagg.

This is why i prefer auto’s with paddles now as it’s so much easier to override the standard programing which i believe is to save emmisions, but actually uses more fuel and is less efficient in certain situations.

I recently bought a 1.4 mhev suzuki vitara szt, it was almost £25k but 0%apr although the newer 1.5 fhev is cheaper as it’s has an ags gearbox, not a full automatic and i was not impressed with that at all.

Must say overall for the money there’s only a couple of things I’d change, but in a few months i have got used to the way it works and for us is very liveable with.

The version i have you can only get on the scheme with a manual gearbox now.

took a journey with an old mate few weeks ago, he’s got a Vauxhall grandland, slightly bigger, if AP isn’t to expensive on change over might be my next choice..

i had a breif look in one when i went to look at the emokka, i was quite impressed with the interior, it would be an option if i decide to stay petrol.

but i still havent seen anything that jumps out at me, a very poor choice at the moment and huge waits.

i cant see the point in signing up for something just for the sake of having ordered, and then having a 12 month wait. i might as well extend for two years keep something i like and hope something else i like comes on the scheme.

Update on the car I had use of for a week:

I fixed the uncomfortable seat problem – it had lumber support pumped up. The bolsters on the backrest are a bit too firm for me, otherwise comfortable enough.

Interior is good, very roomy and quite traditional, scratchy plastic on the doors but good elsewhere for the class of car.  The top trim has every modern aid and trick, but not folding mirrors (I may be wrong there but they didn’t fold on locking).  Remote locking but key in the ignition to start.

Boot lid is manual and quite heavy to lift and to close but once in, the boot is big and deep.

Ride is a bit too hard but the trade off is the handling is good and steering is responsive and sharp.  I liked that when throwing the car around, it felt well planted and predictable.

For the money and clearly aimed at the traditional buyer, I think it’s a good family car.
