      Vat payable on extras?

If you add extras to a motabilty car order should VAT be charged on those extras? I added the “Winter Pack” which attracted VAT to be paid. If the car came with it at the initial model spec VAT would not be payable.

Hello Peter. You may find the following link useful. https://www.whichmobilitycar.co.uk/vat-free-disabled/

        Also this link https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/customer-declaration-for-zero-rated-vat-supply-of-an-adapted-motor-vehicle-vat1615a

        I hope that helps.

yes the vat releif is for adaptations needed for wheelshair access for things like hoists and roof boxes etc not extras like additional packs higher grade paint etc.

… and the adaptations need to be on the current Motability approved list, fitted by Motability approved dealers, and as per the Motability price list.  https://www.motability.co.uk/products/adaptations/adaptations-available/

Anything else which is dealer fitted will be charged with VAT being added – but only if/when Motability have agreed that the option can be fitted, and at the lessee’s cost.

Is that disabled discrimination to disabled people just because they are not in a wheelchair they still can be very disabled and struggle a lot .

                  why did they change it

If you read the list, there are many dozens of disability aids on there.

Maybe, Motability don’t consider that things like Special paint and ultra-low-profile tyres/wheels are a ‘necessity’ to warrant inclusion on the list.

However, when it comes to ‘winter packs’, I’m sure their response would be to look for an alternative vehicle where it is included.

                    Hardly discriminatory.
If it doesn’t suit – don’t join the scheme.
