Tyre faff!

So, I took my daughters motability car (Audi Q3) into Audi on Monday for an MoT, service, recall etc. and asked them to check the wheel alignment. Everything went well, including replacement new Q3 loan car.

When I picked her car up, I was told one of the tyres was at 2mm and needed to be replaced before the alignment could be checked. So yesterday I went to kwik fit to be told that the tyre was dangerous and the car got impounded on instruction from Motability until suitable replacement tyre is sourced which should be tomorrow.

Audi, Kwik fit and motability were all very helpful and even arranged a taxi home for me, but it’s hardly convenient! Kwik fit reckon Audi should have called out their mobile service to replace the tyre whilst it was in the garage.

Just a warning to others who may find themselves in this position…

Sounds like a nightmare and I would be none to happy to have the car taken off me simply because the number one tyre changing company in the UK has not got a new tyre to fit.

It’s not something a disabled driver can foresee and my experience of going to KF when the tyres look low on tread is to get the knock back and told to come back when I’ve got another 500 miles on the clock.

I assume you have one of those stupid cars that come with no spare.

It does have a space saver spare. I suppose I should have thought about that!

I have always had excellent service from my local Kwik Fit (maybe I’m lucky?). They did try to fit 2 Michelin tyres, but Motability insisted on Pirelli.

I now have my daughters car back with 2 new tyres and alignment done…

I would have the alignment checked at the dealer as I have watched krap fit do the tracking and I wouldn’t have wanted to drive that car after that, it came back in after 10 minutes as they hadn’t even tightened the adjuster nuts back up and it was all over the road as the guy announced loudly.

That was the original plan ! But with dealer being 45 miles away, not really convenient…

Remember that kwik fit offer a mobile tyre fitting service , so if it’s not convenient to go out to them they will come to you .

A problem we had many years with a WAV that Motability seem to impose a minimum tread depth before the tyre depot are allowed to replace them, if they replace them when there’s too much tread left they get in trouble……step in the mobile fitting service they don’t get the tyre tread depth checked.
Our tyres at the time were around 2.5 mm that to me is not a safe tread depth for wet weather motorway driving ! ????
