I will be the main driver for my partner. She has her heart on the Peugeot 2008 GT (petrol). Her quality of life would be much easier if I was driving so it would be nice to get a car as soon as possible. Unfortunately, this is the car she wants and that is not a winnable battle for me to fight. lol
I passed my test yesterday and its looking like if we want an in “stock” car I will need to travel around 2 hours on a motorway. Some people think its not a big deal since I have passed my test so I can drive and others think its irresponsible to drive not only a new car but also drive on the motorway without driving independently on normal roads for a while. I don’t mind and think it shouldn’t be that much different than 60mph dual carriageways I have been on.
Would you? Its a 1.2 engine so its not like I’m picking up a top of the range fast car.

Congrats BTW!
How confident are you?
Remember a motorway requires alot more concentration, with highspeed traffic, tedious roads and you can become overloaded with information quickly, with no where to stop untill a services or next junction!
Its worth remembering, for every motorway route, there’s an A & B road which may take a little longer but, its easier to pull over in a layby or at the side of the road somewhere and can be alot less stressful, especially for a new driver and itseasier to go at your own pace.
Within a week of passing my test I travelled from north Staffordshire to Banbury on motorways but, there was alot less traffic about then!
Obviously you have passed your test, so your perfectly legal to go whichever way you want.
Is there a experienced driver that can come with you and navigate th motorways or choose to travel at quite times.
March 28, 2025 at 9:18 pm #300227Thanks for the advice. Yeah I think the option of me driving is the last resort. I still have a few dealers to call that are more local. I’m just not sure how urgent it is for me to get it all ordered before the 1st. I don’t fully understand how it all works but sounds like I could end up paying a lot more if I wait until after, especially since the market is showing that petrol cars are increasing in price and electric is going down.
If its not too difficult to add someone as a temp driver we might be able to get one of her family members to pick the car up which would make it easier.
March 28, 2025 at 10:02 pm #300228Many congrats on passing your test. Statistically, motorways are the safest roads. Most accidents happen in 30mph zones. However, as @kezo says, it all depends on your confidence levels. When my daughters passed their driving tests I paid for them both to have a one hour lesson on the motorway with their instructor. I would advise doing that if you are contemplating travelling 2 hours to then drive a brand new unfamiliar car home again.
In your situation I’d probably wait a tiny bit longer and order one locally, just to remove the worry. The fact that you are asking the question says to me that it’s a worry you could do without. Also, have you test driven one? It’s all very well her loving it, but if you are going to be driving it you need to be happy with it as well. There have been too many examples on this forum over the years of people ordering cars in haste and regretting it later.
Re your comment about prices. Nobody knows what will happen next week. If it follows the pattern of the last few years, some cars will be removed, some new ones may be added, many advance payment prices will increase but some others will fall. Overall, I suspect that the overall trajectory will be upwards, including EVs. If you are dead set on a specific car, the best bet is to say to the dealer that if you order the car this quarter (latest Monday) but the advance payment drops the next day, you want them to adjust the price on the Motability system to the lower price. It’s a 2 minute admin job and doesn’t affect the actual order itself. 90% of dealers will agree to this. If they don’t order from another dealer who will. It’s always better to do this than wait for the next quarter prices, as in the worst case scenario the car may be removed from the scheme and you can’t then order it at all. You are also protected from any price increase. Also, if you order and a better car appears next quarter you can always cancel and re-order. Good luck.
March 29, 2025 at 6:50 am #300234Well done on getting your licence.
Motorway driving is different and I am sure you will be more up to speed with the regulations than myself. Don’t ever feel pressured by others, drive your own drive and let others worry about their drive. If you get me.
Personally, if you are familiar with the roads, I would just do it, calmly. Such freedom, I hope you have many years of enjoyment ahead.

Congratulations on passing your driving test I bet you are all excited, our friends have the 1.2 engine in the Citreon C4 they love it, if you don not feel 100% confident you could always take an experienced drive with you, plus they can always advise when the salesman starts giving out the bull, they will promise the earth just to get your signature.
In the small print it will tell you you are committed, this is standard practice, however you are a Motability customer your are not committed until you input your PIN code.

Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally I get confused and often say the wrong thing.
March 29, 2025 at 5:37 pm #300280I have decided to just order one locally. Looks like it will be factory and they said end of May. I haven’t test drove one but been in the car and checked it out. I was under the impression that almost all dealers wont let me test drive because I haven’t had my licence for over a year. I will try and get a quick test drive but I also only have my paper test pass certificate too.
I’m going on Monday to order the car to get everything locked in before 1st April. Sounds like I wont suffer any penalty if I cancel from what people have said on this forum.

Good call. Yes, you can cancel at any time prior to inputting the PIN on collection day with no penalty. Don’t agree to pay any deposit or the advance payment (AP) until the day you collect, as that makes it easier. Also say to them that if the AP drops you’d expect them to change it. If the AP drops on 1st April, ask the dealer to amend it on the Motability order system. If they play silly buggers and refuse, cancel and order from another dealership. Good luck.
March 30, 2025 at 2:01 pm #300316Thanks for the advice. I just hope they aren’t saying May and then when May come along they delay. I’m not sure if it sounds realistic for a factory car ordered in a the next few days to be delivered by May but guess I have no reason to think otherwise.
March 30, 2025 at 4:40 pm #300320When you order ask:
If they have allocated build slots available immediately you could put your name tme to
If they have any allready in the pipeline you could put your name to
If there are any allocated to other dealers or canceations in the system you could put your name to
Often dealers take and sit on a order untill they have next available slots to place an order. This can mean dealers can sit on an order for upto 3 months before allocating a build slot with the factory, hence asking the questions above proove you have some understanding of how the system works and less chance to be fobbed off.
Recently Stellantis brought dealerships under their umbrella called Stellantis and You, covering all group whils’t third party stand alone dealers still, you are better ordering from a Stellantis and You dealership, as these have prioty over third party dealers, as they are owned by the the group rather than private.
Due to Peugeot’s iCockpit, I strongly recommend you take a test drive or at very least spend some time in the drivers seat with the engine on, to ensure you can easily see the dials over the steering wheel, as its design is not suitable for everyone!
Also remember, you as the driver has also got to feel comfortable, its not all about looks or what the non driver wants!
April 1, 2025 at 9:20 am #300402Thanks! Ordered it yesterday. Said there were 30+ already on the way and he will try and snipe one and should know within 48 hours. He believed it was a very high chance. If done should receive in May.
Unfortunately, I didn’t turn the engine on when I sat in it. I’m only 5 foot 8 but I do like to sit high by adjusting the seat position so I do believe I will be ok. The whole “turning the engine on” was something I totally overlooked. I would think there would be some flexibility by adjusting the steering wheel/seat worse case.
