The death of TV

There used to be a time when tv was a major thing for me and i suspect many others too. I knew exactly what time and day my fav tv programs were on etc. Nowadays my tv sits in the corner gathering dust because i get all of my entertainment from the the internet on my laptop, tablet & phone. Effectively the internet has killed off tv.  I cannot even remember when i last switched my tv on.

The wife and i have both agreed that £159 for a tv license can no longer be justified so when our current one expires (i think January?) we are not going to renew.

My tv (Samsung 65in) is pretty new and was purchased only a year ago and with hindsight i don’t know what possessed me to buy it. Actually yes i do . . . Richer Sounds were having a big sale at the time.

I’ll miss watching big sporting events on the large screen but other than that its not gonna be a big loss.

      Does anyone still watch tv?

Not watched normal TV for over a decade.  I have access to Amazon and Netflix etc. through my kids accounts.  There are some US and Australian shows I watch but those are also available on the net.

I bought a new 55″ LG earlier this year, gets used for the above and as a PC monitor.  Recently I’ve been using my laptop instead during the day to keep the electricity charges down.  I have music on almost all day but have stopped using the PC for that and just use bluetooth from my mobile into a small hub and into my amp, saves a fair bit of money over time 🙂

Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!

We have a Samsung UE55JS9000 bought in 2016 coupled up to a Denon / Monitor Audio AV system. Great picture and sound BUT having got the itch to buy a LG OLED65G36LA (thanks to Richer Sounds!).

But only watch evening TV, spend more time on my Razer Laptop – Get Prime etc on it.

Do I need it No. Do I want it? (bit like asking a kid at Xmas) Oh hum.

You can get the Now tv app either on your TV or Firestick and subscribe for a month when there’s something you want to watch. I’m watching less and less tv. I enjoy YouTube, probably watch more than I do tv.

Dont and wont pay for subscriptions to anything, all they are interested in is the cash in your pocket.

Even Youtube has been spoiled they have started with a premium channel that costs muney otherwise you have bleedin adverts.

The G3 is brighter due to its micro array lens technology but, you can get the G2 £800 cheaper. Its no slouch and will still blow your Sammy out the water 🙂

Edit I have had the G1 for a couple of years now and mainly use a jailbreaked firestick.

Like many of you have said, I find I am watching less and less tv and more youtube, but I  love watching Scottish football on tv which I have had to have all four different lots to watch all the competitions in high quality. Sky, TNT, Viaplay and my team’s streaming channel. Some of which are included in my top package.

I do object to youtube now showing adverts, so I don’t know what i will do with that one.
