The new 5008 and e5008 have today come on the scheme. I was optimistic as the 157kW GT 73kWh 5dr auto e3008 is £1,299 AP. So was hoping it would be around a similar price but no, it is £4,699 AP. This is simply too much for me.

Cheapest NEW e3008 on Autotrader = £45k

Cheapest NEW e5008 on Autotrader = £48.5k

I could understand maybe a £2,500 AP or something but the £3,300 MORE AP in my opinion is too much. Perhaps I am being bitter? As I am now financially worse off this time ordering to last.

 

Honestly don’t know now what to do now, 310 range, albeit a bit less is good for me. The other electric 7 seaters can not offer that. Would I be within my right to speak to the grants team or not? We want to ge electric you see.

Any advice would be taken on board, just a bit gutted because I did honestly think the AP would be reasonable. Thought I would share my views on here.

The grants team ignore fuel in their decision making, so needing a grant because it’s electric won’t get you anywhere it’ll need to fit the list of needs and still show as good value.

Do you specifically need 7 seats?

Saw a video just this week on a Dacia Jogger. It is very frugal for a hybrid. Seems good value for those who need 7 seats occasionally.

I’d forget the claimed 310 mile range, it won’t manage that and you won’t do that in one trip without a break so that’s when you’d recharge. Have a look at what the other 7 seaters offer in term of price, spec and comfort or wait till January and 🤞

Looking at the options on the scheme you’ve 2 Stellantis mini van type in the Citroen and Vauxhall each with a 50kWh (ish) battery which isn’t getting much beyond 150 miles in a vehicle of that size.

The 5008 is,  at least, a proper car with 7 seats.  The 73kWh hour battery should be good enough for 225-250 miles depending upon driving style.  The issue all 7 seat SUVs have is they won’t cut a smooth line through the air, this one had the aerodynamics of a trimmed house brick.

Yeah, we need 7 seats due to 6 family members.

Will have to stick with petrol again I guess though, the range on the other electric cars is too short. the 310 claimed (240ish real?) would be enough. We do regular medium ranged drives.

From experience if I can have a car capable of 250ish miles in real life it’ll go twice as far as my bladder allows.  That means I can give the car a brief boost while having a comfort stop and continue on without concern.  By the time the range is getting close to half way, I’m getting close to a second stop or we’re not from from destination.  Either way, we’ve enough to sort out a charge without stress.  In a car that just about manages 120 miles, the experience is very different.  You’re planning each step of the journey on range and you’re bladder is pretty much in agreement.  The stops are longer because you’re not boosting but putting in a good sub20% to 80% each time and it all becomes something of an effort.

 

For example, I went from home (Cornwall) around London and home again, stopping a total of 5 times, charging a total of 3.  If I’d have done what I said above, I’d have charged 4 times as the destination stop didn’t have charging.  One stop would have been slightly longer as it would have been a little more than a boost but still not a full charge.  I thought about range only nearing the first charge and that was by design, I wanted to go as far as I felt comfortable which was 243 miles to Fleet services in Hampshire.  I could easily have charged elsewhere and the Fleet stop would have been half as long.

They’ve priced it so it’s on the scheme but minimises orders for now until they get production up. You see this often with new cars on the scheme priced high then they come down even more so if retail sales don’t go up immediately.

Trouble is there’s so few 7 eaters on the scheme, other than the berlingo, combo, erifter trip none are particularly affordable.

Are all 6 people in your immediate household. If not say parent that lives nearby the grants team won’t include them in a grant application.

You can argue fuel type to grants, I know because I did. If you have a genuine reason for electric like mine is that I don’t get painful hands driving an EV as you don’t get the engine vibration thru the wheel. They were happy enough to agree a grant for a 85x Enyaq sportline Plus.
