AnonymousSeems to me there are two ways of choosing one’s next Motability car.
The @Menorca Mike way (which is the correct way) where a thorough and extended test drive is required.
And then there is the Gee way (definitely not the correct way) where i look at pics of a car that i like then at the appropriate time i call the Dealership and tell them ‘That’s the one for me!”
The next interaction with the Motability Sales Executive will be hand back / collection day.
All things considered The ‘Gee’ method has worked out ok for my last two Motability cars but i’m guessing that’s got more to do with luck than anything else.
Good job @Menorca Mike ?

Do you currently have the CHR or Yaris can’t remember. If memory serves me right is it the cross your thinking of?
October 22, 2023 at 10:33 am #239548Morning Kezo I currently have a Chr I was thinking of the Yaris cross but it’s slow and noisy say reviews the Yaris hatch is quicker and I love the looks and with the £750 off the Yaris excel with all the goodies is nil deposit ! Yes it’s lower but I had seat in highest position in showroom last week and I was fine getting in and out ! Kezo are you good at maths ? I want to ask ev questions but I think everyone’s fed up with them just trying to compare running costs

I’m not going to big me up and say such a thing but, what EV question do you have and I’ll answer it 🙂
October 22, 2023 at 10:47 am #239551If this is any help?, roughly, 200 miles would be,
Petrol 40mpg £35
Hybrid 60mpg £23
BEV @3.7miles per kWh £4.05 (Octopus 7.5p/KwH)
Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!

You pull the cable out take it to car do I have to set it on screen in car or on my phone or can I just charge it say 9 hours over night ? I cannot move my fingers do I have to wind cable in and wrap round holder on wall like a hosepipe or does it have button ie self winding? I do 8000 miles a year longest 80 miles to my girlfriend and 80 miles back motorway 70 mph I put in £100 month petrol will an Ev over 3 years save me over £3000 ? Motability say I can order anytime before lease ends March so I can see January new prices ! I’m sorry for all these questions my neighbour across road has a Tesla 3 so he is all for Ev !!
October 22, 2023 at 11:00 am #239556Wonderful, honestly 🙁
Council came out to see where I want the gully and said should be OK but have to fix the path as well (not at my expense!).
No reply from the housing manager this week after her saying she’d look into it (surprise!).
Nothing from Ohme after they said they can’t do it.
As soon as the gully is fitted I’ll get back onto Kerbocharge and see if they’ll try kicking them. I got an email from Kerbocharge and it showed the other installations in Durham had gone ahead ok.

Ohme come with 5m or 8m cable on their tehered charger. With Ohmes untethered charger its possible to get a shorter length of 10ft (3m) you could ask for a shorter length. Essentially you could leave the cable plugged into a untehered charger and leave the cable layed out across the side of your drive with a waterprof cap fitted or have you neice’s husband to hammer a small post in the soild and attatch the socket that comes with the charger to the post and your cable plugged into that at waist height. That way would avoid having the need to coil the cable up. Can you post a pic of your meter cupbard and front of your property where your car will be charged in relation to your meter cupboard/shed.
Compared to putting £3600 in petrol over 3yrs. Lets make it easy for now when comparing to a EV. For example if your EV had an 100kWh and travelled 300 miles on a full charge and Octopus Intelligent at 7.5p per kWh –
100 x o.075 = £7.50 to travel 300miles over 3600 miles (3yrs) the cost would be £7.50 x 12 = £90 on average based on current rates, charging at home which you will do.
Add an extra £50-£80 to cover colder month driving your looking at most £200 compared to what you pay in petrol is cheap running and if I’m honest your a prime candidate for an EV and something you should really be considering mate 🙂
Name me a EV you have considered and work the costs out for you 🙂

Chuffed its moving forward albeit at a slow pace but I wouldn’t expect anything other TBH.
Have the council give you an indication when they will give a definate yes and installation will start?
Do keep on at your council every 14days or so! Once thats in place I expect the rest will run more smoothly.
Keep me posted 🙂
October 22, 2023 at 12:17 pm #239578Many thanks Kezo will put photos on later a Kia Niro 2 or 3 ev the 2 is £495 and the 3 is £1995 but lots more equipment I think they will come down January motability phoned me 3 times asking if I want electric ! Yes I thought Niro was noisy but there isn’t much in it compared to my Chr ! So how much total in £££s on the above would I save in 3 years ?
October 22, 2023 at 12:27 pm #239580
I’m really not enjoying this Yaris Cross ? I think if they’d put in some sound proofing then perhaps you’d not hear the engine straining away every time you jab the go pedal.
"Come on BYD Seal!"October 22, 2023 at 12:53 pm #239582Many thanks Kezo will put photos on later a Kia Niro 2 or 3 ev the 2 is £495 and the 3 is £1995 but lots more equipment I think they will come down January motability phoned me 3 times asking if I want electric ! The Niro has a 64.8kWh battery. To calculate cost to charge to 100% you multiply the battery size x electricity cost per kWh (0.075).
64.8 x 0.075 = £4.86 to charger
Kia claim 287 miles from a full charge so 3600/287*4.86 = £61
So theoretically it will cost you £61 over 3yrs at 100 miles per week.
In the real word it will average out at around 260 mile’s per full tank of juice because, as we know with petrol cars WLTP figurers arent accurate. Based on this and charging from home you will have change from £100 🙂
*There is another way of calculating based on miles per Kwh (mpkWh) you get but, its not woth going into now and the majority of time you will be charging up to 80 to 90%.
There are othe EV’s on the scheme with a similar range that are equally as good if not better 🙂

October 22, 2023 at 1:47 pm #239588Yes Niro real range 255 say what car
October 22, 2023 at 2:14 pm #239593Yes Niro real range 255 say what car
Do remember motoring journo’s don’t get the best effeciency out of cars, so class that as worse case scenario.
@MFillingham I’m sure will be kind enough to give your a more realistic range from the database he uses 🙂October 22, 2023 at 2:20 pm #239595Yes Niro real range 255 say what car

Driving Electric says – “We even saw it return an impressive 4.2 miles per kWh after one trip, so if you keep the Niro EV out of sport mode and utilise the regenerative braking, you should cover close to 270 miles on a charge.”
Thats the key Mike, making use of all the variables available to you 🙂
Lets see what the boss says and he can check my figurers ?
October 22, 2023 at 3:21 pm #239602The original Niro and Kona were capable of returning the WTLP figures and, in the height of summer, even exceeding them.
The current crop are a little less efficient but will still be very close to the given range.
EV database says:
