I got that email too, Alan. Quite promising in that, further on, it seems to promise that Tesco would try to help vulnerable folks who are NOT on the govt list. Will obviously take some extensive digging through the company records, but will be good news for many.

Tharg I’m not on the government list,( I’m in Scotland) but after calling Tesco and after being asked a few questions about my health conditions, age, and family situation they have put me on their priority list. Unfortunately this could lead to abuse by non-disabled customers so I hope they police it well. Having worked for Tesco before I retired 10 years ago I regularly had to disprove customers claims that they warranted a Christmas delivery slot which were highly valued.  I hope that the demographics supermarkets hold are used to help keep priority slots available to those who really need them.

I’m in Glasgow and the service from Tesco was second to none even provided hand sanitiser that was not a available but gave it to me free as I left the store as there was a supply for staff/drivers and I could have shed a few tears with elation and I did show my gratitude as I always do when shopping there ?

I don’t know about Tesco (I’ve never used their Delivery Service) but I have to give Waitrose a shout today.

Everything I had ordered was delivered this morning (not even any substitutions for the first time in weeks) – except for half the milk.  I rang their Customer Services department and explained that it was missing and, having checked the delivery lorry, they realised the missing milk had not even been dispatched from the Store.

Now, I was just expecting an apology and a refund – plus, maybe a ‘£5 off next shop’ code as compensation.  But, instead, they instructed the delivery driver to return to the Store asap, where he picked up the ‘missing’ milk and then drove back and delivered it along with an apology.

I didn’t even have to play the ‘Disabled and self-isolating’ Card.

Not quite as good as three years ago, though, when they missed a bag of our Christmas Shopping delivery, went back, picked up the bag, brought it over and then also gave us SIX bottles of wine as an apology.

Shame I don’t like wine.  DH was happy, though!

Glad to hear Waitrose are delivering the goods, Georgie. Wish I could get a chance to find out! Before the viral terrors, I used to go to local Waitrose two or three times a week; really like their quality and, sometimes, slightly eccentric choice of stock (marvellous art-deco cauliflowers). Their staff are always delightfully friendly and helpful. Despite Madam T being on govt list, been unable to get on the priority delivery list. Promised that this will happen next week. So, living in hope and trying not to run out of their coffee beans before then!

I really hope you get onto their delivery list, Tharg.  We’ve been using their on-line shopping service for years  and were horrified when they stopped becoming available.

Waitrose own-brand Instant decaf. is my ‘go to’ coffee, but by the time it gets to Wednesday it’s always Out Of Stock and doesn’t come in again until Saturday.  Our Delivery Day is Friday.

We do have many, many ‘proper’ coffee making devices but a) it all takes too long to brew and b) there’s always a lot of washing up to do after wards.  The ‘one cup’ Espresso machine is now lurking at the back of the corner cupboard behind the Christmas food storage tins, and it seems I now have NO IDEA where the chemistry set – sorry, I mean the Boden ‘Pebo vacuum’ coffee maker – has got to because what I thought was its box is actually the Racklette Grille set.  I can only conclude that it has made its way upstairs into the junk room.  The bean grinder is now a kitchen ornament!

Back when I could still drink T. of H. ‘Hot Java Lava’ and ‘Lazy Sunday’ we had a really good filter coffee maker which dribbled the coffee into a big thermos-type jug that kept it lovely and hot without needing a hot plate, but it broke eventually 🙁 and they don’t make them like that any more.

We tried two or three others at the time, but they could never seem to make it strong enough.

Besides, it’s not worth all the effort now just for decaf.  Part of the pleasure of freshly brewed coffee was that first ‘caffeine kick’.  Even the ‘Lazy Sunday’ was enough to give me a bit of a buzz. 🙂

I know it’s an expensive luxury but we have a Delonghi bean-to-cup device. Well, I don’t (can’t) drink alcohol and have few other vices (OK, I sometimes make really immoral, creamy, chocolatey desserts) so I reckon I can indulge meself with good coffee. The machine is pretty easy and only needs a proper clean about once a month. Put beans in one side, water in the other, press button, get cup of espresso. Drink as is or make americano, or froth up milk with steam nozzle, whatever you like. Tip away spent coffee grounds once a day (not messy) and fill up with water.

Will also make de-caff from ground coffee.  Very happy with it, if sometimes over stimulated!

Delonghi bean-to-cup – pretty substantial piece of kit you have there, Tharg.

I used to use the steamy milk frother to make hot chocolate.  Never miss the chance to make hot chocolate.

Which reminds me – Tell me more about these “really immoral, creamy, chocolatey desserts . . .

Well, maybe not or I’ll just want them and, having had a brush with pre-diabetes in 2018, I try to limit my sweetie intake to Fridays, High Days and Holidays.   But “Oh!” for Praline (I LOVE PRALINE), Toblerone, Belgian Chocolate ice cream, Belgian chocolate anything . . .

Which is doubtless why I had that brush with pre-diabetes, of course.

Nom Nom Nom  (Oh dear.  I’m now ‘air-eating’ chocolate)

Can’t beat bean to cup coffee.  We use lavazza beans. And cafe rosa decaf.

Georgie – “immoral” recipies include tiramisu (lots of freshly grated chocolate Belgique) and Sachertorte (Viennese mega-chocolate cake) and GU Chocolate Souffle (bought from Waitrose, lazy) plus ice cream AND clotted cream (bordering illegal). Recipes too long to put here; will try to find site – tricky since I make up some bits and amend others.

Now, as a chocolate-wrangler AND a Waitrose customer, have you tried their “Grom” ice cream? Best ice cream ever. Hideously expensive but as a special treat, well worth it.The chocolate variety has small solid lumps of plain chocolate lurking inside. You WILL go to hell if you eat it, but you won’t care!
