At last I was able to clear GPF warning on kia sportage. My warning light came on again 2weeks ago the last time I had to get a forced regeneration so for a fortnight I’ve been driving around unsuccessfully trying to clear my vehicle is due first service next week so thought let them deal with it again but yesterday had chance to drive on motorway at 4 in morning giving me a clear road to follow the procedure so drove constantly in 3rd gear going up to 4000rpm then taking foot off accelerator for around 6 seconds then back up to 4000rpm and kept repeating always in 3rd gear it cleared after about 15miles. Definitely need a clear road as I found it quite dangerous when trying during the day with traffic around.

Glad you’ve got it sorted, but I’d be worried that the dreaded light is going to return again soon.

I wonder what sort of fuel consumption was recorded during this 15 mile remedy!?

My Sportage gpf light came back on for a third time, literally weeks after a complete forced regen. After speaking to Kia and explaining that I had neither time nor inclination for regular pointless motorway journeys in which I have to drive the car in a particular (and frankly dangerous) way I was told to contact motability and ask to change car. Thankfully motability were amazing so I am back to looking at endless car reviews to find something suitable.

The Sportage has been something of a nightmare due to this gpf exhaust issue.

As I have said before 29 months in with our sportage mhev auto and ppf filter is only twice in that time, yes all short journeys not all cars are having big issues with it, have seen on other forums and other manufacturers are having the same issue. To us don’t see it as a big problem and love our sportage

Mine has been on twice in a year could probably put up with that for another 2 years as it is a great car apart from the ppf issue. I fully understand the ppf issue is not for everyone as I have not got off street parking to have a home charger I’d be looking for a hybrid for next vehicle.

Whenever you google ppf/gpf issues it only ever seems to bring results for the Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tuscon and in vast abundance too. This is due to an inherent design flaw as no petrol car should require long motorway journeys like a Diesel DPF. Presumably this is why Kia are releasing an updated model soon. Mine clogs every few weeks and has been a complete and utter nightmare to deal with.

It’s unfortunate as it is an amazing car in all other respects.

You don’t need a quite motorway or high rpm, rather allow the car to slow down naturally or use of the gears, to allow engine breaking is all thats needed. Using a mix of E5/E10 also helps if you do short journeys.

Because of the forever tighter emmissions controls GDI engines have become increasingly popular with manufacturers over port injection, which brings its own sets of issues. Both Hyundai/Kia use GDI engines.
