Hi there, my sister also has a motability car, someone today dangerously overtook her to go in front, she then needed to reverse, when she did this as she was in panic she didn’t realise a car was behind her so she drove into the car

Motability insurance currently closed tomorrow so she’ll call them tomorrow, I’ve never been involved in an accident so I haven’t got much experience in this hence why I’m coming to ask some questions here

the guy said he’ll take it to the garage and they’re quoting him £380 (the person who’s car got damaged) she said she wants to do it through insurance and he’s saying now it’s too late as he’s already taken it to a garage, is this true? I’m assuming not

also, as my sister is over 25 I know the fee is £100, is that all she has to pay or will it also involve paying motability insurance more?

      thank you for the help

It’s never a nice experience being in a bump, my sympathy to your sister. £100 excess is correct. It’s simply a case of passing on the details to RSA Motability phone line, they will take the circumstances, registration of the other party and any potential witness details.

In terms of third party repairs outside of insurance cover that is entirely at the whim of the other party, however, this does not dictate how your sister proceeds. She is more than within her rights to proceed through her own insurance (RSA) and have them take care of everything, ignoring the other party is advisable if they’re insisting on money for repairs.

Lastly, how did anything seem off? I only ask because the situation seems a little set up. Any connection between the vehicle ahead and the car hit behind? Could be entirely accidental but the swerve in front and reverse is a common scam, typically pressured to go outside of insurance for fast cash settlement. Usually an older vehicle used for the scam too. Anyway, it’s just the £100 and letting RSA do their thing, hope that helps.

Ignore the other drivers demands, let RSA deal with it all, just give them the registration number of the vehicle involved..and address if you have it . Do not have any more dealing with the other driver .

thanks guys I appreciate the fast replies, means a lot

Tim, who knows that could be the case but I think my sister was in shock the way the person overtook and put it into reverse, if she was calm she would’ve just gone forward and not hit the person behind
