Car is in for it’s MOT today.
Just got the service report, unbeleivable !
Immediate Attention
Near side front suspension arm ball joint worn – £138.30
Off side fromt suspension arm defective ??? – £305.16
Attention in near futore
Off side front tyre 3mm 3mm 3mm – Well it is 3ys old with almost 16,000 miles on it
Nearside front tyre 3mm 3mm 3mm ??? – This I doubt as it’s only 6 months old with no more than 2000 miles on it
They want £231 each for the tyres !!!!
Near side front shock absorber leaking – £174.18
So, for a 3yr old car that’s never been in an accident etc. it needs £1079 worth of parts????
Even taking the tyres out it’s still £617 😮
Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!

Are they even allowed to put tyres on it, surely thats Kwik Fit’s role.
Other than that, for there to be so much wear on a car with 16k on it. Where and how do you drive it ??

Is that with the main dealer? What’s the chances it would pass if you took it to a small independent MOT test station. I think the repair costs would certainly be cheaper.

June 28, 2023 at 12:00 pm #224534My Peugeot 3008 had a software update yesterday and they did a full health check at the same time …. The service manager told me it was 100% okay, and the check list showed a repair and replacement figure of nil pounds! What a nice man, lol. It’s two years three months old and has done 12,000 miles.
June 28, 2023 at 12:08 pm #224535Defective arm & leaking shock at 16,000 miles = warranty surely.
In life, it's not who you know that's important, it's how your wife found out.

A defective control arm typically means there’s a bad ball joint or worn control arm bushings.
Whats interesting is you would almost definately feel the consequencies of these failing to some degree, such as – cluncking noises, steering wander, uneven tyre wear and vibrations. Yet the serverce dept, have not mentioned no signs of uneven tyre, or have you mentioned any of the above signs especially that of a failed ball joint clunking noise?
June 28, 2023 at 12:23 pm #224538Well, quick call to Motability, Motability to Garage then Garage to me, all items are now only advisories ??
Suspension etc. can wait until it’s next service which will be some time next year, so I can drive around with one defective suspension arm and one with a worn ball joint and a leaky shock absorber for a year apparently!. Don’t know what Motability said to them but car is back and it’s had a quick wash!. I checked the new tyre, I got 5mm on it in 3 different readings.
As it stands Motability has officialy extended my lease to 2025 so just keeping an eye out for something I can fit in, that I can afford and that doesn’t have the risk of catching fire like the Kuga I cancelled ??
Good job I’m not stressed about it, I’m seeing the heart failure team at 2pm ?
Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!
June 28, 2023 at 12:34 pm #224542dealer were trying to pull one it sounds like to me, I would 100% query that with motability as I would not want to drive around with a leaky shock or a worn ball joint… you should ask motability to clarify.
June 28, 2023 at 12:44 pm #224543Our 3 service MOT in May 18,000 miles, the dealer supplied zero paperwork, we asked why the manager informed us their contact is with Motability not use they are not required to supply use with any paperwork.
Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally I get confused and often say the wrong thing.
June 28, 2023 at 12:59 pm #224546I checked the new tyre, I got 5mm on it in 3 different readings.
A new tyre should have about 8mm tread on it, which makes me question whether its a new tyre at all!
June 28, 2023 at 12:59 pm #224547I had a similar thing on my previous car, went in for its first MOT and had an advisory on the front brake pads and the dealer wanted to renew them at £400 + but Motability declined because I had a new car on order.
New car was longer than expected for delivery so my car went in for its second MOT and they instantly failed it on the brake pads so no choice but to renew them and no saving for Motability.

rigetI’d check online if they actually failed it if they did complain to VOSA, they’ll not like that.
June 28, 2023 at 5:48 pm #224565Just say the Government are looking moving MOT from 3 to 4 years for new vehicles, because of build quality and better manufactured parts. https://www.motortrader.com/motor-trader-news/automotive-news/government-looks-extending-first-mot-four-years-18-01-2023

June 29, 2023 at 10:30 am #224622No, it was a full MOT. I checked it online and it did pass.
Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!
June 29, 2023 at 10:40 am #224623Let me get this right your vehicle has only covered 16,000 miles in 3 years and this is the wear and tear, surely some of this so called wear and tear would have shown signs of deterioration at it 2 year service.
Fleet cars can cover this sort mileage in less than 12 months ?
Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally I get confused and often say the wrong thing.

rigetWe need to know if it failed not passed.
June 29, 2023 at 1:22 pm #224631As I said above it passed, checked it on the gov.uk and my Motability account
Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!
June 29, 2023 at 1:51 pm #224632
rigetYes we know it passed but did it fail before they passed it, it would say online, if it just says it passed then they never failed it and it will also say about any advisories.
June 29, 2023 at 3:43 pm #224636Had another look on the website, there’s a section underneath that expands and shows,
Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):
Nearside Front Suspension arm ball joint has slight play bottom ball joint (5.3.4 (a) (i))
Nearside Front Shock absorbers has light misting of oil (5.3.2 (b))However, there’s no mention of “O/S/F suspension lower arm defective” that’s on the inspection report the garage sent me.
Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!

PeterWhy all this fuss about a lease car ? we dont own them , the dealership has pointed out defects so why all the negativity here? Motability will choose whether to get the work done or not.

Slightly Gingerthat’s really interesting i had my advice on the 64kw Kona i’ve had since september 2021. received a nice video showing the west and tear on brakes and suspension then when I collected the car they gave me a fully itemised report with costs on. really useful information on it actually. i guess it varies with dealer. my car was serviced SG PETCH in Darlington. they are fantastic, can’t fault them.
June 30, 2023 at 1:38 pm #224714
rigetSo looks like they were pushing for work that didn’t need doing, considering it’s the first mot and the car would be under guarantee seems bonkers.

Because we are paying Motability a lot of money for a contract that includes maintenance and they are choosing not to repair the suspension, this could be dangerous if it failed on a motorway at high speed.

Its about us having confidence in the people that maintain our leased vehicles
So we can rest easy in the knowledge that we are driving a safe vehicle
June 30, 2023 at 3:14 pm #224722I have a good relationship with my dealership, but they sometimes don’t realise that I’m a Motability customer when dealing with service and other communications. Other less scrupulous dealers may well try to suggest unnecessary work assuming that it will be you paying for the repairs personally.
