My local dealer Volvo Newcastle had an EX30 for the day as it tours around the country so I thought I’d go along to see it in the flesh and share my thoughts. Bear in mind these are just my personal opinions and you should see the car for yourself if you’re interested in getting one.
The EX30 they had on show was a top of the range Twin Motor Ultra in pale blue. First impressions were that it was a really good looking car, the view from behind is really beautiful. The large wheels pushed right out to the corners of the car give it a really strong stance.
So I really liked the outside of the car, however I then got inside…
The first words that came to mind when I got into the car were basic and cheap. Hard scratchy plastics are everywhere. There is no drivers display at all. The steering wheels a funny shape. The gearstick is on the steering wheel where the windscreen wiper stalk should be ( I don’t know where the wiper controls have moved to). Everything is controlled via the touchscreen, you even have to go through the menus to find the option to open the glovebox.
It feels pretty small in the back, not much leg room. The boot is small. The main reason we wanted to go see the car was to check whether a wheelchair would fit – it doesn’t.
Overall it’s a very pretty car but I couldn’t live with that minimalistic hard plastic interior.
On the way home we called into a Skoda dealership to check out the Enyaq and I loved it but the wife is a bit of a badge snob. I’m sure I’ll wear her down.
