I really can’t wait for the prices to update on October 1st – as someone setting out on the Motability journey for the first time, I’m hoping that some of the AP’s on electric cars come down to reflect what is going on it the market place with prices slowly coming down and the flip between demand outstripping supply turning the other way. I hope I’m not disappointed on the 1st October.
I welcome any ‘seasoned’ Motability owners informing me if I’m getting way too excited or indeed have reasons to be cheerful!

Welcome to the forum, my advise is find out which dealer is giving the best Mobility deals, on the car/cars you are interested in. Test drive, choose any extras for want/need and order right away. Check that any further AP drops will be adjusted to you.
Piece of mind that you have your order in and on the system and you are covered. That’s what I did last week.

And, yes, already taking the test drives and have my ‘long list’ which, based on test drives, is quickly becoming a ‘short-er list’!

August 31, 2023 at 11:48 am #231802It was a big decision for us, going for an EV for the 1st time. (Had previously a Audi Q3, BMW X1 sport) Was really taken with the BMWi4 35 sport, they let us have it for up to 5 hrs so did roam around in it!
Ordered it in Mineral White, Blue Accents, Aluminium Interior trim, 18″ Wheels. A great AP on it of £4999 less £500 Marshalls discount, £750 Mobility contribution. A over £52,000 car. Delivery time heading into April, which suits us as that’s when our lease runs to.
Mobility as you probably know fit an Ohme charger to the house. Octopus offer the cheapest EV rates.

That way you will be excited if something comes along you like at a reasonable advance payment or not to down in the dumps if it doesn’t 🙂
The BMW i4 is a surprisingly good price and some dealers are discounting the Nissan Ariya AP by £2.5k, although its also seen a £3.5k reduction in the retail market recently.
August 31, 2023 at 12:05 pm #231804@tvs – that looks like a great choice and I know the i4 has received a lot of attention since coming onto the scheme so I bet you can’t wait until April.
Thanks for the advice – I’ve already lined Octopus up for electricity supply as my current supply aren’t as forward thinking as Octopus are(so we would have changed anyway despite getting an EV). I also have seen a contributor on this forum who also uses the low tariff to top-up his solar panel battery to get really low electricity prices across the whole day which I thought was ingenious.
Thanks again for your great advice and we’ll take the rest of this week and the weekend to sift down the options and we’ll just go for it.

August 31, 2023 at 12:16 pm #231806@kezo – that’s great advice as always kezo, thanks.
I’ll rebrand that statement to optimism then as that is probably far more realistic and besides will make my wife happy who thinks I’m like a little boy on Christmas Eve at the moment. Let’s hope I don’t just end up with a tangerine and socks again(also I realise that these are quite useful gifts as I’ve got older)!
The Ariya is definitely on our list and we have a test drive arranged for Saturday. I’ve heard great things about it although we’d prefer a AWD which that doesn’t offer at the moment so it will be good to contrast the test drive we had in the horrendously high AP’d EV6(although we did love it and it did everything that we needed).
Thanks as always for your great advice – you do seem to be one of the ‘Encyclopedia Britannicas’ around here so thanks for all of the advice and time you give.

August 31, 2023 at 2:01 pm #231826My advice would be to manage your expectations. We all live in hope that the next quarters price list will see a massive increase in choice and much reduced APs. However, we are almost always disappointed ?
Motability seem to be very much focussing on EVs, albeit at very high APs, so if that’s what you are after than you are more likely to be in luck than the rest of us ?

Roger WikcoWhilst supply is beingvstatedcas over demand for EVs, this doesn’t necceseraly equate to lower APs, as the AP is worked out (to a max AP of £8,000) to include the estimated residual value of the car,so lower demand can mean higher APs.
I can order in October for January delivery and have test driven a few that suit my needs, out of those, the Skoda Enyaq Suv and coupe are my joint first choices, with ionic 5 in second and ev6 and in third.
I didmissed the i4, as its not an ev platform, so has a long bonnet to suit ice powertrain, a transmission tunnel reducing seat abilities and the car doesn’t meet Euro NCAP 5 star rating.
I dismissed the Mustang Mach e as the ride us poor, the Aryia as with a six foot tall son,the rear seats mean his head is touching the roof.
Another wild card us the MG5, but for the quality, the ap seems high
August 31, 2023 at 4:42 pm #231860@Roger Wikco – a good point Roger but I hope you are wrong! :o)
I’m concerned what you say about the Ariya as I have a 6ft 6inch son so we need to pay particular attention to that when we test drive.
I like the Enyaq but the cost would be astronomical in add-ons to get an ‘on par’ level of equipment as you’d get in an Ariya or an EV6 and that what puts us off.
I’ve had the Mustang on a 48 hour test drive – lovely car in dual motor, AWD guise but, like you say, ride was surprisingly problematic to some of the passengers – my nephew said he felt like he’d ‘been on a rough jorney on the ferry from the Isle of Wight’! Price also is crazy in my opinion and it feels like Ford are being left behind a bit in this new EV world – let’s hope they catch up quickly with the Explorer and other models in the pipeline.
But it’s very much horses for courses as they say so good luck with whatever you choose.

August 31, 2023 at 4:59 pm #231864I didmissed the i4, as its not an ev platform,
The 2021 id4 is based on the pure electric MEB platform.
