      Being a northerner I grew up with Hollands pies, I really like the light pastry. I love a steak & kidney pudding with chips peas and gravy from the chippy.
      Well bald Foodie Guy has reviewed them both and given his opinion.

      Which do you prefer?

          My dear old Dad would say Clark’s. Shortcut pastry so powerful there is no need for a foil tray. The pride of Bristol. (Pie and Dad)

            Love steak and ale pie (made at home)  peppery thick cut chips, peas and a glass of the same ale from which the pie was made with.

            Also Clark’s pie from the chippie is a fave too, printed Clarpie on the base, mince and onion for me, other flavours available now I believe but prefer the original tbh..

              These pies are good, short crust pastry and microwavable from frozen in 4 minutes. You would think the microwave would make the pastry go soggy but it does not, they also do chicken.

                Steak and  kidney pudding from a chippie? How lucky is that! Never come across such a delight round here (Sussex) but would really like to, so long as the S&KP is a good quality. (I do make my own sometimes but am generally too lazy.)

                Pies here are local firm Turners; very good quality and wide range of fillings/sizes. Even better is local butcher who makes his own which are brilliant quality. He’ll make them with any filling you care to name in a range of sizes.

                  @tharg  I believe the microwave has revolutionised the meat pudding off sale industry, no need for a bain-marie, just ping and serve.

                  , yes those are the same pies, I am pleased to see that Clark’s have gone international.

                    Backhme we also have a local pie maker called Wrights which are generously filled and don’t go soggy when zapped.

                    @Tharg
                    Fry Bentos do suet and other puddings you just ping and serve however, last time I tried one it was like finding aneedle in a haystack to find a piece of meat!

                      @Tharg I think steak puddings in the chippy is a North-west England thing. They sit in the steamer compartment same as they gravy and mushy peas, they’re in an inch of water. You can buy frozen ones in all the supermarkets.
