ShaineHi folks, all being well we should take delivery of our XC40 on Friday. I will post pics once we have it, is there anything people want to see in particular that may help their own decisions on this car? If I can help I will try 🙂

Tony LangfordHi. Buddy
You lucky boy! Just test drove the B4 Inscription Pro Auto and what a
lovely car, I’d rate it a lot nicer than the Audi Q3 Black edition I test drove on Friday!

BrydoShaine we pick ours up on 23rd inscription pro b4 auto in white.
December 16, 2020 at 7:35 pm #132360
ShaineWe went for glacier silver and red leather. Same as bionic Rusty I think? Did he get his yet?
December 16, 2020 at 8:20 pm #132365I liked the Glacier Silver but the wife liked the White so i was out voted as her 1 vote counts as 2.
The only person who got all his work done by Friday was Robinson Crusoe.
Anything i post over three lines long please assume it is an article lol.December 16, 2020 at 10:48 pm #132381Hi folks, all being well we should take delivery of our XC40 on Friday. Hi Shaine. How exciting! I do hope that you enjoy your new car. We have the XC40 on our shortlist, but my wife is a full time wheelchair user and we need a decent size boot for the wheelchair, which needs 105cm width and 78cm depth (at around 20cm from the floor). The photos I have seen of the boot make me think that it won’t fit but in reference to your kind offer, if you are able to measure the boot and let me know I would be extremely grateful.
December 16, 2020 at 11:02 pm #132382
BrydoGlos Guy I would say almost certainly the 78cm length would fit if placed seat to door but the 105cm width side to side might be a big ask for the xc40. My wife’s wheelchair is 77cm in each direction and fits in the boot. I think you should do what we did and try your wheelchair at the dealership. I think you would like the inside of the xc40, I know your not keen on the shape, and the b4 engine is quite nippy.

Thanks Brydo. We certainly won’t make our choice until have tried for ourselves, as we have learned that if it’s a tight fit the auto tailgates can spring back open again! However, we can’t order until the end of Q1 so haven’t gone out to physically look at cars yet. That will be our job in January, assuming that we don’t go back into full lockdown again! Our first port of call in January will be BMW, as the 320i Touring is the only car that I would personally choose, but if that’s not suitable for my wife then we shall definitely check out the XC40. It’s true that I’m not keen on the styling, but I wouldn’t rule it out on that alone. I had a Black Volvo 850 for a while years ago and that looked like a hearse, but it was lovely to drive and the seats were sublime!

RikkiI’m in the market for an Inscription in January, can I ask what the delivery times currently are ?
December 17, 2020 at 3:49 pm #132433Hi Glos Guy,
I think you’ll be really tight and it’s a definite check before you order. I’ve measured the boot on mine and the depth taking into account of the lean on the back seats 20cm from the boot floor is 79cm. The width at the narrowest point of the opening is 103cm, as it is at the narrowest part of the boot floor (as the wheel arches intrude). Once you go up 20cm the width goes to 108cm. Bear in mind these aren’t exact measurements but will be pretty close. If it does fit it looks like it’ll be a squeeze ?. I hope it does as the car is really awesome.
For all of you waiting, it’s worth the wait I promise you ?.

BrydoBowly101 we get ours next week, is there anything that’s disappointed you but more importantly pleased you?

Thanks that’s very helpful. As you say, we will need to check it ourselves to be sure and I am fully expecting it to be too small for us. Thankfully the XC40 isn’t top of our list, but it remains on the shortlist until we have to rule it out for sure, as it is a quality car.
December 17, 2020 at 11:31 pm #132488Brydo,
I’ll try and avoid the things you know from excessive YouTube review watching ?.
Good – the ride on 20” wheels (even over a rutted farm track) is excellent, the seats are superbly comfortable, the headlights are so good and the auto dip works well, the digital dials are fab especially with the sat nav display in the middle, the fuel economy has been ok so far (34.5mpg over 1400 miles of mostly B roads), the stop/start system is the best I’ve ever experienced and doesn’t have the slightest hesitation in starting up again, in fact you don’t notice it either going off or on again, the remote start works well and defrosts the car ready to go, it almost looks better covered in mud and grime (well, that’s my excuse ?), the voice control works well and understands both Welsh and Scottish accents, and the hifi is really good although ours is the upgraded one.
Bad – I’m not liking the brakes very much as there’s much less feel than I’d like. You seem to go from hardly any braking to loads very abruptly. I thought it was down to them needing to bed in but we’re past that stage now. I wonder if it’s anything to do with the regenerative braking set up? Certainly the brakes in Mrs B’s XC60 have much more feel. To be clear, they stop with no issues, it’s not a safety thing just a feel thing. You really need the mudflaps fitted to avoid spectacular splatter up the side. Also, no knobs for climate control, grrrr. And why does the theatre light colour scheme only change 2 of the interior led’s!?
Unusual – When you start it up there’s no turning over of the motor. It’s just on instantly. I guess that’s the electric motor doing all the initial work but it’s quite strange at first.
As you can tell from me moaning about interior led’s I don’t have much bad to go with. Generally the car (or Arnie as he’s now called thanks to the various machine noises it makes when you turn off) is pretty awesome and I’m chuffed with the choice we made.
Roll on the collection day for all you folks still waiting!
December 18, 2020 at 12:04 am #132490
BrydoI was offered mud flaps with other bits and pieces for £260 but didn’t take it up but you think mudflaps are a good shout?
Its good to hear your very happy and eventually the brake issue will go even if it’s only you getting more and more used to them.
I’m looking forward to finding everything it can do like a kid in a sweet shop but not loving the mpg. The vast majority of our journeys are short, less than five miles, so not sure what to expect from the 2 litre petrol engine as I’ve always had manual diesels.

Brydomud flaps, rubber mats (you already get a fabric set anyway), and a boot liner, for the Price of ÂŁ286 fully fitted.

Looks great, Shaine. By any chance, do you know where it’s built as an online search has suggested somewhere in China?

ShaineThey are built in Belgium I believe, please someone correct me if I’m wrong.
December 18, 2020 at 7:56 pm #132626That’s a lovely motor! The European XC40’s are built in Belgium, and the ones destined for the American and Asian markets are built in China.
