A few weeks ago I took delivery of my new Renault Austral and so far it’s been great.
What I am concerned with is reading of so many varied problems with this model on the Austral Facebook page. So much so I’m wondering if I need to have the numbers for breakdown or recovery services handy on my mobile phone?
Does anyone else have such numbers stored ‘just in case’. I’d hate to be stuck somewhere if the Austral breaks down, and I have no means of contacting some form of help.Mother Nature don't draw straight lines, We're broken moulds in a grand design, We look a mess but we're doing fine, We're card carrying lifelong members of the Union Of Different Kinds..........

You need to install the MyRAC app on your phone.
You dont have to worry about numbers and it geolocates your position. You just raise a breakdown.
Having said that, i used it a few weeks ago and they quoted a window of 4 to 6 hours before they could get to me. I was in a carpark, not a live highway

I think you’re over thinking what could go wrong but yes, do store the Emergency numbers and download the RAC app

Brilliant, I wasn’t even aware there was one. Thanks for the help.

October 17, 2024 at 3:10 pm #291212No matter what car, age, ownership there is no point in having breakdown cover if you dont have the number to call stored somewhere. As already mentioned the MyRAC app is excellent but some might prefer to simply phone

Well yeah, but the phone number is also on the myrac app if thats the way you roll. I get it, that some cant navigate an App, but its good to have both.
The app also has all your details included though.

I’ve always been surprised that Motabilty don’t produce and issue a credit card with all relevant emergency numbers on it like the AA or RAC etc. it would be in my opinion a welcome addition to keep in my car or wallet.

I have made a laminated print out that lives in the glovebox.

Motability used to do just that. I’m going back a few years but there was a windscreen sticker that sat above the tax disc, it had a credit card inside that had insurance, breakdown, windscreen and Motability phone numbers on it. Not seen them for a few years.

October 18, 2024 at 10:03 am #291260Has anyone tried that RAC app? I downloaded it when it came out and never need to use it until last Friday. I suffered a double puncture, fortunately near home, so pressed the app and was immediately called back. However, they said this was for motorised scooter and gave me a telephone number.
I called them and as it was about 10pm, they arranged for a mobile tyre fitter to come out next day and he arrived at my house 9am, drove me to my car and I was sorted and home before 10.am.October 18, 2024 at 10:09 am #291261Edit on my earlier post.
I have just checked the site and followed the link and it shows a different icon for RAC. I down loaded at the start of things so there may have been an error on the app and I had the wrong one. Can anyone confirm they have used the app please.
October 18, 2024 at 11:31 am #291267Don’t pay much heed to those groups and just enjoy the car. I think it’s a cracker by the way.
I’ve a complete dud of an e3008 but I would not put any one of ordering. The e3008 FB has many happy drivers all loving the car and have no problems whatsoever.
You are right mind as peace of mind just incase it’s a breakdown or a puncture. Kezo’s choice is probably best. All numbers in a pouch or laminated and in the glovebox and stored in your phone.
Ps did I mention that the australs a cracker lol

Thanks for the help and reassurance Des. I do appreciate that the vast majority of the people who post on the Facebook forums are the ones experiencing problems with their cars. As you say, “peace of mind and just in case”.
