Phantom opening windows and doors on Alhambra

Hi All,  I picked this up on another thread when William and Vinalspin wrote about random opening of their windows and doors.

My son had this happen to his Alhambra,  his roof and windows opened on their own in heavy rain last week. It was several hours before he was alerted and is still drying out.

I too have an Alhambra but to date haven’t experienced this problem.

However I have done some research and apparently there is a longstanding known problem with VW group cars. There is an ECU in the drivers door, which if it gets wet causes a short and the doors and windows if electric, can open.

Hope this helps, I for one will be keeping a close eye in wet weather.

Another feather in the cap for VW !!!

      Regards, wonky

A couple of ways to try to minimise this problem,

          1. Turn off global opening or at least reduce it to just the drivers window(it will still close all windows and roof on the keyfob)

          2. Fit front wind deflectors, they seem to reduce the force with which the rain hits the door window bottom seal and therefore how much moisture gets into the inside of the door electrics.

One last thing, take your key out of pockets as I find it very easy to accidentality operate the buttons on the keyfob without my knowledge and come out to an open car.

PS, VAG Group are still taking to 5th when it comes to admitting there is even a fault let alone offering a fix for it, especially as the Alhambra is soon to be discontinued.

My Touran did this on a few occasions, which was fixed under warranty.

I had a drivers window failure a few months before and the trainee who they got to fix it didn’t fit the door card correctly allowing moisture in the the electrics.

After that it never happened again.

Seat will not admit it’s even a fault let alone take responsibility for it.
