Well finally, After missing out on the Kia Sportage due it being removed from motability list.

So After much reading and watching YouTube videos on the Peugeot 308 I booked a test drive on the 14/06/2022 with Evans Halshaw dealership in Doncaster City. Yes we are now a city.

After a good hours test drive on mixed roads, I was Highly delighted with the car. It literally has everything under the sun when it comes to tech. Might take a few days to configure it all to my liking.

I decided against the Hybrid route purely due to the cost of installing a home charger. I have to say that going for just petrol engine saves some 300 pounds in weight by not having the battery on board.

This means more boot space as well. I have to say for a 3 cylinder petrol engine, it is no slouch.

I absolutely love the interior and cock pit. The all digital dash and the oh so comfortable seats, that are heated if required as is the very small and almost rectangle steering wheel. I found very nice to use. I have gone for the metallic green paint that really stands out. The same green is used in the car fabrics.

Expected delivery due in September 2022. That is allowing for factory holidays in August.

        Update

Having joined a Peugeot forum a few days ago, I found out that there are certain items that will be missing from my build. Bit of a shock really as the dealer said nothing about these items being removed due to parts/ chip shortages. I rang the dealership and played merry hell with them for not being up front about these missing items.

The missing items are as follows:-

        pug 308 missing build items

        1. Wireless charging (no big deal really as charging is fast via cable)
        2. 3d screen ( ? )
        3. AVAS: Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System. Generates a sound when travelling at low speed, audible outside the vehicle for pedestrian safety (no big deal really)
        4. Semi-automatic parking assistance
        5. Heated windscreen  ( I real need this as no garage so for winter defrosting)
        6. Heated steering wheel ( no big deal but still would be nice for winter)
7.Electric tailgate. foot operated ( no big deal as you still have in side unlocking and key fob operation)

This wont affect you joss given your not having the hybrid or EV. However I’m sure its compulsory on electrified vehicles.

What was the dealers reply when you told them?

Yes @kezo I am aware that it impacts on EV/Hybrids hence no big deal.

I have emailed the sales manager with my concerns and included the list above. I also asked why I was not made aware of these missing items by his senior salesman, who claimed he new nothing about them!!!.

email was sent yesterday so no reply as yet.

So the 3D screen how it usually works is there’s two screens, the main driver one and hidden above it is another which projects down, hits a mirror and overlays on the main screen to create a 3D effect.

While it’s a cool feature i certainly wouldn’t stress over not having it.

Just out of interest, does the new Astra have any of these seeing as they are more or less the same car.

I would not know TBH @Elliot. Try and find an astra forum that may have that information, that is what I did.

I think I would also check the specification of the next trim down and compare the difference with the possibility of saving a few £’s

Around 300 euro’s according to some on the forum. Don’t worry I will be pushing on this matter.

Bit of an update. Just got a call from dealership to inform me that my car is scheduled for build starting 15/09/2022. However this could still change, but hopefully not.

Joss, that’s a fine choice of car and colour and if I was ordering a 308 tomorrow – that’s the model & colour I would choose. As you know, I’ve had its little brother, the 208 GT Premium 130 for just over a year now in metallic ‘Faro Yellow’ and love it to bits. The 130 engine makes the car very nippy indeed (especially in sport mode) and I still get people all the time coming up to me & asking me about the car, looking over it, etc. The small 20p-shaped ‘go-kart’ steering wheel is fantastic & I wouldn’t go back to a normal one – which all seem so big now! The 3D iCockpit is brilliant and as you say, the heated sports seats are second to none. It’s got all the bells & whistles – even voice commands – and to be honest, I couldn’t be happier. Whoever is designing Peugeot’s cars these days deserves a medal… especially the 208 and 308. They make most other mainstream car manufacturer’s models look exactly what they are; extremely boring & bland.

Hi Solent i have ordered a Faro yellow 208 130 gt premium eat 8 as just saw your post i am having park assist which is £250 is it metallic yellow i was tempted by the red or blue but when i saw the Faro it looked great with the black roof and wheel arches and also it is a free colour.

tinytim ; great choice. I’m as sure as sure can be that you’ll love the 208. I can’t fault it – the looks, the drive, the equipment… and especially that metallic Faro Yellow colour!

I didn’t need park assist so never opted for that. The only other option was a glass roof which again, I didn’t want and which is an expensive option (I think) at a grand. I see Peugeot have changed the gear-lever to a tiny switch now in the 208. Also be aware that mine came with heated seats as standard – but they’re now a £200 option on the GT Premium I believe. The heated seats are terrific in Winter by the way.

Either way, great choice & keep us updated on delivery!

I ordered the car (after a test drive) in late December 2020 and picked it up in April 2021… so 4-months.

Funnily enough, I was in my local Peugeot dealer showroom a fortnight ago & there were 3 Peugeot 208’s in the showroom & one other model. The salesman that sold me the car said they are having no problems obtaining the 208 – just other Peugeot models.

Check your new 208 for heated seats. Peugeot stopped adding them as standard even to the GT Premium model and the only way of adding them now is to pay £200.

308 gt premium SW driver here, here is what was missing from mine and some corrections for your orriginal post.

electric tailgate is only availbile on SW model so you would not of got that, I was lucky in the mine came with the wireless charge plate.

peugeots automatic parking assistance is not what you think, there definision of that is surround cameras with lines on screen :O which is shocking to say the least.

Agree with others on the 3d screen having had a cover car with it, its not a biggie really, and a very silly concept.

But current issue going on is I went to use the heated stearing wheel it said it was on but no heat, booked the car in and was informed by the tech in the 20 years he has worked for peugeot this is the first time he has come accross a car that has the button for it, but no heated wheel and a possible missbuild, in contact with peugeot now and hopefully it will get addressed as a heated steering wheel is more improtant to me that 90% of other extras, esepcially in winter..

Each to their own… but I wouldn’t say Peugeot’s 3D iCockpit is a “very silly concept”. I think it’s a terrific bit of kit which I have set to ‘Dials’. It’s very clear, easy to read with large speed gauge, and gives you all the info you need there, right in front of you – even satnav if you wish. I think it’s ultra modern & very snazzy which goes with the rest of the interior/exterior on the 208 and indeed the 308.

I mean let’s make a bud but put the hud on the dials instead of the window screen, as I have used both I think it is pointless but again that’s just my opinion

I disagree Rico parkers road tests said it was the best interior in a small car and some have said better than the VW and the i cockpit is no Gimmick it is so clear and void of sun or any glare like so many are in other makes.
