LauraHello
I’m currently over my 5 year lease and have till august to find a new car (currently in a Sportage) I was wondering because of delays in manufacturing and getting cars to dealers. Say I placed an order for a car but while waiting for new car a car more suitable comes on the scheme can I cancel and then re order a different car or not? Just holding out hope some larger suv will come back onto the scheme as finding it extremely difficult to find a car suitable for mine and my daughter who is also disabled needs

I’d say only Mb can answer that question, as each person’s case is different, it would be them that decides if you can place another order if you cancel one you’ve placed.
I guess they wouldn’t want to leave you without a car, but there are limtations to that and by cancelling an order they may deem that in a way that means you break the terms of the contract with them.
As your over the 5 years extention period, under that you could be sure that it’s ok to do it.. although personally I would not order myself and plan to cancel that order once i’ve placed it or advise anyone to do so…
They might be able to source the car quicker as you not bound by the 3 month order wait time. Which means you got another set of problems to consider.
I have had suv’s and mpvs on the scheme but last 2 have been cars and i do find all have problems for me getting in or out of but what it does is increase my options, as i cannot afford huge ap’s and car needs to meet my needs. Once i’m in that’s what really matters.
March 4, 2022 at 10:58 am #179300This is a good question and although I’ve got a car on order plus another year and a half before hitting the five year mark with the delays in deliveries and the lack of cars I think there’s going to be loads of MB customers ending up with unsuitable cars because they had to take what was left on the shelves, often the stuff no one else wants.
As rox has said only MB knows the answer to this but one way around it would be to take a car, be it an unsuitable one, and if something suitable turns up after you’ve taken delivery of your unsuitable car do an early termination and order a suitable the car. Will cost you money but its something I’m toying with should my ordered car turn out to be unsuitable.
Lets face it, no cars in showrooms to check suitability, manufactures brochures that are as helpful as chocolate tea pots and test drives becoming as rare as Hens teeth they know there’s going to be a backlash to was going on at the moment.

ChrisI’ve cancelled a order in the past just explain to the dealer and he can do it for you
March 4, 2022 at 11:34 am #179308True chris, plus as MB giving an extra new car payment of £250, so to actually do as you say would not cost anything.
Guess as well, it depends on what Laura actually needs, which she hasn’t said just that she has a sportage and looking at suvs, an mpv maybe suitable even an estate, worth checking out options to actaully see than just disregardIing them as they not suv’s imo. also what ap’s she can afford, or is comfortable paying is the biggie even if they come on the scheme. Which is why i suggest there maybe other options and is worth looking them over.
As for checking suitablity i often ask them have you a car even a different model with the same seats to sit in, for instance as the test drive is never in the trim i will get.. Even a used one. so there are ways to check if it’s suitable.
Was thinking that maybe when my lease is up, I’ll get anycar at zero ap and then wait for the £600 gcb and £250 and then leave the scheme maybe, as it’s my 1st time cancelling it would cost me £60.
Just depends what’s going on next june and ap’s and i think it might be time to start preparing for 2030 and using my allowance towards owning a car again, albeit a used one, that i can afford.

ChrisThe dealer you ordered from
March 4, 2022 at 11:41 am #179311One thing to add, is that no matter what vehicle you order, do not pay any deposit towards the AP (particularly a non-refundable one) at the time of order.
Else, if your preferred vehicle (or another suitable one) does come back onto the scheme in the interim, you may have some difficulty getting your deposit back from the original dealer when you cancel.

Indeed but Mb then have to say yes to your new order and as laura is over the 5 years, it’s an unknown factor what Mb will do or say in that situation.
If your inside the terms of the agreement or extension then it’s no issue at all. she’s been told to order by August so if after then she cancels that order what then? It also depend on the what the timeframe is. what if she doesn’t order by August as nothing is suitable or affordable. What will Mb do?
If they say 6 mnths for the car she picks and in 5 months new sportage is put on the scheme and they say 3 months that’s 8 months and into april 2023. Only Mb can advise her as to what they will allow as it’s all hypothetical.

LauraThanks all for your replies. Basically due to my needs needs to be a higher vehicle to get in big boot with electric tail end and electrical handbrake automatic my left arm doesn’t always work due to nerve damage from an aneurysm u had removed in 2019. So in theory size wise kuga rather than focus as that’s a bit low to get in and out of without help. I’m just hoping either some suv come back on cause ones on now like puma with a reasonable ap too small in boot. Anyone else found some of the newer cars seem to have a drop once got in can’t remember which car but got in and found difficult to get leg in and out over the shape if the car if that makes sense?

Rachel.KHi Laura,
I was in the same position as you last year, with similar physical needs and requirements of my next car through Motability. Up until January of this year, I had an Audi Q3 that would have been 6 years old next month. I would have been happy to keep it even longer but Motability told me that I needed to choose another car fast as they needed my car back asap or I would have to consider leaving the scheme (temporarily) as the wanted must back.
I ended up choosing a BMW X1, which is a lovely car but doesn’t have everything I needed as standard. A reverse camera and park assist would have made my life so much easier and more comfortable but wasn’t standard or able to be added due to the global chip shortage. (I’ve had a right-sided stroke and osteoarthritis in my neck, hips and knees.) I know that if I continue to struggle, I will be asking to change my car when other more suitable ones start to reappear on the scheme.
I guess all you can do is possibly swap or cancel your order and try to hang on if they’ll let you? I know that the car choice is even worse than when I ordered mine last year in August. Good luck!

Hi Rachel. Your X1 should have Park Assist, as it’s standard on all X1’s. It’s activated by pressing the P with radar button, which is next to the eco-pro button (see photo). I hadn’t heard that it had been affected by the chip shortage (the only issue we had was that we couldn’t get the Harman/kardon upgrade which, in the end, didn’t matter) so fingers crossed your car has it. We’ve got the reversing camera, but you’re right that only comes as an option (in a pack with other features that we also wanted – thankfully).
March 5, 2022 at 3:07 pm #179393Hi Laura, the new Hyundai Tuscon is a similar size to your Sportage and still on the scheme with an ap from £999
March 6, 2022 at 12:11 pm #179444
LauraThe Hyundai is over 5k for an automatic with what I need as I drive an auto petrol as my mileage is less than 2000 miles a year at the moment. The ultimate is the only one with a powered boot as I looked into that already. Be a lot cheaper if I got a manual or diesel but I can no longer drive manual due to left knee and hand problems.
RachelI feel for you. It’s like do I get an unsuitable car or just leave? I do t think the x1 is on the scheme now anyways.
only one I’d probably go for is the Peugeot 3008 I test drove one last year and found the steering wheel uncomfortable with my supports and the dip getting in and out not greatMarch 6, 2022 at 1:27 pm #179449I guess that’s something only you can decide, to stay on the scheme something may have to give and a trade off is made, if nothing is suitable and affordable with the options you need.
It might be worth looking at cars that have the electronic tail gate and parking brake, if that is something you really do need, but it limits options and in most cases will be a higher ap for some options. like for me certain cars acc is extra as part of a pack at £1500+ on top of the ap so just not viable for my budget and thats where i am coming from. I wish i could afford or jusify such ap’s even before they started going crazy. certain cars i am priced out.
I really need adaptive cruise and i use it alot so any car for me now it’s a must have.
I actually do prefer a car over how an suv handles and like you say some doors and the shape means my legs cannot swing in with causing me alot of pain, often these are cars that do not have a large bonnet and the engine / firewall is into the passeneger compartment more. So i find it less painful to get into a lower car. All cars a not easy to get in and my current car i have to make sure i do not park next to a kerb as then it’s impossible to get out, so if needed i turn the car around so i’m road side.
looked at a few options for you seems VAUXHALL GRANDLAND HATCHBACK 1.2 TURBO ULTIMATE 5DR AUTO PIP Advance Payment £1,899
has a boot capacity of 514 litres, the auto tailgate and Electronic parking brake
https://www.vauxhall.co.uk/content/dam/vauxhall/Home/brochure-library/cars/grandland/price-guide.pdf
Maybe you can ask for help in the form of a grantfrom mb, plus the gcb and now the £250 new car payment will mean you get £850 back.

RachelK@Glos Guy, Thanks for the tip regarding the Park assist, I know which button you mean. Do I need to ‘tick’ the box on the display menu to activate it? I have flicked through the user manual but thought that was the button to switch the parking sensors on and off? I’m easily confused ha ha!

You’re welcome Rachel. In order to activate Park Assist you just press the button at low speed before you pass the parking space. It will start measuring parking spaces on the passenger side, unless you put the right indicator on, in which case it will measure spaces on the drivers side. Then just follow the instructions on the iDrive screen. I don’t think you have to enable it, as such, via iDrive, but let me know if you get stuck and I’ll have a look on mine.
By the way, not everyone realises that Park Assist can get you out of parking spaces, as well as in to them. Again, just indicate the direction you are pulling out and press the button. It does all the automation stuff but in reverse. All clever stuff, especially if you get wedged in by an inconsiderate driver.

RachelAhh bless Glos Guy, you’re a star!
You explain it so well for me too, as I do get confused!?. I can’t believe I’ve been getting myself stressed out about parallel parking when the spaces are tight and I could have been using the park assist???♀️!!! I’m going to the Drs tomorrow so I’ll try it out.In fact, I don’t know how I coped before I found this forum, everyone I’ve spoken to has been so kind and helpful.
Thanks so much ???
