Ever since turkey shot down that russian jet they been getting closer ties with russia and all russia did was tell it’s people to not holiday in turkey, then there’s that gas pipe line to germany that companies now face sanctions from the usa for being part of as they want them to buy usa gas. So it’s not really a surprise turkey is now getting caught for getting closer to russia and the brick/s nations. rather than the UN.
The wef who want the big reset predict by 2030 the usa will not be the nominant super power on the planet.
Plus they the usa are in debt by $27 trillion meanwhile Russia is one of the least indebted countries in the world.
All the usa cares about is the us dollar and it being used for oil and imo they should be the ones getting sanctions and are the real terrorists (war mongerers) I do wonder what is going on while covid is happening in the middle east and the uk are the middle men the offshore brokers of every deal via the city of london.

i suppose its the time of year, but if they follow suit then they reopen about April in time to feed up the Turkey’s ready for next years festive season.
i may of read the title wrong lol.
January 6, 2021 at 11:38 am #134844Plus JS if you remember a month before Christmas the headlines were “Shortages of Turkey for Xmas because we can’t bring in worker from abroad to pluck them” and yet the freezers in Sainsbury’s, Asda and Tesco were crammed full of them and still are.
Blinking Russian again spreading false news.?

Clipped wingsTrue, Wigwam. We have bought the hugely expensive Lightening aka F35 fighter jet. The only option for Gordon Browns leaky aircraft carriers. Turkey builds parts for the F35 and has bought some. It has also bought the latest Russian SAM missile system. It is feared that there could be some technology “leakage” that would compromise the F35’s stealthiness. Caveat emptor
January 6, 2021 at 4:30 pm #134867Perhaps the new factory got a dose of bird flu?
On a more serious note, have to agree with Mr Wings. The F35 so-called Lightning plays fast and loose with a name belonging to Lockheed and English Electric. That aside it IS hideously expensive and worryingly complex for the rough environs of a carrier deck. Lift-engines used largely for takeoff and landing add a great deal of weight and an even greater deal of twiddly moving parts. A proper flat deck for the carriers and fixed wing aircraft to fly from them would have been better. But then the US would not be able to sell us worrying vectored-thrust aircraft. P1154, anyone?

Clipped wingsThanks for that. Our chaps will be happy that they remain stealthy as Russia has a long record of selling arms to pariahs. An ex navy Harrier pilot former colleague was rather critical of Gordon’s carrier order (political sop to Clydeside). To big for a VTOL fighter and too short for flat deck regular aircraft. The contracts were allegedly so punitive to cancel, we had to proceed. Allegedly, HMS Prince of Wales has spent 90 days at sea in 2 years. As have some new frigates. Leaks. Bit like my first Ford escort banger in the 70s

Clipped wingsHi Tharg,
English Electric Lightning. In the early 80 s were lined up by the Saudi airforce in gleaming rows. A wonderful sight. As with our motor industry, motorcycle, TV and ship building, our once world class aviation manufacturers have gone. Vickers Handley Page, Hawker, Bristol and BAC all built airliners in the UK. Sad and now our airlines have been decimated.
January 7, 2021 at 3:03 pm #134966Mr Wings… In the 60s, EE Lightnings used by 111sqn as Hunter replacements in RAF aerobatic team. Am old enough to have seen them at Farnborough. Eighteen RR Avons banging into reheat at the same time could knock one out of the deckchair! Beautiful aeroplane. Just missed getting a flight in one: the magazine I was going to write it up for folded!
Agree totally about the death of our industries; our criminally incompetent politicians and managers screwed up the majority, those they didn’t get were destroyed by the USA. In aviation, for example: TSR2, Supersonic Harrier, Avro Arrow (Canada suffered as well). All so we would be made to buy US products instead.

Clipped wingsHi Tharg,
My avionics/radar/ radio instructor had worked on the TSR2 developing Forward looking terrain following radar. Technology that was world leading in the 60s. 50 years on, autonomous cars have elements of their work. Not only did Wilson’s Labour Party scrap a potential world beater, but disbanded the engineering teams and destroyed blueprints. Political vandalism. Now we are at the mercy of an economy that is 80% services. I used to drive past Honda Swindon and see all those transporters ferrying cars built on double shifts. Soon to be an empty shell. My 2005 CRV was a very well made car.
January 8, 2021 at 8:55 am #135153Very true, Mr Wings. The US were desperate to stop TSR2 so they could sell us Phantoms. A book called “Project Cancelled” by Derek Wood tells that story and so many others about the dismantling of our aviation industry. An intriguing and entertaining read – Wood was a damn good writer as well as an aviation expert. Worth a look?
I suppose we should be grateful that we still have a few TSR2 airframes left. The cancellation of the Canadian Avro Arrow led to the destruction of everything. All the blueprints, machine tools AND the airframes of the prototypes which were, by political dictat, broken up into small unrecognisable bits. All so the US could sell ’em Voodoo fighters which were rubbish compared to the Mach2 plus Arrow.

Clipped wingsThanks Tharg. Will check out the book.
