Hi, I have just been awarded the “Enhanced Mobility” payment & was wondering if anyone could help me with a couple of questions please, as this is totally new to me.
I understand about the monthly payment & advanced payment, however is it possible to wait for probably another year before I choose a car on the scheme, as
the car I have at present is only 3 years old & I have just payed for an MOT & service just before I was  awarded the Mobility payments.
I understand if this is possible  I would only get 2 years use out of the scheme hoping they will extend the payments as the condition I have is progressive.
Thanks in advance for any information offered,
      Mark.
By the way this a a brilliant forum, may hours of reading to come going back through the posts.

Hi Mark. Welcome. My understanding is that you can switch from the cash benefit to the car scheme at any time, provided you have at least 12 months future entitlement to mobility higher rate.

I’m relatively new to the scheme also, and no doubt others with more knowledge or experience will correct me if I’m wrong.

          Hello and welcome,

Yes, you are free to order whenever you like. The only stipulation is that you must have a minimum of 12 months award of the benefit/allowance that funds the scheme vehicle at the time you apply for the vehicle.

You then keep it for the 3yr duration of the lease normally. Paid for by your benefit/allowance.

If your allowance/benefit is not renewed though, Motability will take back the vehicle. See this page from their website for details:

Hi, marki, good question, but it all depends on your personal and financial circumstances, are you still working, ect, as you have a relatively new car, and are you confident on your allowance being renewed, and you have a full understanding on how pip is awarded, it’s not always based on what condition you have.

Does your existing car suit you? If which case you can get a tax refund, and enjoy your car, and have a nice holiday on the allowance.

Always be mindful, if going on the motobility scheme. If you lost your allowance, you will have to return the car.

If you don’t like your current car, can you trade it in for something you want, convertible, suv, sports or luxury, new or used, and use the allowance to contributing to fund it, and it’s yours to keep.

If you go on the motobility scheme, you can jump in at any time, as long as you have 12 months left, imho, I wouldn’t run your allowance down, start looking and deciding now, make a shortlist, and book test drives, APs are going up, and lead times for new cars will get longer, some are six months already.

            Good luck. Enjoy.

Thank you for all your help, much appreciated. At this point in time I  am happy with the car I own, it is a top of the range mode with only 11,000 miles on the clock. Perhaps in another 12 months I will change it. As a newbie to all of this,, I’m sure I will need further assistance in the future. I have got an awful lot of reading on this forum to catch up on. Once again Thanks,

              Mark.
