Much improved search within Motability. There’s now only one car for each model, options are show as a quantity but you don’t have 7 different versions of the same car, so your search results will be much, much easier to look through.
The process of searching will take a bit of getting used to but to be able to exclude unwanted fuel types from the front page is much better now that people will be exclusively looking for hybrids or electric or looking to exclude them.
The only thing I prefer from the old version is that the filters were shown beside the search results. That made changing your search criteria much easier.
Congrats to those involved!!

It will be years before I use the search menu again but having a quick look at the car I ordered last and have now the search looks a lot cleaner to me also noticed that along with how many litres of milk I can get in the boot it also tells me how long/deep the boot is.
Boot length is one of the first things I look for after automatic gears so most welcome and hope this applies to other cars too, not just the one I happened to look at.
March 22, 2023 at 3:56 pm #216066It’s definitely better, but still far from perfect. I like the fact that search results bundle various models of each make of car together. It also looks fresher and more modern.
Sadly, car classifications remain inaccurate. Small SUVs are still categorised as large SUVs.
Of the cars I checked, only litres was showing in boot space, not dimensions (which, as ChrisK says, would be far more useful).
The search function remains flawed. I selected manufacturers that I was interested first, yet when I next filtered models the Tonale was missing, even though I had ticked Alfa Romeo in the manufacturer column.
It would also be good to have a ‘delete’ option for the models of car that come up in results, to help narrow the search results.
As I say, better, but probably gone from 5/10 to 7/10. Very easy fixes could get it to at least 9/10.
March 22, 2023 at 6:07 pm #216096in my opinion it needs a complete overall from the ground up!
At the very least it should provide:
Sill height to ground
Sill height to floor
Door width and opening angle
Seat height and seated headroom
Boot Lengh x width x height and boot lip height.
My current vehicle which is classed as a large SUV? shows most of the dimmensions however, it gives boot capacity in bottles of whisky! I moved on to the Nissan Qashqui which was also classed as a large SUV? but, it only gave boot litres and that both vehicles had 5 seats.
Surely if Motibilty don’t know this information or its not availalable on RIDC, it wouldn’t be too dificult to request the vehicle schematic drawing or even send a staff member out to attain the measurements after all they are paid enough. That way it would save me going out with my yard stick!
March 22, 2023 at 6:58 pm #216104It’s better, don’t need to go through two pages of Ford Focus anymore lol.
Car History:
Ford Fiesta
Vauxhall Astra Mk6
Mazda 3
BMW 2 Series Coupe
Mercedes A Class
Vauxhall Astra Mk8 (Lease ended early)

Adrian_H1 thing that has gotten worse from the old to the new is that all filters behave as if you can only select 1 option despite using control types which are intended to be used for multiple selection. For example, the boot size filter presents a number of tick boxes suggesting that you can filter resutls to show cars which can hold 3-4 cases and also those that can hold 5 cases. As soon as you select any option though the filter closes and results are updated. If you return to the filter and tick the other box results are updated based on the new selection only, not both. the checkboxes should allow you to select multiple options but they are behaving like radio buttons and allowing you to choose 1 only. I do like the fact that you see only 1 result per model. I don’t like that the max results per page is fixed at 10. Even if you end up with 11 results you can’t have them all on 1 page.
March 22, 2023 at 9:25 pm #216120the new search is better but it makes it even scarier when you put in your preferences in my case,
wpms,£1500 ap max, auto, electric, petrol, petrol hybrid, large suv small suv. it drops from the daily total to 29 models. that choice goes down when you remove the faux suv’s like the puma, taigo etc that arent very high and in fact not much higher than a normal salloon.
it still lists other tallish cars as medium saloons. so they still dont appear.
so the homework gets a could do better from me.lol
March 27, 2023 at 11:40 am #216558Now the dust has settled on the new Search I have noticed a couple of things:
1. I can’t seem to find a ‘filter’ for all wheel drive vehicles.
2. I have a couple of old iPads which are not able to update past iOS 12. These are not able to use the search tool at all (on safari).
(Devices are iPhone 5S, iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, the original iPad Air, the iPad mini 2 and iPad mini 3, and the 6th-generation iPod Touch)
March 27, 2023 at 12:50 pm #216565My turn to gripe….
They should also have revamped the desired AP value, the lower values are all ok, but then, over £2000 its everything else & there are a lot of cars over £2000 on the scheme , wouldn’t be too hard to set a £3000, £4000 etc limit, the WAV page goes all the way to £25000.
In life, it's not who you know that's important, it's how your wife found out.

ldc7080i think a step in the right direction although i still would like to see more control. the AP filter has been out of date for so long. £2000+ applies to so many cars now i think it should have a £2000 – 2500 and so on till maybe £4000 + and then leave that as one variable.
the other thing i would like to see is something like a “added in the last 7 days” that way you wouldnt need to see the matrix to know what was knew to the scheme.
March 27, 2023 at 7:44 pm #216621Marginally better. But considering how atrocious the old one was that’s not much really, is it?

MaccaGotta say, having played with this new search tool for a few days now, I find it frustrating.
I can get right down to homing in on a particular car using Make and Model, and when I choose to move to the last screen to see the detail, it tells me there’s nothing there.
Then if I start a new search and instead use different filters, i.e. Large SUV, and Automatic I find what I want ??♂️
Teething issues for sure, and I personally think taking the 4wd filter away is a mistake.
Surely this tool should have been fully tested before launch ?

Totally agree, taking away the 4wd filter makes searching really difficult.
