Just seen that the new Polestar 4 had no rear window, just a camera which projects an image into the cabin!

I think things are getting a bit silly now with technology being used for technology sake!

Why would you have no rear window?

No rear wiper, no rear window – whatever next!

I agree, things are beginning to get silly.

It probably save a lot of weight. Certainly a lot of work and expense fitting the glass.

True @Jojoe and if youve drove a van you don’t need a back window of a fancy camera lol.

However, I do wonder, what manufacturers are thinking when trying to reinvent the wheel on your typical family car…

What happens should this technology it fail – I imagine most people will be lost lol

The image will have to be displayed on a screen somewhere in the car so, is it on the main infotainment screen? In which case it will take the place of other vital information! Or, if its a separate screen mounted somewhere then it’s another hinderence to driving. The Ionic 5 already has 2 screens on the doors for the door cameras, imagine a 3rd to keep you busy!

What’s wrong with a glance in a mirror, door or rear view! It doesn’t make sense to me?

Probably another step to driverless cars! Where’s the fun in that!

No requirement for rear window heater

Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally I get confused and often say the wrong thing.

The Nissan Ariya has a rear view camera, its screen is the rear view mirror which is switchable to normal and camera. The camera is fitted at the top of the tailgate.

It does take a bit of getting used to but I use it all the time now, it’s especially useful when the boot is full or like me you have large mad dog who can’t keep still and loves sitting up and watching the the cars behind.

yeah id think they would use rear mirror as a screen attached to the rear camera. the hyundai kona has a button to show rear camera view when going forwards.  its not great tho

It’s only a matter of time before other manufacturers follow.

Don’t think Volvo think it’s up to much as they are ditching their part ownership of Polestar.

I assume you mean false. Volvo have announced they are  to stop funding Polestar and hand over control to Geely in China ??
