The Kia Soul EV model updates swap the old First Edition for the new Maxx model with 280-mile range unchanged

Looked at the spec on the website and the only difference i can see over my first edition are the 2 extra colours and the new design badge. I think in the future we may see a lower spec with smaller battery introduced hence the name Maxx.

Would still opt for the Neptune Blue though.

They dropped the electric drivers seat – now just electric lumbar, the heat pump and the HUD.

Neptune Blue for the WIN…as Tesla Bjorn would say.

Also notice the charging cables are down as an optional extra, seems a bit mean as i got both types free.

Not so bothered about the HUD as i never use it and the electric seat as only been used once but the heat pump is a great loss in winter times.

Apologies to anyone who has a Kia Soul (Stuart), but that IMHO is not a pretty car . However, it is refreshing to see a car manufacturer daring to be different, so well done Kia!??

I’m showing my age now, but all cars seem to look the same (I understand why), but style seems to be limited to the shape of a grill (pointless for an EV) and the window frames…?

                Kind regards
                Andy

No need to apologise, if we were all the same then the world would be a really boring place indeed.

Andy, I would say 95% of modern cars are not pretty and very few in the affordable category, aimed at mere mortals. Many are striking, but pretty, no. The push for SUV’s and crossovers has means that any style is hampered from scratch as you start off with a brick and chisel something out of that. Its no wonder that 20 inch wheels is now considered essential on such heavy designs. The state of car design is dreadful.

However within those parameters, like you, I applaud Kia’s bravado in doing something different. Unlike you, I am guessing, I would be happy to be seen in one. especially if its loaded, has a good range and is a low AP on Motability. It’s my number one on the shortlist for ordering in January.

                      @Stuart??

@Psuader if the car is fully loaded, has a 300 mile range and zero AP, then even I could be persuaded!??

Our next car, after the XC40 hybrid (whenever we finally get it) will be a full EV. The EV will need to have a realistic 300 mile range (not WLTP) and this will be easily achievable, looking at the current rate of progress…

                      Kind regards
                      Andy

Yes another miserable-looking car.  The incipient ‘EV Age’ has given car designers a clean slate to create something new and beautiful, and all they can come up with is variations on . . . that.  Why?

Absolutely right Georgie, but I know why. Unlike us rebels, the vast majority of the British public is very conservative- with a small c- and there’s a risk that something radical will frighten them off. And you only have to see the sales of the BMW i3 to see what happens when they go radical. That design dates back to 2013 and still looks like an alien transporter and just capture the attention of the buying public.

It also why EV’s have grilles even though they have no purpose!

Looks like I have missed the boat. Went for a test drive and was impressed. The problem is no 1st editions in neptune blue. Wife not keen on white. Don’t want to order the maxx as this has been downgraded. Called dealers from North and south all sold.could wait and see what comes on the scheme in the next two quarters. But fear the likes of ioniq etc will have silly AP’s like the VWid4 if they come on.also doubt they will be fully loaded as the soul is.
