Thought I’d join to share my most recent experience,
Coming up towards the end of my current lease, a Tiguan Allspice diesel, I started to vaguely look at cars at the end of March. Reorder date was 27th March. I held out til Q2 to see if anything came back on that really took my interest but as expected it was all much of a muchness.
I had already decided I wanted to go electric after having an ID3 for a day last year so I set about visiting some dealers to work through a rough shortlist. The ID3 would have been top if it was on the scheme, but alas I had to move on and keep looking.
Kia – Soul EV.
Quite liked the exterior looks, not quite so nice inside but more importantly my 3 closest dealers are all quite far away. After struggling to pin down test drives etc and not being able to catch the right person at the right time I kind of gave up.
Next up was Nissan and Vauxhall, Leaf and Mokka respectively.
The lady I dealt with in Nissan was incredibly helpful, couldn’t do more to assist, but I just didn’t like the car. It was one I went to rule out and did so quite quickly.
Quite liked the Mokka and was very keen to book in for a test drive. Had to deal with somebody else who was busy so got his card. After a couple of weeks of no replies to emails or call backs I gave up and tried another Vauxhall dealer. They did at least get in touch and offer a test drive but very awkward about it. Decided this was getting tricky to pin down with easter etc and trying to fit in test drives with work and their availability was a little awkward.
All of the above dealers were also quoting long lead times for new orders.
During the easter weekend, whilst on the verge of giving up I happened to pop by Vospers in Plymouth who have a few marques under one roof so to speak.
Had a look at the Peugeot e2008 which I had previously kind of overlooked. Really liked it and 2 days later we were in a test drive. Took the car for 3 hours and really liked it.
Got down to discussing specs and lead times. Steph at Vospers found me a GT Spec (second from top) already built and on way to the UK, finished in pearl white which was also one of my colour preferences on these. As it was already built she said it should have everything but like most manufacturers some spec can be missing. They wouldn’t really know until it landed.
So 2 weeks after almost giving up, today I picked up my e2008 GT with everything exactly as it should be.
The 3d display, heated seats, camera, wireless charging etc is all there. The 3d display is very impressive.
My home charger has been scheduled and I am just waiting on an install date which should be in the next couple of weeks! I am currently using a portable or ‘Granny Charger” to keep me going and will be handy to keep in the car.
Credit to MB for cracking on with getting the ball rolling. Straight after easter the order was confirmed, the charging company had been in touch and survey done.
At the point of order I managed to negotiate myself a no fee early termination as I wasn’t meant to renew until June but after explaining the issues with availability etc MB waived this charge (Usually £250)
With the GCB, new car order bonus and pro rata refund of the AP from my Tiguan the AP on the Peugeot has been reduced considerably. Factor in the Easee home charger and installation and the whole deal is a no brainer.
So far I love the car, the technology and cheaper motoring.
The forum has been a great help as I have been reading up on peoples experiences and gathering info.
I feel lucky to have been able to get this sorted so quickly and relatively hassle free. I do feel for the people that have been waiting months and missing spec, delays, etc.
Hang on in there and Stay Safe 😉
