Hello, I am wondering wether motability will add more electric cars onto the scheme, I know there is a shortage of chips, problems with production but in the next year do you see more electric cars showing up?

Im also wondering wether we will see more electric cars for under 25’s, right now all we can get is a fiat 500. Im not asking for a tesla or anything stupid but most electric cars have over 120bhp and are over the insurance group. I have wondered wether they may up this limit for electric cars only as something like a e208 has 130bhp and is over group 25.  A fiat 500 or a e-up! isnt very suitable for alot of people inluding myself so I would like to here your opinions.

My crystal ball say’s Motability don’t work at speed so maybe it will take some time to realize the scheme needs to change in relation to EV’s and under 25’s.

I also don’t think apart from a few small city cars having a bhp below 120hp as an EV, and as you have rightfully said they aren’t suitable for everyone especially on the scheme. Unfortunately larger EV’s will a higher bhp by design.

It maybe for the time being you will need to look at an ICE vehicle on the scheme.

The choice of anything for the under 25’s is pathetic and will continue to be until they change the ridiculous caps.

The choice for over 25’s isn’t exactly great either and as you say some of the AP’s are ridiculous.

LOL I know what you mean @ajn. Unfortunately there isn’t much of an option on the scheme at the moment :~

Even looking at new release EVs for the next year, there’s nothing suitably ‘low’ powered.  It seems the trend is for huge batteries to power massive motors.  The problem that’s currently being addressed is towing, several cars are now rear/4 wheel drive so that they can pull caravans/trailers.  I’m not sure the manufacturers have recognised a need for something not stupidly small but also not properly rapid.  Astra sized with 100ish BHP in electric form will have enough pull to get around town and up to reasonable motorway speeds without being a problem but doesn’t yet seem to have a big enough demand recognised…
